I really liked it. Wish I had played it sooner.

So-so architecture (at least first half) but plenty of fun to be had.

Not as good a pe4_dt2 but still nice. Really far from pe4_dt2 in looks, but the gameplay is there. And it still looks decent. Hey, some parts do look good. Recommended!

It's good, all the levels are fun to play. The architecture is somewhat bland in the first half (which is reasonable as these are some of the author's first levels), but improves in the second half. Overall worth playing even though many of Paul's later works (DT II and III included) are better.

Highly recommend you play this with "Respawning monsters"! it certainly makes up for the lack of challenge in most parts and adds a sweet degree of tension, forcing you to adopt a speedy style of play, especially on the secret lvl ;) Reasonably good oldschool E4! - 4/5

I could not decide whether to give this a 4 or 5, but I had to choose 4 because DT2 is better and DT3 is almost uncomparably better (my favorite indivisual Doom I episode of all time). Still, well worth playing, since gameplay is still lots of fun and looks are at least decent, if not good. I certainly like this more than the original E4, which was not bad on its own anyway.

I don't get wtf some of you guys are on about, it's the gameplay that matters, and in terms of gameplay this is an instant 5/5. Kicks the shit out of every single complex modern script driven architecture wanking wad, especially overrated ones such as Thunder peak.

Decent UD episode, nothing more nothing less. Bland stretches, and the ammo/health is incredibly surplussed, which makes it a really easy playthrough. On the other hand, the traps are alright and it's pretty fun to play. Just, well... pretty average, I think. Paul has much better work. -Snakes

While these levels are by no means ugly, they are rather square and undetailed. However, they're a lot of fun to play. Recommended for the times when you just want Doom action without looking at pretty scenery.

A bit on the arcadey side, this one, unlike original E4 or PE4_DT2 (which was much heavier but also simple in design). It plays fast, and not too complicated. Detail is simple too. 3/5

good and simply, but often offers too much ammo for serious challenge. ****

A high positive, even if the WAD uses level names from Final DooM. Perfect! 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
