New here, offering playtesting

Hullo.

I'm Alex, and I'm bad at doom. 

I recently did some playtesting/general playing with Lord Entropy's new WAD and I had a good time.

Such a good time I recorded myself, and I've decided to do this for others if interested?

Take a look below.

First recorded run, rage quit.

Second, to the end in a horrendous grind.

I've fixed that whole mic crackling issue. It's fine now. Sorry about that.

I'm bad at Dume, don't let that put you off.

Since this is a playtesting thread, I actually have a vanilla mapset I'm working on that I would like to have multiple views on.

I'm making it for NaNoWADMo, all info is in the TXT file included.

DEHACKED included in the wad, freelook optional but not recommended. Crouching and jumping may break the maps.

How was the titlepic?

Also, the maps may be a bit too dark if you're using a non-software renderer.

I've got a few released maps I'd love feedback on as I'm planning to revisit at least some of them.

Got a healthy que forming here! I will get to each of you in the order the requests come in, but making these takes a little time so I ask only for patience, especially slotting it into the rest of my life!

Paf I'm planning on doing at least a couple more for you this weekend.

Second Level up here

For reasons that will become obvious this one took longer to make than the others will, but I've already got 3 and 32 recorded from this same run (did them all together, with the exception of the one I linked today.) So I'll get lvl3 up tomorrow hopefully then do 4 and get 32 up after, Ideally want them to be in the right order.

You're in this one @Paf Hope you don't mind!

One of the reasons you couldn't see anything was the sector light mode you had selected, the second reason was the renderer, which I'm assuming is OpenGL(?), I didn't know this was a problem as I only tested in Vanilla ports, and GZDoom with the vanilla sector light mode. Sorry for that.

The build engine sector light model usually makes it too dark.

No Worries at all man, I get I'm beta testing here I don't expect everything to be right. In fact, if it helped you find something then it seems ideal! Largely the point, I'm just doing the editing for fun, I'm grateful for what I hope to be a steady stream of maps to do it with! Plus means I got to have some fun with that sequence :D

They are my output for the last 18 months or so over lockdown. The earlier ones (Island Fortress and Belial's Ruin in particular) were very much me learning - there may well be ACS debug prints still there, so apologies for that - I do plan on revisiting and tidying up at some point after I finish my current map. 

 

They are all built for GZDoom (4.4) and are in DiHF (because I use Eureka and that currently does not support UDMF) and I made them with freelook in mind, but no crouch or jump please. 

 

I hope you have fun with these...

If you'd be interested in some New Fangled ZDoom filled maps. I created an Ultimate Doom episode (episode 6) for K8Vavoom (or GZDoom) 

It's called the Withered Dimension, it was an aggressive set of maps designed around Ultimate Dooms Limited Monster variety.

Try it out some time if you're looking for new material to play.

Vulkan! Pretty sure I've got it working right with hardware now, I can see myself using your map2 for lighting calibration in the future (trying new settigns) :D Thanks for the assist on it.

If you can beat map 30 on this wad (use the warp cheat during a level by typing idclev30 to get to it) you are not bad at doom anymore.

@Paf Level 9 edited, that's a big one, 40 mins after two fast forward sections. Delay is that my internet is kind of a joke so I need to go to a buddies to upload anything over about 20 mins. May get 32 up before 9 at this rate. But it's incoming, hopefully tomorrow.

FYI youtube has a frame advance so if for any reason you want to watch me fail over and over, then the  < and > keys during playback will let you watch it relatively normally.
