Bridgeburner56 Posted July 6, 2022 Hordamex 1.0 is out! Get it here! https://www.dropbox.com/s/0dfr1ztey74m75n/hordamex.zip?dl=0 You'll need the multiplayer source port Odamex 10.2 or above to run it as expected, obtainable here: https://odamex.net/ You can play any of the maps in single-player or with friends online! Keep an eye out for Monday Night Horde that kicks off every Monday evening at 8:00pm EST in the Odamex discord! There are also standing Horde servers that are up and running 24/7 that run various map packs, Hordamex included! Check out the detailed post by our stalwart project lead @Xenaero for more infohttps://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/2560267Original Announcement It's time for a brand new type of community speedmapping project! The Hordes of Odamex, or HORDAMEX for short, is a project aimed at the new Horde survival co-op game mode on the multiplayer-enabled Source Port Odamex! Who's involved? The project is being head up by @Xenaero, a long-time competitive player and community veteran on the multiplayer side of Classic Doom. Hosting the project in their community is @Bridgeburner56, who needs little introduction. Leading testing sessions will be @Kaapeli47 of Insanity Deathmatch fame. The maestro @Jimmy will be bringing in his vast experience with running successful community projects and mapping up a storm!@killingblair of Doom Central will be providing servers for playtesting and the event proper, without which you can't play (kinda important). And last but most certainly not least, you! How does Horde work?! • Players spawn in and a round begins. You and your allies are besieged by monster waves on all sides! • Pick up Supply Caches that are scattered throughout the map to gain weapons, ammo, and health! • Monster waves are dynamic, drawing from a configurable text lump, from which waves are picked at random! • Waves will increase in difficulty as the map goes on, however, once enough monsters in the wave have been felled... • ...An empowered boss monster(s) appears! Eliminate the pain-resistant, fast-moving boss enemies in order to advance the round! • Allies who get trashed are brought back to life in the next wave, or, if the horde wins, the map is over! • You can also play Horde in single-player! Show me more! I thought you'd never ask! Tell me about the rules! • MBF21 compatibility, with Boom and ZDoom(Doom in Hexen) formats allowed. Bear in mind that Odamex supports limited ACS, as it inherits from an early-2000s ZDoom codebase! UDB Configs are included after the Discord jump! • OTEX v1.1 going to be the resource pack used for this project! Get the WAD version here: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/graphics/otex_1_1 • Custom midis and skies are allowed, but as for custom textures, that's what we got OTEX for! • The only Things placed for gameplay are the spawners located in the Odamex configs, a Player 1 Start, and Deathmatch Starts for online play! That's it! • You don't need to worry about the wave makeup itself, that's being handled by Xen and co, all you gotta do is build a map or two! Is there a timeframe for this event? Timeline is as follows: • July 10 - July 24: Mapping period. Kicking off with a special speedmapping session to get the juices flowing (details tbc) • July 24 - August 7: Beta testing and fine tuning • August 20 (TBC): Live showcase event at (hopefully) QuakeCon What makes a good Horde map? • Think about an arena for both large fights and to give the Wave Boss room to spawn in. This can be a centerpiece of a map, or you can have multiple large outside areas for multiple Boss spawns! • Allow room in connecting hallways or adjacent rooms to the Boss Spawn for the Wave Bosses to move around and pursue the player. There's something terrifying about a Wave Boss chasing you down. • As mentioned earlier, some of the best Horde maps so far gameplay-wise follow open flows, to both allow player access, and to also trap themselves as the monsters close the gap from all sides. Make your players think on their feet, and let them pick their options! • Powerup spawns are great in high risk areas, while Supply Cache spawns are good in defensible sectors, or in common routes through the map. You want players to pick these up to continue the fight, but sprinkle some Supple Caches in corners to let them trap themselves if they get too greedy! • Try setting monster spawners to "Ambush" to hide the teleport fog and noise! Where do I go from here? • This is being hosted by The Hellforge so first up you'll need to jump in: https://discord.gg/hellforge • Upon joining, let one of the staff of the event know you joined and are interested in participating for HORDAMEX! • Lastly, you'll need the source port! Download Odamex here: https://odamex.net/ and if you opt for the installer instead of the archive installation, remember where you put it! You'll need to use Doom Explorer or find the Odalaunch executable to join the servers for online playtesting sessions! There will be plenty of people on hand to help. 64 Quote Share this post Link to post

Xenaero Posted July 6, 2022 Love what people have done even so far! We'll be getting some more resources together as we approach the July 10th mapping starting line! While mapping officially begins then, we've already had some eager submissions for playtesting, check out what we have from @Velvetic, @RiviTheWarlock, @Alfredo so far! If this is what they slapped together in the early days, think about what you can do! Let us know if you have any questions about this format or even better, jump in the Hellforge discord and join the mayhem! We'll be having online playtesting where we run through all the submissions as we hit the weekends coming up! Are you going to be the player who beats the wave or are you going to be one of the corpses on the ground? Let's rock. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

From how my single player sessions have been going, almost definitely a corpse! Still very much looking forward to all this though 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
RastaManGames Posted July 6, 2022 (edited) Is there something like new Odamex config for Ultimate Doom Builder exist? D: UPD: It exists in the #hordamex-rules channel of Discord server. Well, I want to try out to participate, if you can accept a mapper with not that big skill. Edited July 6, 2022 by RastaManGames 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bridgeburner56 Posted July 8, 2022 Alrighty then we will be kicking this off formally tomorrow with a 3 hour speedmapping session in the Hellforge Nothing quite like a frenzied state of panic to get those mapping juices flowing. The start time is July 10th 9:00am GMT+12 and will be hosted in the Hellforge (link in OP). This will trigger the 2 week dedicated mapping period that everyone has to make as many maps as they want. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bridgeburner56 Posted July 9, 2022 Speedmapping starts now! People can still sign up over the next 2 weeks but this is the official start to the mapping period.https://www.twitch.tv/bridgeburner56 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rabbid Posted July 9, 2022 I will probably play this when its done XD 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Major Arlene Posted July 14, 2022 I'd like to share progress on my two submissions for this project- it's been a very easy and fun format to map for in a speed/short-form mapping setting and echo that if you guys ever wanted to get into multiplayer mapping (or even as your first map!) this is a good project to do it on. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xenaero Posted July 14, 2022 But wait, that's not all! We're not even done with the first week of the mapping period, and there's been even more COOL STUFF™, this time showcasing maps by @electricbrass, @RonnieJamesDiner, and @RastaManGames Feast your eyes upon only a handful of maps - and a preview of a couple custom monsters - of the ones that we'll be playtesting this weekend. If you're interested in giving Odamex and its accompanying Horde Mode a try, keep an eye out on the server listing around 5PM EST this Saturday! And of course, if you want some mayhem to go along with it, jump in the Hellforge where there will be a public voice channel as everyone cheers on the last marines left standing against the Horde! While you're there, maybe you'd want to throw in a map or two while we still have some time left... ;) 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bridgeburner56 Posted July 14, 2022 So somehow we have 17 maps submitted already and we're not even halfway through the mapping period. Still plenty of time for anyone and everyone who wants to join up and submit something too :D Our first major online playtesting session will be this weekend. Every map that is ready to go will be added to the pool. Gonna be a blast! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Bridgeburner56 Posted July 15, 2022 As we close in on the first big group play test session I have managed to get my map in a playable state. Pretty much done with the exception of a bit of detailing. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xenaero Posted July 16, 2022 It's time for the first big Hordamex playtest, just one week after we opened the doors for mappers to submit maps and maps-in-progress! We'll be running an online playtest here starting in a few minutes with the crew from the Hellforge, running through as many of the twenty-eight maps as we can! That's right, twenty-eight maps have already been submitted in the short time the project has been live! If you don't have Odamex, you can download the source port here: https://odamex.net/ I always recommend Doom Explorer as a general launcher and server browser for any of the multiplayer ports, you can find it here: http://doomutils.ucoz.com/ As for the server details... • Server name should be [WDL] doomleague.org - Hordamex Playtest • Alternatively, you can launch Odamex, pop open the console, and type in or paste the following: connect 74.91.112.85:10314 Maps will automagically download through the client! Let's rock. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Xenaero Posted July 17, 2022 We had a stellar playtest session, and generated a lot of constructive feedback as we head into week two of the project! Still time for new additions, and plenty of time for any tweaks as we move forward! 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

Xenaero Posted August 15, 2022 (edited) Hey all! It's been a little quiet in the thread over the past month and that may seem like the project... just hasn't had a whole lot going on. Not even close. We have over fifty maps, with over fifty custom monsters, and over forty unique monster wave definitions (Wow!) for the upcoming Release Candidate 1 release as of this writing, with potentially more maps in the works for a final release in a few weeks! We're pushing the boundaries of what DEHEXTRA can do, and thanks to the help of some phenomenal mapping talent, delivering a high-octane Horde Mode experience! What mapping talent, you ask? Allow me to list this crew of badasses: MAP01 "Triage At Dawn" by @RonnieJamesDiner MAP02 "Siberian Outpost" by @RastaManGames MAP03 "Cool Map!" by @Mik57 aka "Korzodin" MAP04 "The Cauldron Forge" by @exl MAP05 "Terror in Aisle Five" by @ginc MAP06 "Bloodbath and Beyond" by @Velvetic MAP07 "Red Node Failure" by @StormCatcher.77 MAP08 "Overgrowth Pt II" by @Major Arlene MAP09 "Unholy Rapture" by @RottKing MAP10 "Damned Labs" by @RastaManGames MAP11 "Ruined Waters" by @exl MAP12 "Aquifever" by @boris MAP13 "Dimensional Leak" by @electricbrass MAP14 "Hydrophelia" by @Alfredo and @Velvetic MAP15 "Feuermeer" by @RiviTheWarlock MAP16 "Doomed Disco" by @RastaManGames MAP17 "Trapped in Another Gothic Hellscape" by @KeaganDunn MAP18 "Chacal" by @dac MAP19 "Chaos Reactor" by @ProverbialGamer MAP20 "Sand Storm Pyramid" by @SkeletronMK666, @Insane_Gazebo, and @Liberation MAP21 "Rip and Teal" by @Remmirath MAP22 "Nightlife and Death" by @Velvetic MAP23 "Altars of Defilement" by @Kaapeli47 and @ShakarAtar MAP24 "Corruption Factory" by @big smoke MAP25 "Golden Shower" by @Worriedidiot MAP26 "Vision Therapy" by @Major Arlene MAP27 "Overworking" by @RastaManGames MAP28 "Arctic Onslaught" by @Guardsoul MAP29 "Sephirot" by @Alfredo MAP30 "Castle Raiders" by @DJVCardMaster aka "DJV" MAP31 "The Singularity's Servant" by @Insane_Gazebo MAP32 "A Demesne, Cocooned" by @Insane_Gazebo MAP33 "Losing Battle" by @Liberation MAP34 "The Endless Hunt" by @exl MAP35 "Erebus Generator" by @Jaccident MAP36 "District #69" by @RastaManGames MAP37 "Fearrous" by @Bridgeburner56 MAP38 "Of the Old Sand Cult, Darude" by @Major Arlene MAP39 "The Writhing Netch" by @OldManHan MAP40 "Do It For The Vine" by @Velvetic MAP41 "Nine Layers of Hell" by @ShakarAtar MAP42 "Atomic Winter" by @ProverbialGamer MAP43 "Blight at the Museum" by @electricbrass MAP44 "Arena of the Fallen" by @Slayer Moon and @Major Arlene MAP45 "Infected Machine" by @RastaManGames MAP46 "Cerebral Bore" by @SkeletronMK666 and @Major Arlene MAP47 "Fetid Swamp" by @exl MAP48 "The Grand Palace of Macross" by @Jimmy and @Major Arlene MAP49 "Chertograd" by @Thanatos13official and @Major Arlene MAP50 "Elden Teal" by @Remmirath MAP51 "Hanger 34" by @Philnemba And that's not all! There's a major announcement to also throw in here: There's something classic coming to QuakeCon 2022! I'm talkin' Classic Doom! I'm running a Horde Mode public event using the multiplayer source port Odamex, including an hourlong livestream block on the QuakeCon Community Twitch. We've been hard at work the last couple months coordinating the Hordes of Odamex project with the Hellforge community, so if you like classic Doom co-op mayhem, it's coming your way next weekend at the QuakeCon discord, and open for anyone to join! The servers will be up all weekend starting Thursday night, and the live stream event on the QuakeCon Community twitch will happen at 12:00 PM CST on Saturday, August 20th! Even got a little event trailer for you, showing off flashes of maps from @exl, @StormCatcher.77, and a map combined from the efforts of from @Velvetic and @Alfredo, before some gameplay on @RonnieJamesDiner's Triage At Dawn: Stay tuned for an official link to Hordamex RC1! Working on the finishing touches as we speak and hoping to have it slammed out in a day or two for your first taste of public consumption! Xenaero Posted August 17, 2022 Hello, my little hordamaniacs. Remember how I said I'd have Release Candidate 1 out in a day or two? I lied. Release Candidate 2 is now out! (Found a few whoopsies, yesterday) https://www.dropbox.com/s/71qqd2651m75e8y/Hordamex-RC2.zip?dl=0 Ideally, unless I somehow missed something gamebreaking, this will be what we'll use at the coming event, and is what I am presenting to the world as the fruits of this talented team's labor. Load it up in the brand new release of Odamex 10.2 and let us know what you think! I want to give a shoutout to the dev team for Odamex for responding so swiftly to some of the wacky issues we were facing during the development of this project. Port development isn't easy, so give it up for @AlexMax, @killingblair, @Ralphis, @electricbrass, and others who have worked behind the scenes to provide a smooth, player-friendly experience in Horde Mode! What's next? QuakeCon is next weekend, and we'll have server information up in a couple days! 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xenaero Posted August 19, 2022 Servers are now LIVE for the weekend of QuakeCon 2022! Start Odamex with Doom II: Hell on Earth Open the console (With the tilde key, you know the one!) Paste one of the following commands: To join SERVER A - connect 74.91.112.85:10314 To join SERVER B - connect 74.91.112.85:10315 And that's it! The server will automagically download any files you're missing, like Hordamex itself! If you're using a server browser like Doom Explorer, look for the servers named [WDL] doomleague.org - QuakeCon 2022 Event: Doom Horde Mode! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xenaero Posted August 30, 2022 So now we're past the QuakeCon Community event, where we saw a phenomenal turnout, maxing out the server almost as soon as the event went live! We got some coverage of the maps on the livestream, of which I have a VOD here! Apart from that, we're currently on RC3, downloadable here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dbqe92l5ksh2d3a/Hordamex-RC3.zip?dl=0 Additionally, Hordamex is also being played along with OdaHorde on the Monday Night Horde event hosted by the Odamex dev team! Be sure to check your server browsers on Monday nights (EST)! We're planning on doing a quality of life sweep before we hit our official release, so we're almost there~ 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
rparhkdtp Posted August 30, 2022 (edited) I'm writing this for those who might be in a similar situation to mine. My computer is a GMK Nucbox S and I am using UHD 600,8GB RAM on an Intel J4125. When playing The Hordes of Odamex alone, over 700-800 corpses pile up in one place, and the game slows down and crashes due to the numerous attack particle effects of monsters. Potato computers can't afford basic settings like GZDoom. So it is necessary to fix the settings. Go to the folder where Odamex is installed and open odamex.cfg. // Rocket explosion thrust effect? Find set "sv_splashfactor" and rewrite the value to 0 or 0.01. Even if you set it to 0, it returns to 0.01, so you can use either of them. // Draw particles Find set "r_particles" and overwrite the value to 0. Find set "vid_defwidth" and set "vid_defheight" and rewrite them to 960,540 respectively. This resolution is the resolution I use on GZDoom and has a 16:9 aspect ratio. So there is no screen cut like 4:3. // Full screen video mode Set "vid_fullscreen" to "2". Exclusive outputs 960 540 literally, so I have to use it as a window. I checked it myself. After setting, sometimes music is output, but there is no sound. Restart Odamex and if that doesn't work, restart your computer. Right now, it feels like 5-10 frames are cut off when there are a lot of corpses in one place, but it doesn't interfere with play. (Maybe it's because I'm mostly camping on the stairs in the first map) All words were accompanied by a translator. Edited August 30, 2022 by rparhkdtp 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
