[Community Project] Doomed Urbex (State Of 1st Beta Compilation)

And allow me to be first one who can contribute a map for this project. That was mine idea, so I must do something too.

 

🔸 Map Name: "Not A Kingpin".
🔸 Author: RastaManGames.

🔸 Music: "Duke Nukem 3D" - "Taking The Death Toll".

🔸 Ports Tested: "DSDA-Doom".

🔸 Difficulty Settings: Implemented (Easy -> K:51/I:40/S:5, Medium -> K:56/I:40/S:5, Hard -> K:55/I:40/S:5).

🔹 Multiplayer Stuff: Few DM starts that was tossed around the map along with SSGs.

🔹 Description: These backalleys not only dark, but very dangerous. And there is not gonna be any thugs and punks. Only posessed humans and Hellish creatures. But there is must be a way out of this Hell's hole, right? Yes. It is. You must find it and get out of this damned place that is no longer belongs to living beings. Good luck with that! By the way, there is still might be something useful for smart guy like you.

🔹 Notes: This not must be taken as mood setup for entire CP. Just my move to engage someone to make their own map with these custom textures. The title is resembling, why there is few places that looks like ones from "Skidrow" district from "Kingpin: Life Of Crime" videogame. This is not a 120% copy. Map was made with fresh mind by my hands. Only image of Skidrow was in my head.

Edit: Heads up, some flats in this pack are in the wrong format, might want to adjust this.

Boom-based source ports don't parse ANIMDEFS, though. And MBF21 is still essentially Boom, albeit greatly extended. If you want the animations to actually work in the target port, you'll need to use an ANIMATED lump to do it.

"Realistic Texture Pack" was changed according to @MFG38's suggestion (using ANIMATED instead of ANIMDEFS).

 

Some "ping-pong" animations was impossible to make due to existing naming system that was made by author of this texture pack (just pure RFLAT1-RFLAT198 without something like RFMET01 or RFWOOD01 and etc.), but main part (the magic TV) is working now.

I'm interested in joining but first a stupid question: Where do I choose MBF21 as a map format? If I hit F6 to choose displayed mapping formats I can't find anything about MBF21. Sorry, I only mapped in "Boom: Doom 2 (Doom Format)" so far.

 

Edit: I use Ultimate Doom Builder v3.0.0.3274

 

Edit 2: Just updated UDB thanks to @akolai, now I found all I need!

I had in mind to do a similar thing but more based upon world locations (Italy, France, Britain, Japan etc.)...

Haven't fiddled around much with MBF21, but I'll give it a go regardless. Tall buildings and Instant Death sectors go hand in hand ;)

mbf21 is something of a recent addition, you may have to update

If you're targeting MBF21, you also basically have UMAPINFO available as well, so there's no need to stick to the tired old 32 map format. You're free to tailor the maplist around the submissions you get (and even set up episodes or proper secret maps if you want) rather than try and shove everything into the old format.

I've been working on a personal project for so long (mostly graphics and sound at this point) and I need a break. Haven't made a map in a long time and I would like to refresh my skills!

No. This is just slots that was grabbed by mappers. With UMAPINFO (like it was mentioned by @Xaser) we can have as many maps as we can.

Great that you actually started this CP :)

I will definitely follow this thread as I'm interested in city maps.

I *might* make a map for this. Don't sign me in yet but if deadline is around end of year, I might join a bit later if you still have available slots.

Cool idea, I like the idea of maps based on urban architecture (The legendary E1L1 from Duke Nukem 3D is a great example, and one of the reasons why I love Chex Quest 2).

I don't know if I will be available, but if this projects stills for a long time I propably can do something.

I second the episodic format, I will feel less tired if this projects turns out to be a 70 maps megawad

To be honest, I don't think that we ever gonna reach that count.

I don't have a large expectations about total maps number, but it is gonna be really good if we can make, at least, something around ~15 maps.

 

By the way, I am gonna make another map while I have some steam for it:
