Doom Builder Just Removed EVERYTHING THAT WAS UNSAVED THAT I MADE LAST NIGHT! WOO!!! I'm starting to think Doom Builder is intentionally trying to make me not finish the map in time!!!!

you know, not related to the project or anything but this really makes me want to just make a map that has every single textured used, but the hardest part is the fact I wouldn't want that map to be TOO long XD, anyway map update now

Currently my main issue is just skill levels as currently there IS NO Skill levels, I'll focus on that AFTER I finish the map.

XD yeah! why wouldn't it be? Doom uses alot of rock music after all!

the downside to my time restraints is that I can't put much detail in

CHECK DAY #9 (MAY 21-2023)
 

Hello Guys, A new check day is here, and I want to use this one to talk about the deadline.

 

So, starting now we have 4 weeks till closing submissions, with one more check day in the middle.

I was wondering about stretching or not the deadline and I've taken a decision that I think will work.

 

-JUN 25 is still the SOFT CLOSE for submissions. If to that point there's no submitted map, the spot will be dropped. This count's also for maps that are not in the final stages. (almost done)

 

-For mappers that kept their spot but still need revisions or finishing the map I'll push the final line to JULY 16.
At that point, No more submissions will be received and I'll begin the compilation process.

 

I hope all of you understand that this is to prevent the project to stretch ad infinitum.

My goal is to deliver an open BETA by October, and there's plenty of work ahead once the maps are finished.

 

Now, here come the tags!

🔸 Ports Tested: DSDA-Doom 0.25.4 -Complevel 9

🔸 Difficulty Settings: implemented

 

Note. All 6 secrets are implemented and required for the completion. I think it's already playable.

Maybe a monster count a little too high but hope it doesn't feel staughtery.

It's almost a final version. I think I'll do some architecture and decoration later.

Also I wanted to ask.

 

@RED77, you stated at requirements:

- playtime between 5 to 20 minutes (no super big maps)

 

Question: what is a playtime for this CP?

Trained UV Max time? Or casual playthrough?

 

My map. It takes 23 minutes to complete (my run, I'm not a Doomgod but I'm the author, I know everything).

I assume more casual playthrough would take longer. If it is too long, I can reduce the map and make a 'extended version' release later.

Interesting map. 
The general feel is cool, a little on the simple side, but that's not bad.


I was not able to finish it, tho. I think the access to the yellow key is broken somehow.

So, here are some notes:

A)This is my main complaint, I don't know how can anyone guess to press that line to lower the lift.

there's no hint, plus you are basically pushing on the air. is that intended?

 

B)this button I would change the texture to make it a little more visible

 

C)The cable is a really great hint but the aesthetic of the map just gets lost, I would change the color.

 

D)About the yellow key, I presume hitting this face will be granted access to this teleporter or something like that, but to no avail, I've tried to look on doom builder and it looks like I'm in the correct but still can't access it.

Hey @purple_ruberoid 

 

This is such a great map, It's true is a little long, but I think most of it is for the backtracking on the skull keys section.

Plus, there's the optional fight for the BFG which I think doesn't count. 

 

About The slaughter aspect, that's true for hard skill, but that's ok. cause mid-skill is totally accessible (I even think you can drop some of the powerups on mid).

 

So I would make only minor changes, here are some notes:

Spoiler

 

A) you can fall on the gap between the platform and these two panels, that's a softblock

B) If you drop from the platform without pushing the button, you get soft-blocked. If I don't remember wrong, it was a lift in the first version.

C) these two sections have no purpose on easy skill I would block them on it.

D) there's a long backtrack here to the final fight. Maybe you can add a teleport that can be accessed only with the 3 skull keys?

you know what I'm not even gonna try to fix it anymore... I'm gonna rush this thing, I'm gonna rush it and get this thing done...

if it crashes again...I quit

I Had 3 whole secrets done but the thing decided it was gonna have a tantrum and delete everything

Doom Builder...you have a job to do, and its to build. Maps. now stop crashing over insignificant things!!!

Only 10 days I could've had 10 days to decorate... but now I have 10 days to BUILD

I honestly don't even know if I want to rebuild... it took so long...

Hey @Rabbid. Hope you don't take this the wrong way. But you should consider beginning saving more often, It's like the 5th time the same thing happened to you.

If it helps I usually save at least once every 15 minutes. plus I made backups on different points of the progress just in case.

Hey again, thanks for the feedback and here's my response to allat

A - there was actually a switch there as the hint, but I realized that the HUD can block it easily with the maps geometry, so I changed it accordingly

B - Added an outline, changing the base color would make it waay too easy, but regardless it's done

C - Yeah I feel you, Added a slight black line on the roof to make it more visible

D - In the original post, I sent the wrong version of the map, there was misaligned textures, broken spawners, and worst of all the door that was supposed to open after shooting that button didn't work because the sectors clipped into each other (No clue how the hell that happened), but I fixed it all and this SHOULD be the final truly done version, as usual though get back to me if not

I was like a second away but I was like "No I need to fix the issue first" and thats what caused it to break

Oh, dude, I'm sorry ...

 

I've been in your situation ... After that I made a habit of pressing "Ctrl" + "S" realy regularly. Basically after every minor change. Believe me, it helps
