Alfonzo Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) April, 2018 > Download 50 Monsters > NaZa's unofficial leader board Leaderboard [2] 29 levels Bloodite Krypto - It takes something truly savage to down Ser Krypto. Just when it looks like he'd done enough to escape map28's shoe box horror start, the cyberdemon and WOODMET combine to finish the job. Nicely done as always, though. [2] 27 levels WH-Wilou84 - A thorough understanding of the set does little to detract from what is doubtless a magnificent performance. [1] 21 levels Ancalagon - Engulfed in an afrit's fiery hug. From blammo! [2] 18 levels BioRenegat - Some sweet thrills by newcomer Bio. Finally met his end in a sticky stream of spider plasma. Sniped! [2] 17 levels AD_79 - Author plays own creation; the third such instance in DWIronman history! Doesn't embarrass himself. Cyber-bruised. [2] 16 levels Bdubzzz - The sky is falling! Pinned by a surprise pain elemental and pressed into the lava. [2] 12 levels an_mutt - Snuffed it in the dual arch-vile fight; but it's the zombieman that gets the chocolates. [3] 12 levels RjY - I most enjoy Rj's runs when chaos upsets his preparations. But even map10's hiccups were not enough to unseat him. (DNF) [3] 12 levels Malrionn - Wasn't prepared for a surprise sergeant in the firemen apologetics department. [2] 12 levels dt_ - Threw himself on top of Malrionn's corpse to form a Very Unapologetic Hill. Will it be upgraded to a mountain? [1] 12 levels Demon of the Well - A rare blemish from Demon who's sent packing by a couple of crafty firemen. Unfamiliarity chews a few minutes off the clock. [2] 11 levels NoisyVelvet - Now makes angry noises forever in the firemen apologetics department. [1] 11 levels NaZa - For the briefest of moments, possessed by moths. [2] 10 levels GarrettChan - Focused all his attention on a rear-end arch-vile and paid the price in imps. [3] 10 levels Dragonfly - Bustled into a corner by some nasty revenant rockets and then sat on by a mancubus. [2] 09 levels Alfonzo - Did all the hard work then got caught in the headlights. Dodging 101. (DNF) [1] 09 levels antares031 - Surprised and bested by map08's ultimate trap. [2] 09 levels Dime - Did you know? You can play pong with a Dime just as well as with a ping pong ball. [2] 08 levels Anima Zero - Chose the worst possible moment to make a run for map08's BK. Arch-vile capitalizes with ease. [2] 08 levels Beginner - Loved the southern area so much he didn't want to leave. And then he couldn't :( (DNF) [1] 07 levels SSGmaster - Played the pain chance lottery instead of trying again to retreat from an arch-vile's attack. [2] 06 levels leodoom85 - Will not be sent an invitation to the cyberdemon ball later this year. [1] 05 levels Vince Vega - map05's bastard arch-vile, Devlin the Unhuggable, forces Vega out into the courtyard for a final showdown. [3] 04 levels Suitepee - Thanks to bonus calculations, Suitepee sits ahead of his like-finishing compatriots. Emotional SUPPORT required. [1] 04 levels JudgeDeadd - Hemmed in against a trench full of nasties. Should have picked a target and stuck at it! [2] 04 levels cannonball - It's the same spectre from last month and it's back for more chow! [3] 04 levels guineu - guineu is in need of some emotional SUPPORT. [1] 04 levels Agent6 - Set on edge by a couple of PEs; had his head caved in by an unseen adversary. [1] 04 levels 42PercentHealth - Chalk another one up to Devlin. Nice death cam! [2] 03 levels Catpho - The twin hell knights are the centerpiece of an event now officially known as emotional SUPPORT3. [2] 03 levels Roofi - Double-teamed by some trench dweller boneheads. Ouch! [1] 03 levels Xyzzy01 - Ripped apart by a couple of hell knight chucklefucks. Those guys know how to work their way around a trap. [2] 03 levels DaIcemann76 - Blindsided in map04's watery trench. [2] 02 levels Eris Falling - Lost a game of dominos with a nazi chaingunner. BACK DOWN TO EARTH, ERIS. [1] 01 levels Crusader No Regret - Hang in there, CNR. You'll get yours, yet! [1] 00 levels HexaDoken - Kudos on a brave upload. You've got huge IRON GUTS. [1] 00 levels Urthar - Yes! That's what I'm talking about. Run is pre-packaged and ready to go in a stimpack cubby, to boot :) What is the Doomworld Ironman League? The DWIronman League is a monthy competition in which participants aim to survive for as many levels as possible in the given map set, preferably in one sitting. Click the spoiler tag below for a detailed list of rules. Players of all levels of ability are welcome. It could change the way you play Doom! In April 2018 the DWIronman League dies to @AD_79's 50 Monsters, -complevel 2 (doom (strict)), a 32-map megawad (plus extras) for Doom 2 sporting 50 hungry demons for every level in the set. AD_ is an accomplished designer with experience in several high profile projects, and his early career took off through speedmapping practices like the Obsidian-hosted Abyssal Speedmapping Sessions. As such, he has developed a highly streamlined and colorful style with individual levels that are singularly themed and directed. Expect this set to play fast and almost arcade-like from start to finish. Custom monsters and music abound. Guest maps by Breezeep, an_mutt, The Mionic Donut, skillsaw and 4shockblast. NOTE: This set features bonus levels unreachable through normal play (map33 and map35). Any player may play these maps in any order either before or after their run of the main event. In other words, it's the same setup as with the dual-set format. Levels are additive and will be expressed as such in the rankings. Potential Game-stoppers and Bugs Death exits on map10, map20 and map29. prboom-plus -file 50monstr -complevel 2 -warp -skill 4 -record my_demo Spoiler One attempt per month. Good luck! Demos (PrBoom+, GLBoom or Eternity), stream highlights and video recordings are the only accepted proofs. You must link to these runs in the thread. UV only continous; no pistol-starting. No other wads unless they are purely cosmetic. No hard-coded cheats or features that result in behaviour beyond what is possible in the intended source port (e.g. freelook, jumping and crouching in a boom set). If streaming or recording videos using an advanced source port with compatability options, you must not enable any flags that result in behavior beyond what is possible in the intended source port. In most cases, this will mean that you can comfortably use "Doom/Boom(strict)" behaviour in ZDoom, for example. You must also display these settings on-screen before your run. You may segment your run providing on-screen evidence of having loaded from the same save file. Demos may also be managed across multiple sittings, but only -cl9 allows for loading within a single .lmp. i.e. unless you are streaming or capturing your run, or unless there are pistol start opportunities within a set such as with Scythe or Ultimate Doom episodes, this will not be possible within vanilla constraints. If you choose to stream your run rather than provide a demo and you die before completing a single level, either on map01 of a set or because of a single level being selected for the month, you must display the number of monsters killed/remaining in the level before you quit. The number of kills registered will determine your ranking versus other players who died on that level. You do not have to play the secret levels in order to register a complete run. However, a player who finishes the game having completed more secret levels will rank higher than his competitors. You cannot load a game having progressed past the save point. You cannot consult Doom Builder during your run to check for map details. Your viewers may, however. If your operating system fails during the run such that the stream/recording becomes irretrievable, you are permitted a second or subsequent attempt. Technical difficulties during streams or recordings that present as merely an impediment (i.e. the run is still observable, in the case of a stream) do not count as system failures. In these instances, you should save the game, if possible, and resume when the issue has been resolved. Death exits do not disqualify a run (duh!) but accidentally restarting the level before the tally screen appears will. Stay frosty! You are required to affix one of three numbers to your run informing the League of your degree of familiarity with the map/set played. Note that your evaluation should only take into consideration the content covered in your run (e.g. if you scout only the first level of a WAD you're otherwise unfamiliar with and die in the first level, you should list your run as [3] instead of [2]. If you remember only one part of a level in a set you haven't played before but never reach that level, you should list your run as a [1] instead of [2]): This is a blind run. If I have played or watched any of the level/set being played before, I can't remember the details of any one area in a way that would offer an advantage over truly blind players. This is a familiar run. I have played or watched the level/set being played before — even if it's only one area — and can remember enough details to have an advantage over blind players. This is a prepared run. NaZa Posted April 2, 2018 Dammit, this one's blind too. Well, that's what I get for mostly playing Maximum Doom and pre-2000 WADs. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Suitepee Posted April 2, 2018 Well I've played this before, and I remember a lot of tricky parts despite the low monster count. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
tmorrow Posted April 2, 2018 50monstr is on my top 20 - doomworld community top wads of all time. The mapset is riddled with trickery and trappery so don't be fooled by low 50 monster count. Lies, lies and more lies. Map17 only has 49 monsters, map30 has 48, map32 has 100, map35 has 103. What's more map33 and map35 can't be reached through normal play. What a disgrace AD_79! I can't wait to see how far the elite players can get this month. I still haven't completed all the maps on uvmax yet. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tristan Posted April 2, 2018 Yeah I've played this before. It was a very fun TNS back in 2015, actually kinda surprising considering the concept. I remember the single-player being pretty rough though, probably won't make it to MAP05. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
NaZa Posted April 2, 2018 Fonz, I've recorded my main run. Do I go ahead and record MAP33 and MAP35 now? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) Yes. You've also the option of recording those runs before the main WAD, instead, or even one before and one after—it makes no difference, as long as it's not wedged in between levels of the main block. Treat it as a vv/vv2 or endgame/endpoint arrangement. I should also add that it is unnecessary to provide demos for any single map that you do not complete provided that you at least pass MAP01 of 50 Monsters. e.g. if you die in MAP33 but survive MAP35 and manage to get on the board in the main set, you don't need to zip up the MAP33 demo. NaZa Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) Alrighty! CATEGORY 1 Not sure if anyone will survive MAP33 tbh that map is really AAARRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. I didn't, for the record Died on MAP11 after about 50 minutes of escaping encounters with less than 20 HP sometimes. I presume I've survived MAP35 because an error in PrBoom+ made the game crash when I killed the final monster because "there's no CWILV34". NaZa-50Monstr-Ironman.zip My death is up there with my other deaths from this year, from cutting across a cyberdemon while in the middle of a volley, having a lust for hot beverage so high that it made me blind and deaf, getting into a revenant's face... now it's relying on triggering pain chance on Fuego the Archvile. With an SSG it's risky, but no, I went with a standard shotgun and I died. The run was stressful and I loved the set, it was similar to my trap solutions so I quickly felt like home and managed to adapt to the WAD quicker than I'd thought. I really want to finish this WAD now, but casually. Here's the pic. I'm way up and I am comin' down Fuego taking me higher Ah yeah yeah 'I'm burning up and I ain't coolin' down Yeah he got the fire Ah yeah yeah Edited April 2, 2018 by NaZa clarificat 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

Tristan Posted April 2, 2018 I'M FINE! I'M... FINE!!! Spoiler cat 2, map03, bullshit-o-meter off the charts, and MAP33 was exactly the map I was hoping it wouldn't be, heh, bad co-op memories of that one. I haven't even played Doom since Warlock's Hearth last month so there was very much a 'whatever' attitude to this. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
GarrettChan Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) I'll definitely do this later this week. I guess despite being the number 1 in UV -Fast category (since no one cares :D) of most of the maps, I still really suck at the game ;P @NaZaOoo, Map11, that one is quite nasty because of the death exit. Wait... is it? Edited April 2, 2018 by GarrettChan 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh yeah, in MAP10 I desperately tried to get those cells thinking they'd carry over to the next level, but when I heard explosions and myself dead, I realized I could've exited the level 2-3 minutes sooner! Urgh. Still, the fate would have been the same. EDIT: To not double-post, the standings have been updated. Bloodite Krypto enjoys the a dominant start so far, but in 2016 Demon of the Well's lead over WH-Wilou84 was twice as large. Both of them are pretty strong contenders now still (DotW won last time out!), joined by The Prep Master RjY and Beginner who's on serious pace this year. The Britbowl squad is separated by about 35,000 points, with an_mutt comfortably leading (it's 2-1-0 in the head-to-head). Is this the month Suitepee finally snatches the win? Malrionn, one of the newcomers to the league in 2018, started off very strong. However, the question is will he keep it throughout the year and challenge the Brits and the GJ! duo. SleepyVelvet Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) DEAD Map11. I was well past the meat of the map and my aim with rocket threw me off, then finished off by a near-death archvile. I am angry with my death; I am now an angry archvile. Category 2. I remember the themes for a lot of maps, not the specifics though. Dead: Map11 Dead: Map33 Survived: Map35 edit (more info): Map01 is tricky with no armor and little heath. Once you get to map 02 and get the armor, I giant burden is loaded off of you. There's still some tricky ambuses but Map02 is where you get actual momentum. I feel bad for the Map01 deaths that might come. I'm also pissed that I died on Map11, which was probably another momentum hurdle because of forced pistol start. I was so friggin close to getting over the second hurdle. prboom-plus.exe -file .\50monstr.wad -deh .\50monstr.deh -complevel 2 -skill 4 -nomusic -record noisy_50monstr.lmp prboom-plus.exe -file .\50monstr.wad -deh .\50monstr.deh -complevel 2 -skill 4 -nomusic -warp 33 -record noisy_50monstr_map33.lmp prboom-plus.exe -file .\50monstr.wad -deh .\50monstr.deh -complevel 2 -skill 4 -nomusic -warp 35 -record noisy_50monstr_map35.lmp Edited April 2, 2018 by NoisyVelvet 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

AD_79 Posted April 2, 2018 Sure wasn't expecting to see this. I'm trying to think about how well this would work in an Ironman sense... there's a lot of dick-moves throughout and I definitely can't see myself getting through in one piece (Yeah, I'm probably going to play this time; I feel obligated to, haha). Best of luck to everyone! If someone manages to survive to the very end, they will forever be remembered as a certified bad-ass to me. If that's any incentive, which it really isn't :P 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) Due to the inherently buggy nature of map35's "exit", I'll not be counting the time elapsed for any survivors of that map. I guess this means that the number of kills on map02 becomes important if you plan on dying there but surviving the bonus map, somehow, so take heed streamers! EDIT: Surprise! map33 is exactly the same. I sure do know my engine quirks. No timey wimey stuff for that level, either. Edited April 4, 2018 by Alfonzo 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I added @Alfonzo to the list; he should be included as well, since he does have 1,000,000 points. He is the host of this thread, which is the only reason I left him off the original list. I'd like to rectify that now. Edited April 3, 2018 by Pegleg Rectified the omission of Alfonzo and added RjY. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NaZa Posted April 3, 2018 @Pegleg That's a brave move... I remember when in October or September Alfonzo was first and wanted to remain but dobu pinged Veinen, Bloodite and DotW to overthrow him :D Nevertheless, all the people you pinged should have a good chance of getting far, but Veinen didn't participate since December, as well as Roofi (he did participate in February) Also, the standings have all three (2016, 2017 and 2018) years covered, it's near the bottom, one can choose between sheets. I didn't mention that before and now's my chance to finally do so :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I rectified that situation. I was just highlighting the top folks so far who would likely contend for @AD_79's title of "certified bad-ass." It was meant to be in fun. I also noticed Veinen hadn't participated this year, but was one of the top scorers, even sitting with a big zero in the 2018 column, and so was included. @RjY has also been performing well of late, and didn't reach 1,000,000 only from lack of participation in 2016. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

seed Posted April 3, 2018 (edited) Alright, I have returned for another round this month xdd. I managed to survive a couple of maps, but not too many, and eventually died after I got trapped and the PE overwhelmed me with their stinking LS :v . It's once again a completely blind playthrough although I do admit that at certain part it does look like I was already prepared for what comes next (such as when I switch to the Chaingun and strafe run for a short distance to successfully avoid a Revenant that teleports in after activating a button for instance), thought that was just the map being surprisingly predictable sometimes. I enjoyed the wad, neat new textures but seriously what's with all these Chaingunners lol. I'll likely participate from now on, regardless of how poorly I might do. This was played and recorded in PrBoom+ 2.5.1.4 with the launch settings indicated in the original post. agent6returns.zip Edited April 3, 2018 by Agent6 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Anima Zero Posted April 3, 2018 Ok, let's see how I did (category 2 run, played this during a TNS session back in the day). Going to be interesting since I have a new computer to play around with and all that. First, I did map33 & 35. Map35 I died after hitting a switch and had a bunch of Cacodemon v2s rain down on me with no real way to repel them easily. Reason? Evidently I missed getting an invul sphere at the megaarmor when I was messing around without recording afterwards. THANKS GAME! Decided to package up the fail if you want some laughs. At the very least....I survived map33. Somehow. Didn't die running for the SSG, got the ensuing cyber to do clean up work on the majority of everything I ran past, then I proceeded to nearly die myself finishing the cyber off. 7 health left with the cyber still breathing and the arena I have to work with is rather nail biting ya know. After that, not too hard to exit (and find out PRBoom Plus crashes with some "lol idclv32 or whatever" message, woot!). Of course, what's really worth the marbles are the main levels. Plodding along slowly here, doing fine....and then map 8 rolls around. Make it to the BSK...and somehow don't die here with the minute of chaos that ensues coming up to it. So, I'm in the clear, about to make the run up to snag the BSK and bolt out of there. Feel free to play your choice of the Sonic drowning theme when that happens because it'll suit the build up to my death perfectly, but with fire instead of water. SSGmaster Posted April 5, 2018 Category 1, died in map 7, 31:57 : did not survived map 33, 33:51 : survived map 35 Stupid death (as always) to an Arch-Vile because of a shoot that I missed because I was at 15% health and I was worried that a Lost Soul would kill me (so my brain told me to kill the Arch-Vile and the Lost soul at the same time). For map 33, I had bad luck with the Cyber Demon. I wanted him to kill the other enemies but I didn't had the time to avoid his shoot. Map 35 was straight forward, just using the Plasma Gun until nobody move. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
HexaDoken Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) So, uhhh.... ummmm.... well... I didn't survive any of the levels. Cat 1, 39 monsters killed on map01, 56 monsters killed on map35, and, being the absolute master of everything that I dabble in, I didn't even record the kill count on map33. Worst Ironman Ever. I swear I usually am better than this! Well, whatever. Enjoy your free points, people? Edited April 5, 2018 by HexaDoken there is a day when I learn not to forget to specify category.
