Cruduxy Pegg Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) At least they didn't spoil the entire movies like too many horror\action movies. Those comments on the video itself though.. People are surely remembering that trash movie as way better than it actually was. Edited March 11, 2019 by Pegg 0 Share this post Link to post
BChricton78 Posted March 11, 2019 Well, you know what they say... Here we go again! And seriously I'm all for Girl Power, but replacing the Doom-Slayer with an Ellen Ripley wannabe... No. Just no. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted March 11, 2019 The worst part of the movie is clearly the "die die die" part. That is such awful and unconvincing acting. 4 Share this post Link to post
crazyflyingdonut Posted March 11, 2019 That trailer was terrible. Well, I'm not gonna waste my time watching this movie like I did with the first Doom movie. And the fact that there's also a Sonic, Mario, and Pokemon movie on the way as well gives me the thought that maybe film companies don't give two shits about the fact that making videogame-based movies doesn't really end well. I would rather torture myself by taking a shower with the little knob thing on the wall pointing to the left so that I'd be showering in the EXTREMELY HOT WATER than torture myself by watching another videogame-based movie! 1 Share this post Link to post

Gerardo194 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) Great trailer, I love it!!! I'm happy to see it was published. As other user said before, it seems the marines are called Doom Slayers in this movie; now I wonder if some theories from fans can be true here: Joan Dark finding Doomguy's sarcophagus or something else just like Doom 3 when in the final level you see yourself in a sarcophagus and tablets about you doing something you have never done before (Doom3 timeline) Edited March 11, 2019 by Gerardo194 4 Share this post Link to post

Kristian Nebula Posted March 11, 2019 Anyone notice the lady marine using a chainsaw at around 21-22 secs in just before the cut to the green sequence? I think it looks interesting to say the least, the base picture reminds me heavily of the E1 intermission screen! 3 Share this post Link to post

MrGlide Posted March 11, 2019 5 minutes ago, Marn said: "Wanted: Doomslayers" lol if people this bad at marketing are able to get into the movie industry, what's stopping you or me or some guy that lives down the street? Motivation and drive to do so. I'm someone who still believes you can be damn near anything you really want to be, as long as you want to do it like you need to breath air, it can be accomplished, it's just finding that kind of drive for things that can be difficult. As for the Movie, looks like flaming shit ass. I saw it a mile awaay, remember the live action dragon ball movie, the people making this are doing the same thing, I highly doubt they give a shit about the original fans or anything that makes doom, doom, they are just making a product. 0 Share this post Link to post
SaladBadger Posted March 11, 2019 there's not enough to tell conclusively so far but ugh I'm not feeling it at all. it's really hard to have a lot of faith in a director who's only works so far have been pretty poorly received direct-to-video movies. from a skills standpoint, everyone starts somewhere and I'm sure a lot of famous directors have their early poor works, but we're talking about someone who has, over nearly a decade, never produced anything that rated very well, and it seems he isn't about to have his first surprise success here. Oh well. There's something that feels so... weird about marketing these days. Those sonic movie slides just feel so cynical and noncaring in nature. Has this always been a thing? Were there presentations done for Aliens and Terminator and all sorts of other action flicks I love in some shareholder's meeting room with soulless feeling slides talking about subjects like character identities and color palettes and the like. 1 Share this post Link to post
⇛Marnetmar⇛ Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) The sad thing about all this is that the basic Doom plotline is vague enough to actually have decent movie potential if someone took enough creative liberty. You could do a straight 1-to-1 rip-off of Aliens with demons instead of xenomorphs, or you could do No Country For Old Men in space except Anton Chigurh is Doomslayer and Llwellyn Moss is Olivia Pierce, or you could do 2001: A Space Odyssey but instead of the monoliths you have the anomalies on Phobos and Deimos. DefilerPhil47 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) This is my gripE: how absolutely hard is it to at least MIMIC what the doom guy looked like. solid plate armor and the specific shaped helmet. They are dressed up just like some generic run of the mill future army SWAT people. I get it, budget, yes yes, but how hard could it be to just make the helmet and some like really dark green armor, ANYTHING, C'MON. TBH I think a good version of a Doom movie would prob be too close to Aliens. Space marines blasting demons/monsters on a dark moon base has been done before. Also that trailer looked like complete ass. I mean I wasn't expecting a masterpiece but still. Even if the director is a hardcore Doom fan, one can only do so much with a low budget. 0 Share this post Link to post

The Nate Posted March 11, 2019 Fact: that teaser was *30 seconds* Fact: we barely saw *anything* from said 30 seconds Fact: 30 seconds isn't enough to judge a film as a whole Sadly, everyone on Youtube and Twitter doesn't quite seem to understand this. 5 Share this post Link to post

This is presuming the Doomguy doesn't indeed show up, looking like the Doomguy, as his own character, which is a (granted perhaps wishful thinking) theory. Making him look right in film would be tricky though. Even the official Besthesda produced Doom 2016 live-action trailer didn't quite look right. 0 Share this post Link to post
seed Posted March 11, 2019 Ew, man, that was so underwhelming. The zombies remind me of Beyond Black Mesa for some reason, but even those looked much better and especially believable, as unfaithful to the original they were because budget. I would have liked to remain optimistic but after this trailer... my hopes are now at 0. 0 Share this post Link to post

Man of Doom Posted March 11, 2019 So I said this over at r/Doom, and I feel the need to say it here: Quote So there's quite a lot of backlash with the upcoming Doom: Annihilation, so I'd like to share my thoughts and address all the criticisms that are already starting to pop up. "They're making this movie just to keep the rights to the franchise!" Do you actually have solid evidence of this or you’re just basing it on hearsay of what happened to other movie franchises? About how many times are we going to do this same song and dance? What was revealed a few days ago pretty much killed all the allegations made about the new movie BEFORE we knew anything about it other than the identity of the cast and the studio making it. The only “excuse” left that I still see dangling around is “I’m not going to watch this movie because I was expecting a major movie studio to take a monetary risk and give a superhero-sized budget to a franchise whose previous film bombed hard in theaters more than ten years ago despite the massive popularity of said franchise”. (seriously though, go read the synopsis if you don't mind spoilers; besides, it's basically a combined plotline of Knee-Deep in the Dead and The Shores of Hell) But here's what we know now: Not only there wasn’t (or isn’t) such thing as a “female Doomguy”; going by the official synopsis, the female protagonist is more or less a gender-bent Reaper (Karl Urban). Hell, we don’t even know if she'll survive this time! (and the chances of that are pretty slim to none given the synopsis) It was also confirmed by the synopsis that the entire group of space marines is pretty much cannon fodder for the demonic invasion on Phobos (and yes, it's been more-or-less confirmed to actually take place on Phobos) There WILL be a proper male Doomguy (said spoiled by the director himself on Twitter after getting hundreds if not thousands of angry messages that he somehow managed to address with all the patience of a fucking saint), and now we pretty much know he’ll appear at the climax or epilogue of the movie This movie will have actual demons this time, with the majority of them being made with little to no CGI involved (If you want extra reassurance about this, go take a look at the entry of this movie at IMDb) Whether this movie ends up sucking or not, that’ll be another story that we’ll get to know until this fall. But if it does suck, it’ll be on its own terms, and not because of the somehow exorbitant expectations made by people looking for an excuse to be angry, never mind the actual harassment campaign on Twitter that ended up targeting both the director and especially the actress in the main protagonist role. Personally I wasn't expecting a new Doom movie let alone a Doom movie in this form, but I’m still going to watch Annihilation to form my own opinion. "This movie is automatically going to suck because reasons!" YOU DON'T KNOW THAT YET. There will be only one way to find out and that will come around this fall. Whether the budget of the film plays a big part on it succeeding or not, that’ll be another story. But I’ll say this: If people absolutely want a Doom movie with a superhero movie-tier budget of about $200-300M, they must go out of their way to support and watch Doom: Annihilation. I know you may not like this idea, but this is honestly the only way you could show Universal Studios and Hollywood in general that there is an actual interest for a big budget Doom film that respects the source material (animated or live-action, it doesn't matter). Hell, the next Doom movie could be a $250M sci-fi gore-fest directed by Neill Blomkamp or Guillermo Del Toro; it doesn't even have to follow up the story of this movie! Hell, the next Doom movie could be a tie-in spinoff for the new Doom Universe that's all about the Night Sentinels! Besides, that kind of budget doesn't even guarantee that it'll automatically be successful due to its hard R-rated niche premise (a space marine killing demons in extremely graphic ways). Hell, Blade Runner 2049 was a hard R-rated niche movie that had a budget of about $150M, and not even its legacy could save it from being considered a box office failure (at least domestically). A sub-division of Universal Studios focused on home releases is doing this new Doom movie, but it appears that they have showed interest for this movie to succeed, and the director feels the same way. Hell, the director is himself an outspoken Doom fan. The only missing effort is the one from Doom fans that somehow seem to want a Doom movie to rival the Avengers franchise in terms of budget and scope. Nobody is forcing you to support a movie that may or may not be worse than the 2005 film, but if you really want that reenactment of Doom 2016 as a 90-minute movie consisting of nothing but the Doomslayer pounding demon skulls on the big screen, this movie could use some extra firepower. And with that being said, if you’re still dissatisfied with how it looks or how it turns out: Well, there’s always options like Kickstarter and GoFundMe, or you can turn your view to (perhaps) Source Filmmaker. If this movie ends up sucking, your floppies of the original Doom are not going to poof out of existence. If this movie somehow ends up being worse than the 2005 movie, your entire database of Doom mods is not going to permanently delete itself for no reason, nor will your computer spontaneously combust just because it has anything Doom-related on it. If this movie's Rotten Tomatoes score ends up in the single digits, John Romero himself is not going to say "doog os gnileef ton m'I" before he magically crumbles into dust. You still have the games to enjoy, and Doom Eternal to look forward to. Lastly, I do NOT want to hear any more gooseshit about how "this is clearly the work of esjaydubbaewes/enpeecis/killer mole people", PERIOD. So with all that said, calm the fuck down. Let's just wait until the movie actually comes out, and then we'll see if it ends up being any good. 12 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted March 11, 2019 2 hours ago, Man of Doom said: there’s the peanut gallery calling for the heads of the cast and crew involved because this movie isn’t going to be a glorified 90-minute playthrough of Doom 2016 (or rather, a 90-minute version of that one live-action Doom 2016 commercial). Seriously. I become less and less patient with the nu-Doom fans wailing on about this with every post I read about it. Doom was never about the "Doom Slayer". That's something a totally different corporate-owned id made up in 2016 and now everyone pretends it was always the case. The Doom I'm a fan of was about you and your experiences playing the game, not some demi-god roid-raging maniac with a mile-long (yet so-far totally vapid and devoid of actual sense) backstory from some magical Elder Scrolls expy-world. I couldn't be MORE glad than I am that the movie has nothing to do with this, and the salt being poured out over it will go well with a side of fries for me. If I just want to play Doom 2016 again, I'll just fire up the game. I don't need to watch its plot get regurgitated on a movie screen and further the total cultural erasure of the original which, let's be frank, Bethesda would be perfectly OK with if they could accomplish it. Show me something that pays homage to the game that, for me, is still the defining part of the series. 2 hours ago, Man of Doom said: So far, the monster effects are pretty impressive so far, and it already looks to be more faithful to the classic games. I felt the imp looked pretty good as far as a strictly practical effects monster goes. The head shape reminds me of Doom 64 a bit. 2 hours ago, Man of Doom said: Joan Dark appears to be clearly wielding the BFG 9000; check the lighting on the gun itself. Tony confirmed to me on Twitter that it's in fact the BFG - the silhouette is excellently replicated, so it was hard to mistake :) 12 Share this post Link to post

SaladBadger Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) I'll be honest, I don't really like the air of "you can't be critical because it's just a trailer" i dunno. yeah it's not right to judge all of a 2 hour movie with 30 seconds, but at the same time first impressions leave well, an impression on people. If the first 30 seconds you show people are absolute garbage, what does that say about the remaining 7170 seconds? Surely in all those seconds they could have found better 30 seconds that don't spoil much but perform better. And then there's some of the other marketing things that have gone down...
