Can PK3 Map files have more than 8 digits?

I mostly believe the answer is no, but for the sake of those wondering those absurd questions like this, I'll ask on behalf of those curious to seek questions like this.

Is it like sprites where you can't have a sprite name longer than eight digits?

According to this very informative page, the name of the map wad file determines the name of the map, not the map name inside the wad, so it needs to be named something like MAP01.wad.
