3Dski-Doom Posted September 29, 2018 I an aging gamer/developer that keeps coming back to Doom. It might not have the graphical 3D bells and whistles of the 15G games of today, but it has all the elements of what makes shooter game fun. It's also obviously easier to build and play your own levels for any of the Doom flavors out there. I have no desire to spend my last days building a game engine... I want to be creative and have fun playing! There are a lot of shiny things to look at out there. For instance, Build/Duke Nukem 3D, which is quite similar. Someone on the forum thought it would be cool to recreate Doom with the Build engine, and I agree with another member's thought of this being crazy. However, Build is a bit more attractive because you can use layered sectors. There was another historical post here that questioned why one would want to add jump and crouch movements. I agree with the attitude that this does add more depth to the discovery aspect of the game; not being able to get to areas without jumping or crouching. "Secrets" in Doom have always been a double-edged sword for me. I can get through a level and enjoy it, but it's a real let down when you see you only found 2 out of 8 secrets! And, I do think there's a line somewhere, where secrets can just be made to be well, overly secret. Just wanted to say "Hi" and throw some of my thoughts out there since I'm new here, and so appreciative that there's still a classic Doom community out there! 16 Quote Share this post Link to post

kb1 Posted October 3, 2018 Welcome! Just wanted to say that you should look into today's source ports, which now do a lot of those things you mentioned, like jump/crouch, 3D floors, portals, voxels, 3D models, and so much more. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
