snapshot Posted October 3, 2018 (edited) DeviantArt? Actual Answer: seems heavily inspired by the Christian depiction of Hell so it's probably that. Edited October 3, 2018 by tempdecal.wad 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I've actually measured it two times in my life, first time was at school when I was 14 and I got 147. 2nd time I was made to do it was in the army when I was 20 and got 136 and they made me an office clerk and I sometimes got to do some special stuff with the reconnaissance team. Now, at 35 I haven't measured it but if the downward scale stays true it might be somewhere between 80-90 now and it's only gonna get worse :D On a more serious note, as a musician I'm a science nerd, especially with quantum physics which is very fascinating. I read a lot of science and tech stuff on my free time. It explains my earlier post a bit. But to stay on topic and to answer the question of what is hell, I'll bring up what I wrote into the automap of Whispers of Satan MAP30: "Hell is a state of mind". seed Posted October 3, 2018 My take on this, well, I think Doom's Hell is supposed to be a mixture of both sci-fi and religion, for the latter it's implied in either Ultimate Doom's or Doom 2's final intermission screen that Hell is the realm "where bad people go." 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nancsi Posted October 3, 2018 Sandy Petersen's levels are the simplified versions of the hell. They look so unpleasant to the eye, that's how hell might look like. If I go into a place with awesome volcanic grottos and great artwork surrounding them, I won't be bothered, just have my phone there for good photos. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Fonze Posted October 3, 2018 I just like that Hell never "plays fair" and no matter how good the Doomguy does, Hell always wins in the end. For my head canon: Doomguy died at the end of e1 and being not a particularly good person went to hell, only to fight his way to lights at the end of the tunnel that never truly come. Doomguy never really escaped Hell. So for my answer to the OP: yeah it's an Abrahamic Hell, though what's even to say then that death is the only way to reach it? 2 hours ago, Kristian Nebula said: "Hell is a state of mind". Thats a fun quote :) It also reminds me a bit of one of the interesting overarching themes of the movie "Faster" with The Rock, that "we create our own Hell," which is also a fun thought. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kristian Nebula Posted October 3, 2018 (edited) Another thought, has anyone ever read the comic "Spawn" by Todd McFarlane? It has a very interesting concept of heaven and hell (if you haven't read it then don't read any further bcs there will be stuff that spoils the plot a bit). Spoiler It is a concept where Satan and God are both just lower creator gods among millions and millions of such entities governing life on different planets, all created by the same universal consciousness that represents itself in the comic series in various different forms. These two lower creator gods just happened to become enemies to each other over time to the point where they decided to create their own armies for an ultimate war at the end of the planetary life cycle; Armageddon. They used both Spawns, the high officers of Hell and Angels to compete over collecting human souls for their armies. It was my absolute favourite comic in my teens!
