Alfonzo Posted December 1, 2018 (edited) December, 2018 > Download Ultimate Doom The Way id Did > NaZa's unofficial leader board Leaderboard [1] E4M5 WH-Wilout84 - Copy-paste Aquila's decision-making from M4, this time with Doctrines. Very enjoyable watch! [1] E4M4 Anima Zero - The long, dark hallway beckons... and with it, an opportunity to join the 1% club. [1] E4M4 Aquila Chrysaetos - Fought valiantly to find the exit only to turn tail for goodies. Found said goodies... and a whole lot more :) [1] E4M4 NoisyVelvet - At times cautious; at times brave. Ultimately undone by Unclean Spirits. [1] E4M2 Juza - If I were a gambling man I'd have had money riding on those killer tomatoes. Welcome aboard! [1] E4M2 DMPhobos - Lived in fear of the shotgun guy; forgot completely the art of fireball dodging. [1] E4M1 leodoom85 - No matter what happens, leo, I like your style. It makes for great Ironman ratings. Now... Into The Grave! [1] E4M1 Jaws In Space - UDTWiD's first demo of any kind. And we are extremely pleased with the results. Thank you, Jaws. [1] E4M1 KVELLER - You are to be commended for this upload. That demo progress bar was speeding along like it wanted a ticket. - What is the Doomworld Ironman League? The DWIronman League is a monthy competition in which participants aim to survive for as many levels as possible in the given map set, preferably in one sitting. Click the spoiler tag below for a detailed list of rules. Players of all levels of ability are welcome. It could change the way you play Doom! In December 2018, The Doomworld Ironman League dies to Ultimate Doom The Way id Did (-complevel 3 (Doom (strict)), an E4 replacement which has just been released from captivity and is probably malnourished and blind in both eyes. A Category 1 hostage situation! How convenient and exciting it is, then, that you too shall (probably) be playing it without any foreknowledge whatsoever. UDTWiD, like its predecessor projects, was made to realize an alternate-universe take on the commercial games through mimicry of the original designers' styles. A few liberties have been taken on this occasion, partly in light of the inconsistencies present in the original DTWiD, but also because having M1 and M2 remain the most difficult maps by the length of the Nile was a fantastic balls-up that we couldn't abide by repeating. There will be dips and troughs, no doubt, but you have been warned! The devil delights in all corners, here. Good luck to all and die well. Potential Game-stoppers and Bugs E4M1 has both an inescapable damaging pit and radsuits. This is intended, but because it occurs early in the WAD and this month's challenge is doubling up as a final test run of sorts, I'm letting you know about it! We want you to die to other things! This is a 2nd release candidate and as such is not the certified final version. Barring any significant bugs, however, all the demos should stand and this will be the version released to /idgames. Feel free to leave an in-depth review of the WAD in the official UDTWiD thread after your playthrough! prboom-plus -file UDTWiD-RC2.wad -deh UDTWiD.deh -complevel 3 -warp -skill 4 -record my_demo Spoiler One attempt per month. Good luck! Demos (PrBoom+, GLBoom, Eternity or Chocolate), stream highlights and single-take video recordings are the only accepted proofs. You must link to these runs in the thread. UV only; no pistol-starting. No additional wads may be loaded. No hard-coded cheats or features that result in behavior beyond what is possible in the intended source port (e.g. freelook, jumping and crouching in a boom set). This includes dynamic lights and brightmaps. If streaming or recording videos using an advanced source port with compatibility options, you must not enable any flags that result in behavior beyond what is possible in the intended source port. In most cases, this will mean that you can comfortably use "Doom/Boom(strict)" behaviour in ZDoom, for example. You must also display these settings on-screen before your run. If you choose to stream your run rather than provide a demo and you die before completing a single level, either on MAP01 of a set or because a single level was selected for the month, you must display the number of monsters killed/remaining in the level before you quit. You do not have to play the secret levels in order to register a complete run. However, a player who finishes the game having completed more secret levels will rank higher than his/her competitors. You cannot load a game having progressed past the save point. You cannot consult Doom Builder during your run to check for map details. If the recording of your official run is interrupted due to technical difficulties, you are not permitted a second attempt. Any surviving recording may be used to register a DNF result. Accidentally restarting a level before a death exit takes you to the tally screen will disqualify your run. You are required to affix one of three numbers to your run informing the League of your degree of familiarity with the map/set played. Note that your evaluation should only take into consideration the content covered in your run (e.g. if you remember only one part of a level in a set you haven't played before but never reach that level, you should list your run as a [1] instead of [2]): This is a blind run. If I have played or watched any of the level/set being played before, I can't remember the details of any one area in a way that would offer an advantage over truly blind players. This is a familiar run. I have played or watched the level/set being played before — even if it's only one area — and can remember enough details to have an advantage over blind players. This is a prepared run. I think you repeated yourself here, Alfonzo. I was confused why there was suddenly a fourth category. I'll be doing my run here SoonTM, but it might be a minute with other things going on at the moment. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted December 2, 2018 Announcement for all demo recorders: if you could name your .lmps beginning with "dwironman," this would be a big help. It isn't mandatory, but it does make the task of getting through a large number of demos in one sitting easier, since I don't need to type fresh characters into the command line constantly. Either prboom+ or my frontend searches for the first 8(?) characters in the file name, so all I'd need to do is drag and drop using the same parameters. Thanks! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jaws In Space Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Died E4M1 Blind Run. Quick edit, changed the name for alfonzo's convenience. Edited December 2, 2018 by Jaws In Space 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Aquila Chrysaetos Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Quick question: will this be treated as if it were multiple wads (that is, one demo per episode), but for a singular attempt (die on E1M7, can't move on to E2, 3, 4)? It's not covered in the rules that I can see, so I figured I should ask. I also understand that a ZDoom 2.8.1 demo wouldn't be accepted, even with the proper compatibility settings? Edited December 2, 2018 by Aquila Chrysaetos 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alfonzo Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Oh, I'm sorry, I made a poor assumption. You will only be playing episode 4. There is no need to load this WAD alongside DTWiD, though that is the intended method for casual play (the dehacked strings also support names and par times for the first three episodes). We already played DTWiD this time last year! 7 minutes ago, Aquila Chrysaetos said: I also understand that a ZDoom 2.8.1 demo wouldn't be accepted, even with the proper compatibility settings? ZDoom demos are currently not supported in DWIL, but they may be in the future depending on whether or not I can find a way around being unable to fast-forward/skip content. The fact that we now have a stable "legacy" version is helpful. Edited December 2, 2018 by Alfonzo ZDoom question. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

SleepyVelvet Posted December 2, 2018 DEAD E4M4 (category 1) I thought I did pretty well on this map... but I went slow and steady on the previous ones, so my time is gonna put my low on the ladder. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
KVELLER Posted December 2, 2018 I don't usually participate in these, but considering I want to play the WAD anyway I might as well. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted December 2, 2018 TWiD series returns eh? Could've sworn this was DTWiD at first lol. I'm probably going to die make my run sometime later today. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NaZa Posted December 2, 2018 Am I back to defend my survival of the first DTWID last December? No. Because I'll go in blind and probably get claimed by The Map which seems to be E4M4 this month. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
WH-Wilou84 Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Congrats on the release, guys. From what I've seen, it's a great wad in the spirit of DTWiD. As expected, it's tough as nails with a lot of Sergents, Barons, low health, and mandatory crossings into lava. The only "non-id" concept I've seen so far is the Baron telefrag sequence on E4M3, which would feel at home in a modern wad (or in a TNT map 02 tribute of some sorts / Final Doom The Way TNT Did). Admittedly, it would have been tedious to kill the Barons the regular way so it probably is better as it is. E4M4 is a tough beast indeed - on Pistol start it's bound to be a nightmare. Fortunately, my stack was pretty high from continuous play (including a handy BFG9000 that saved my life on multiple occasions). E4M5 is no slouch either, heh... Exit was at hand but I decided to try and go for secrets, which led to my demise. Excellent stuff. :) dwironman_UDTWiD-RC2-Ironman-Endoctrined-wh.zip Edited December 2, 2018 by WH-Wilou84 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

NaZa Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) DEAD: E4M3 (damaging floor)CATEGORY: 1 My first Ironman as a 16-er was going so well, I cleared M1 and M2 with relative ease. Then M3 came around, and after setting up I was hit by a Baron and pushed into the nukage and my health quickly deteriorated to 23. Feeling unsafe I kill all of the Barons with guns. Then I entered the teleporter and my brain went like this: hears demon grunt; precautiously walks forward; identifies it as an ordinary demon grunt; turns around while going forward not scared anymore; looks at demon (and maybe shoots?); sees edge of platform briefly; becomes aware that turning happened too late; falls into lava; return 0; Too bad. It sums up my year of Ironmanning well - every run starts extremely well, then one minor things throws me completely off balance and hurts me more than it should, and I lose my brain. Still, I'm satisfied - at this point I'm 11th and it's looking fairly secure so far. By the numbers a step up from last year; by gameplay, eh, not too much. Though, I got a pyrrhic win over Leo to get BirdBowl to 7-4 in his favour. dwironman_dec18_naza.zip Edited December 2, 2018 by NaZa 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

NaZa Posted December 2, 2018 Just completed watching other runs and I found out my run was on such pace that it would have placed very well had I survived E4M3. That just shows how important the factor of mistake is, because you can have the best run ever and die to some stupid reason (like what happens to Ancalagon sometimes, how cruel RNG has been to him), while a person who isn't always a contender but somehow strings together a lucky run against all odds can place well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
