Dark Pulse Posted February 17, 2019 47 minutes ago, TheGamePhilosophe said: We're having this discussion on a site dedicated to a game that came out in 1993. The people looking forward to this WAD are doing so precisely because they have never "moved on." Which is cool. But if it's important to you to be in on the ground floor, so to speak, I don't see why you couldn't just get the free WAD. You yourself have already said the other stuff doesn't really alter the WAD itself. In my mind, all the goodies are essentially collector's items. Meaning they're just as good now as two months from now or two years from now. Because in a way that'd mean that those of us who paid money became second-class citizens for our stuff, compared to the people who paid nothing who still got the WAD for free and "on time." Hence, like I said, while obviously that's what I'd do if it happened, it'd essentially devalue the actual physical package itself down to just a set of feelies, and that would irk me, since I'll have already played the WAD and so on. Personally, if he's going to delay it, I'd hope he polishes it up extra-nice. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
andrewdowell Posted February 17, 2019 Meh, the people that paid money are getting extra stuff. I know it's his decision to release it when he wants, but I'd like it if he'd just release the standard wad now. It's not like games don't get different versions down the road with extra content. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Cacodemon345 Posted February 17, 2019 I am perfectly fine with SIGIL's release being pushed back to April. Like, I don't really want SIGIL to get rushed out in an unfinished state. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

If it was the maps it would turn the current battle debate upside down indeed. But the update leaves little doubt it's about the boxes: Quote There were a few snags in production trying to make sure everything is top-notch for fans! I just wanted to let everyone who purchased either the Big Box or the Beast Box know that it is now looking like it will ship sometime in April. [...] This also means the free version of SIGIL will have to wait until after the boxes are in the hands of customers. Removed the courtesy bit and highlighted a part that's meaningful to your question here. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Manuel-K Posted February 17, 2019 Delaying the wad is IMO one of two possible fair strategies. The other one would be give all buyers access to a download version of the soundtrack like @wheresthebeef mentioned. So I'm okay with this although I would prefer the other option. What I don't get is why people keep suggesting that the music can be downloaded somewhere on the shady areas of the net and why some people like @Nine Inch Heels and @Rimantas keep telling everybody that they are not interested in this. How can you not be interested in this if you care enough to reiterate it for several months? Obviously it's fair game to say you like something else better or to give constructive criticism, but it's simply rude to say something is bad from a simple trailer that does not show enough details to give a fair assessment. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm not hyped (based on what I've seen), but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna have a look. Let's get that right before we throw the mighty "people like X" around in hopes of making a point that's bound to miss the mark to begin with. Also, I never said that sigil is gonna be bad overall, what I did say is that - based on what I've seen - it's probably not for me. Y'know what teaser footage and streams are there for? It's there so people have something to discuss and (assuming they like what they see) look forward to. And yes, discussing also means that "people like me" may show up and say that the material in question *might* not match their tastes. Anyway, next time you try and build a strawman, go find someone who can't even remotely remember what they've been saying a few weeks ago. Speaking of things I said... I distinctly remember saying that if sigil ends up being something I enjoy, then I might consider throwing money at it in some way shape or form. Just to be perfectly clear: Next time you see fit to accuse me of anything, make sure you get your "facts" right, and tell the whole story instead of cherry picking. Besides, I've not seen any suggestions wrt downloading the music somewhere else illegally in this thread. If that was ever suggested here, then either I missed it, or it's been removed already (which is a good thing). 5 hours ago, Manuel-K said: Obviously it's fair game to say you like something else better or to give constructive criticism, but it's simply rude to say something is bad from a simple trailer that does not show enough details to give a fair assessment. And I never passed a final verdict on the entire product in the first place, so what exactly is the problem you're looking to discuss with me? It sure must be something important, because why else would you have mentioned me? I mean aside of making me repeat myself for the umpteenth time, I guess. Hey hold on, apparently it's perfectly fine to say what you think about something, but evidently that's only for people who are hyped and entirely devoid of any and all sorts of reservations regarding Romero's maps. Man I'm so glad we're not having any double standards here, since it would be a real shame if mentioning people because of something they said and explained several weeks ago - "discussions" that were dead and done in the water already - ended up causing yet another derail for this thread. And just to make sure there's something here that's actually on topic: 5 hours ago, Manuel-K said: The other one would be give all buyers access to a download version of the soundtrack like @wheresthebeef mentioned. As soon as you put a link on the internet, you can start counting the seconds until some asshat starts uploading the data to a file hosting service so people can pirate it. It's happened before, it'll happen again, without fail. If you have any interest in making sure that independent artists like Buckethead get at least some of the money they deserve, putting the stuff on the internet is the last thing you will want to do. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
funduke Posted February 17, 2019 (edited) I did not want to have to wait for owning a "Romero's head on a stick" to place it on my table. So i tried what i can do with my lego stuff. I'm still undecided, which one i should choose. I tend to like the right one the most: Long hair, glasses and a smiling face. Romero looks never sad on angry on the photos of him. But that one has no beard. And Romero is never really clean shaved. Perhaps i keep all three of them on my desk until april. Gunstar Green Posted February 18, 2019 I understand why some people would maybe be annoyed if the free wad was released before the thing you paid for, but as someone who paid for it I wouldn't mind. It's no different to me than getting digital early access to a physical pre-order. On the other hand a free project getting delayed is nothing to get annoyed about. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

First row: John Carmack (blonde, glasses, serious face), Adrian Carmack (long hair, face not shaved), John Romero (long hair, glasses, happy face). In the second row, on the long stick that could be Tom Hall). And none of them wears pants. I made also some SIGIL floppy labels. You woud be surprised but it's not the cost of something that factors more on a piracy rate of a product, but it's lack of accessibility. I would know, the copy of Doom i have nowadays is provided legally from such services. Edited February 18, 2019 by JCST 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

A two-month delay is hardly minor after forking over almost $200, especially after the deafening silence so far on a hard shipping date (I was beginning to wonder what was going on a couple weeks ago...) Of course none of this is to blame on Romero, I'm just wondering now if he picked the best company to work with on this project. Limited Run has a pretty solid track record, shit just happens sometimes. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Twitch will automatically delete videos after a couple months so I downloaded them for just such an occasion. Dated December 10, 12, 13, 19, and two on 24th (the first part was interrupted by a phone call he had to take) 19.2 gigs total If someone has an idea for what the best way to archive these videos would be, lemme know. CyberDreams Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) Dammit. I knew i forgot to do something. I was planning on downloading them as well so i could watch them later since i also missed the live streams. Maybe someone has a few idea's for a decent file host or something? Edited February 26, 2019 by CyberDreams missed a word 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomGater Posted February 26, 2019 I am afraid that sigil was never intended to be published to celebrate doom's 25th birthday, but only to bring in some more money for John. It was clever to announce it around the birthday date, but it clearly does not have anything to do with it. Clever businessman, this Mr. Romero... As long as the people keep talking, it's getting more and more famous. That's viral marketing at it's best! I bet sigil will not come out before doom's next birthday ! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
