Not Jabba Posted December 16, 2018 Another year, another mountain of great stuff to play! The bombardment of awesome projects has already begun, so let us know what your favorites are. For those unfamiliar with the "nomination" process, here are some tips... If you play something you find particularly fun, beautiful, clever, or mind blowing... mention it! Post the name and author of a project and a link to its download This thread is merely a place to mention outstanding works of Doom. Keep conversations about projects to a minimum Winners are not chosen by the number of "likes" or the amount of times the project is "nominated" - Judges use the thread to find projects worth playing and decide winners based on personal preferences. Please do not nominate your own project. At the end of each year, there's a grace period to ensure that all releases get fair consideration. In other words, everything released from about mid-November 2018 onwards is up for consideration for the 2019 Cacowards. Happy Dooming! 22 Quote Share this post Link to post
SOSU Posted December 16, 2018 Eviternity even though it came out this year 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
leodoom85 Posted December 16, 2018 I have 3 mapsets to nominate for now. Eviternity, of course Refracted Reality (former Infinite Void, coming soon) Spooktober Community Project 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
FrancisT218 Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) +++Eviternity +++Ozonia +++Bury My Heart Knee Deep (2018 snub, but RC3 came out this month, and final version is not out yet - so it should still be eligible for a secomd chance!) +++SIGIIL (in advance, yeah) Cacoward years usually begin ~November 10 IIRC, especially for larger projects, though I don't think the date is 'fixed' (except that it cannot be later than December 10). For example Alfonzone was released in November 2017 but got runner up in 2018. Also you probably want to pin this (and unpin 2018 which has been closed anyways). Is OTEX eligible for some kind of award? Like 'best resource wad' Edited December 16, 2018 by FrancisT18 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted December 16, 2018 Let's be blunt, SIGIL is probably a shoo-in. We'll need to actually play it for sure, but it's almost certainly worth mentioning. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Loud Silence Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) Eviternity and Deathless. Edited December 17, 2018 by Rimantas 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kroc Posted December 16, 2018 If SIGIL is as good as Romero's Knee Deep In The Dead (E1 + E1M4B/E1M8B), then you're going to have to break the glass on the emergency 11th Cacoward golden Caco trophy. I wonder if he's going to get the hell theme right since he only did tech-bases before. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Master O Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) SIGIL raises an interesting question: When one of Doom's creators releases a Doom wad or megawad, is it automatically going to get a Cacoward, because they're the game's creators? Also, on an unrelated note, we should give an Anti-Cacoward to Dragonfly whenever he eventually releases a bad map. (joking) Edited December 16, 2018 by Master O 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

DMPhobos Posted December 17, 2018 +++Eviternity I also feel ukiro deserves some mention for otex since it's a really fantastic and versatile texture pack 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
GarrettChan Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) +++Eviternity BTW, I really want a signature from Dragonfly ;P Edited December 17, 2018 by GarrettChan 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Traysandor Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) 1 hour ago, Master O said: SIGIL raises an interesting question: When one of Doom's creators releases a Doom wad or megawad, is it automatically going to get a Cacoward, because they're the game's creators? Not necessarily. Just because you (as the game's creator) release a new map pack for a 25-year old game, it does not automatically award you with the shiny golden trophy. 2019 hasn't even begun yet, and we don't konw what other epic gems next year will bring us. So we should probably wait until... At least November next year, by then we'll know whether or not Romero will be enshrined once again in Doomworld Golden Trophy Fame. At the very least, let's see how the rest of the SIGIL mapset looks before making a determination like that. Sure, we all know Romero still knows what he's doing and how to kick our asses in vanilla-compatible maps, but time will tell. elend Posted December 17, 2018 OTEX. When soundtracks and gameplay mods appear in the awards, I don't see why OTEX shouldn't. The amount of care and work that went into this is just staggering imho and the end result speaks for itself of course. 15 Quote Share this post Link to post
FrancisT218 Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) OTEX absolutely should get something. But I'd be sad to see it just be one of the ten main awards because those belong to projects containing maps IMO. Also: +++Deathless (similar to Doom 404; as good or better) +++Order of the Odonata Quite a few 2018 snubs (that have been updated or released within the 'grace period') up for nomination already, few if any likely to win. But OTOH when you can think of five wads to nominate six weeks into the year that is certainly not a bad thing. :) Edited December 17, 2018 by FrancisT18 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted December 17, 2018 Ola Björling for Creator of the Year -- OTEX is a monumental achievement. Gonna also mentionate Dragonfly for the same, 'cause he's done a fucking fantastic job at spearheading and managing Eviternity (and wranglin' all of us goofy guest-folks), not to mention whipping up like 80% of the maps in the 9 or so months since the project was concieved. [Post-disclaimer: might be a bit of bias since I'm involved in the project, but I had to get it out of my system.] 18 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Meanor Posted December 17, 2018 +++Eviternity project led by @Dragonfly +++Deathless by @Jimmy because he made a full 36 map megawad for Ultimate Doom in 9 days. 9 DAYS! 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted December 17, 2018 Another mention: Jimmy for the Espi. Klem and Shaw may be the grandfathers of the Doom music scene, but Jimmy's the one who carried the torch into the 21st century and has kept it burning brightly to this very day. Then you've got his extensive mapping career on top of it, including Adventures of Square, Deathless (holy shit), Jenesis, and a zillion things between. It's like a pair of one-two knockout punches, which is even more impressive (metaphorically and realistically) when you consider just how friggin' fast he can churn out top-notch work. Basically, he's Mark Klem and Erik Alm. How cool is that? 28 Quote Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted December 17, 2018 I'll just say right now as the publisher of Doomworld, so that no one has to argue about it: John Romero already has a Cacoward, and we certainly all know who he is, and he's not going to be getting an "automatic" 2019 Cacoward for Sigil. I am pretty sure we won't forget to mention him in any event, but the impact of Sigil will be considered with as little bias as possible, in appropriate context alongside the impact of everything else in 2019. 41 Quote Share this post Link to post
antares031 Posted December 17, 2018 +++ @ukiro for Creator of the year. OTEX definitely deserves something like that. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Beezle Posted December 17, 2018 I strongly agree about Jimmy being mentioned for Espi award, the man has cranked out a ridiculous amount of maps over the years, and damn good ones too. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dragonfly Posted December 17, 2018 +++ Jimmy for Espi Award +++ Ukiro for Creator of the Year +++ OTEX for Cacoward / mention at the very least 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Yugiboy85 Posted December 17, 2018 Honestly, im not gonna nominate eviternity, it doesn't deserve all the prais...who am i kidding? +++eviternity of course. Fantastic mapset from dragonfly and all the wonderful people involved. Fantastic work by ukiro too for his phenomenal texture pack. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
FrancisT218 Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) +++Jimmy for Espi. He even went through a most devastating friend loss, and his output hardly seemed to suffer for long. +++Ukiro for Creator, with OTEX mentioned +++UDTWID for Caco AND for Mordeth (of course later is subject to change....) Edited December 17, 2018 by FrancisT18 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Deadwing Posted December 17, 2018 I also support Jimmy for Espi and Evilternity for Caco :D 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Terminus Posted December 17, 2018 Eviternity without any shred of doubt. Jimmy winning an Espi is something I can see happening, and it is well deserved too, for all the reasons Xaser has already mentioned. OTEX should definitely win something. That texture set is a work of art. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
