Doomkid Posted January 20, 2019 Just for fun, I decided to make a vanilla-compatible compilation of all the Doom64 sprites and sound effects! There are no behavioral changes, just graphical. Loading this alongside Doom64 for Doom2 results in a bootleg "port" of Doom64 to DOS, which is just hilarious and amazing to me for some reason. Most of the heavy lifting was already done by others, I just compiled resources from existing Doom64 materials that are floating around out there. I cleaned up a few sprites and overall made a few minor changes just so everything felt more cohesive (resizing, recoloring, etc.) DOWNLOADS MIRROR 1: https://www.mediafire.com/file/nnll6pjy4vgly50/D64GFX%21.zip/file MIRROR 2: http://doomshack.org/wads/d64-gfx.zip Credits: Midway - Doom 64 Kaiser - Doom 64 EX / sprite ripping & resizing Footman - SS nazi sprite / Mastermind sprite Amuscaria - Revenant Sprite Blastfrog - Archvile attack sound DrDoctor - Lots of decoration sprites Horror Movie Guy - Compilation / the 'live stick' sprite Doomkid - Sprite touch ups / compilation / conversion to vanilla format If you find any issues with this, please let me know. Otherwise it appears to function perfectly in all ports. Naturally, since only graphics and sounds are replaced, this will not effect demo compatibility at all. There are some small visual oddities as a result of the Doom64 monsters sometimes behaving differently but there's not much I can do about that beyond a dehacked patch, which I did not want to use. Enjoy! 44 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted January 20, 2019 Time for everyone to enjoy getting confused as to if that former human is a Zombieman or a Shotgun Guy. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted January 20, 2019 The use for the Motherdemon for the Arch-Vile is an odd choice, plus I find it a bit large heightwise. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted January 20, 2019 (edited) I agree, but really wasn't sure what to replace it with - The default Doom2 archie would feel so out of place among this crew I think. I'm also considering some way to make the zombiemen more distinct, perhaps a more stark difference in their colors will do it Edited January 20, 2019 by Doomkid 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Beezle Posted January 20, 2019 So this was made with Doom 64 For Doom II on DosBox or Boom in mind? Other than some of the sprites being a little low res and the shotgunners and zombiemen looking so much alike, great job, actually works really well with D64 for Doom II:) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted January 20, 2019 Great suggestion. And yes Beezle, this was designed with DOS compatibility in mind! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted January 20, 2019 Yep, it should run in pretty much everything! It even works in Doom95 which to me says it should work everywhere. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted January 20, 2019 Yes! (lol no) There would be something really funny about playing what started as an N64 game ported all the way down to Atari 2600 though.. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheNoob_Gamer Posted January 20, 2019 So will the Unmaker included? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted January 20, 2019 1 minute ago, TheNoob_Gamer said: So will the Unmaker included? I think that'd be pretty tricky without an advanced source port... I mean, what weapons could be replaced? Not to mention the altered functionality of the Unmaker via the Demon Keys. But there's a reason he said it's a bootleg version. Think of it like the Chinese hackers removing the company credits from the title screen. :) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Loud Silence Posted January 20, 2019 @Doomkid Can you make HUD with that crazy cool guy's face in your avatar? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
fraggle Posted January 20, 2019 Could you add some screenshots? Very curious to see. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
SiFi270 Posted January 20, 2019 (edited) I was going to get you a screenshot that also demonstrates that this really works with any port, but then the port in question gave me this nonsense: Spoiler So it's a good thing I had a backup plan! Here you go. Spoiler I think this is the moment that finally allowed me to truly appreciate Master Edition's existence. Edited January 20, 2019 by SiFi270 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted January 20, 2019 Holy crap, running a mod that turns the enemies into the Doom64 versions in Doom64 EX is way too meta for me, lol. Thanks for the screenshot! What port were you using there that actually allowed it to run? 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
FearTheReaper Posted January 20, 2019 I don't think this is intended but on some ports nukage barrels are jammin' jamming like crazy. barrelloni all the way. ;p 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SOSU Posted January 21, 2019 Now we just need a wad that replaces the vanilla textures with the Doom 64 ones and we can play Doom 64 inside Doom 2 >:D (for the 5th time) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted January 21, 2019 FearTheReaper lmfao that is definitely not intended, which port is doing that? It’s pretty hilarious though! SOSU That would actually be awesome, you could play most custom wads in a full Doom64-like style that way. Too much work for me but I like the idea a lot 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

A Nobody Posted January 24, 2019 Well you can play Doom 64 for Doom 2 with the Doom 64 weapons only mod by Nevander. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jayextee Posted January 24, 2019 Next up: a texture pack that replaces only the patches in such a manner that any WADs using non-custom textures will look like they're new Doom 64 levels. Please. :P 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
