Any wads that play like the ultima series of rpg's (apart from hacx)?

See, you say "apart from Hacx" but Hacx is nothing like Ultima at all, so it's impossible to know what it is you're asking for.

Ok, anything like Ultima.  Searching whole text files on idgames didn't bring anything up.

Pretty sure there are no top -down or isometric RPG Doom mods.

 

There is DRL, which is based on Doom but uses its own engine: https://drl.chaosforge.org

 

If you just want a fantasy flavour, you're better off with Heretic and Hexen.

The Ultima games are role-playing games. It's important to note that, despite the familiar artifice of statistics and levels inherited from tabletop games like D&D, role-playing is at its core about playing a role, like in theater. In the Ultima games, since Ultima 4, the role you play is that of the Avatar, an incarnation of the eight virtues (honesty, compassion, valor, justice, sacrifice, honor, spirituality, humility) and three principles (truth, love, and courage). The game encourage you to play a good guy. And this is done by tracking how you interact with people; whether you lie, steal, etc.

 

All these things are utterly irrelevant in Doom, which is an action game where you shoot demons. No inventory management, no puzzles, no spiritual quests, no friendly NPCs with which to converse and barter, etc.

Wrath of Cronos might fit the bill.  I never played it, but I have heard (read) a lot about it.  It is not only for Hexen, but also Doom and Heretic.

I think he means that part where you go inside the computer, that DEFINITELY happens in ultima

If you want a Doom-engine RPG, you could try Inquisitor 3 or Serpent: Resurrection. Neither of them are anything like Ultima, though -- much closer to Diablo.

 

There's also Raven Crypt, which does a pretty good job of emulating the feel of classic dungeon crawlers like Lands of Lore and Ultima Underworld, but doesn't have any RPG elements.
