Apparently, the black sky was supposed to be an eternity engine portal, but he had issues. So I gather the buildings are supposed to be taller. Those are from a 'map doodle' sprung around the initial test map for moving usuable subways, and then expanded on to experiment with an urban setting. The upper portals simply weren't implemented yet. It's eventually going to end up as a map for E4; while the subway is used in E2. 17 Quote Share this post Link to post

When you say usable subway...you mean like...moving train cars and all? Because that would be epic. (Also, don't mean to junk up the BTSX 3 thread with unrelated conversation, but I'm interested) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yes, that's what you can do when you attach a portal on a polyobject. The polyobject moves, and the portal moves with it. There are still limitations to what you can do with the system (you need to hide the floor and ceiling) but it's a pretty nice effect for the Doom engine. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted February 18, 2019 Moved the (accidental) derailment of BTSX E3 thread to new thread. 1 hour ago, guitardz said: When you say usable subway...you mean like...moving train cars and all? Because that would be epic You can see the train arriving. Doors open, you enter. Door closes, the train leaves the station. You can see it dwindling in the distance; the next station approaching. Try not to get eaten by zombies while you gawk. Doors open, and you've arrived at a different station on the other side of the same map. It does return trips. A schedule at your platform informs you with a running clock when the next train arrives. 1 hour ago, Gez said: Yes, that's what you can do when you attach a portal on a polyobject. The polyobject moves, and the portal moves with it. No moving polyobject-portal used. This predates it by years. It even predates the inclusion of (workable) ACS in Eternity, with the movement of the train controlled by Boom scrollers. I've described the technique here before: a set of non-Euclidean linked portals, (un)masked by anchored portals, both for station as the subway tunnel. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post

VanaheimRanger Posted February 18, 2019 (edited) Well, it happened, I made DW history...only time will tell whether that was a good or bad thing ;) ...we will probably find out when this thread is ACTUAL history. I wonder if we should take this thread as an announcement of some kind. Edited February 18, 2019 by guitardz 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
