⇛Marnetmar⇛ Posted March 5, 2019 Post your absolutely most very obviously true Doom facts in this thread Did you know John Romero designed levels for the Bethesda game "Doom"? 17 Quote Share this post Link to post

That kinda explains why now he works on Oculus Rift and, I suppose, loves VR. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
SirJuicyLemon Posted March 5, 2019 In Doom 2, to win the game you must kill John Romero. 27 Quote Share this post Link to post
geo Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) * cracks knuckles * While we're telling truths facts... - iD is the most popular shovelware company to strike gold. Releasing 10 games in 1991. - Doom 2 was made as an expansion pack to Doom 1, but no one bought Doom 1 since they gave the game away for free. - In protest of Doom being forced to use green blood in the SNES port, iD created Super Noah's Ark 3D. Thus sticking it to the man. - Doom was supposed to be a NFL licensed game, but someone (looking at John Romero) thought the game would be better with guns and NFL backed out. - To hype Doom 1, Tom Hall wanted to distribute bibles to churches hoping priests would hate Doom and speak out against it during Sunday mass, thus creating hype and buzz about the game. - Michael Jackson wrote the soundtrack for Doom, but after reading the fine print of the contract that MJ's lawyer wanted 99.9% of all income before profits, the team went with ripping off rock and metal songs as they were too poor to sue or do anything about it. - The level Nirvana in Doom 2 references Sound Garden as Chris Cornell was an avid hunter. - iD made Super Mario Bros 3 as a weekend project before they sent it to Nintendo who then published it without consent. John Carmack is quoted as saying "I wish they didn't do that." - The Game Boy port of Doom 1 was said to be too good and would ruin the need to get the much more expensive 3DO port. - Doom 2 was released on the GBA, but only 2 copies were made, making it so rare that most people don't know it exists in a physical copy. Pegleg Posted March 5, 2019 One of the reasons iD abandoned the blatantly episodic format (ExMy) of Doom 1 in favor of the continuous format (Mapxy) of Doom 2 is because there were a number of people that stopped playing Doom after Knee Deep in the Dead, figuring the game was over. 39 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tristan Posted March 5, 2019 Rarely, disaster can occur in the TNT level "Wormhole," in which a node builder error causes the titular wormhole to send Doomguy to a dimension where Doom never existed because John Romero was busy making everyone bitch lasagna in his massively successful video game "Animal Crossing." As a result, the game implodes on itself taking the entire fabric of reality with it. 41 Quote Share this post Link to post

GZDoom fixes this bug, but most vanilla diehards are really annoyed that the port changes that behavior. 50 Quote Share this post Link to post
Snikle Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) -The sprites of the Pain Elemental were made by adding a recolored blursphere, demon arms, and a mouth to a picture of John Romero's turd. He ate Mexican food the night before, which inspired the PE's little salsa-dancin' movements. - @Ribbiks is actually Sandy Petersen -The Arch-vile's dying noise is the wail that came from Romero when he read Daikatana's sales report -TeamTNT still exists, and they rock out to "into beasts belly" every day! -Insider information suggests that "Sunlust II - Petersen and McGee make you their bitches... again!" will release this year, overshadowing BTSX E3, Sunder, and SIGIL Edited March 5, 2019 by Snikle 22 Quote Share this post Link to post

In fairness, last time I tried that map in GZDoom I ended up in a reality where every other living thing was Ugandan Knuckles so I'm actually with the vanilla purists on this occasion. 14 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xyzzу Posted March 5, 2019 -iD ditched the random sound pitches that were originally present in Doom because they thought it sounded dumb. -The iD guys wanted Doom to be a step above Wolfenstein in every way possible, so to top the random fart sound effect found in that game they implemented the random "radsuit leak" to troll players. -iD Software is composed of satanists and Doom was their medium to propagate their beliefs through. -Heretic invented the revenant. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post

Except for Sandy Petersen, who is Christian but he was going to win money so he accepted. This is why his levels look like garbage, he never cared except for the money! Lila Feuer Posted March 5, 2019 Everybody knows Tim Willits was the original creator, engine maker, composer, and only mapper for Doom 1 and 2. He also invented deathmatch. 21 Quote Share this post Link to post
DefilerPhil47 Posted March 5, 2019 John Carmack and Andrian Carmack were twin brothers separated at birth and the creation of id software brought them back together. 31 Quote Share this post Link to post

Bauul Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) In the Spawning Vats, which is level 7 of the original Doom, there is a table with playing cards on that was left over from when the game originally began with four marines playing cards against each other. If anyone doubts this absolutely true fact, Eurogamer confirmed it in a clearly very well researched article in 2013. Edited March 5, 2019 by Bauul 13 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheNoob_Gamer Posted March 5, 2019 John Romero makes very few Doom 2 maps, but his Doom 2 maps are iconic. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gunstar Green Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) The original release of Doom caused serious religious controversy due to its blasphemous depictions of demons and hell in a video game that would be played by children. Satanists were disgusted by the callous murder of innocent demons. They also felt the depictions of hell were "not traumatizing enough." The Satanists reportedly settled their lawsuit after being promised a new fourth episode that would cause sufficient emotional damage to its victims. SiFi270 Posted March 5, 2019 Doom 3 used a real animatronic shark to scare players, but Tim Willits didn't like how it looked so he turned down the game's brightness so that no one would see it. The animatronic was later repurposed into a costume that Karl Urban would wear in the Doom movie to show the effects that C24 was having on him. When Tim Willits visited the set, he was furious, and demanded that all subsequent scenes be filmed from Urban's point of view so that no one would realize. Tom Hall has a rare condition where, when asked multiple questions at once, instead of answering them one at a time he'll just settle on "Doomguy is definitely Commander Keen's son, no room for misinterpretation here." As a consequence, nobody has been able to confirm that he named the Doom Bible's Unmaker after the weapon Rebecca Heineman was adding to the SNES and Macintosh ports at the time. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
joepallai Posted March 5, 2019 id Software was secretly funded by DARPA in order to softly release the facts behind the Montouk Project in the guise of a video game. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted March 5, 2019 A few major metal bands, including Metallica and Pantera was inspired by Doom's soundtrack and produced hits. Despite the major similarities to Bobby Prince the creator of Doom OST's soundtrack, ID Software humbly decided not to take action. 41 Quote Share this post Link to post

HorrorMovieRei Posted March 5, 2019 -Id software felt bad for how many people worldwide were deathmatching instead of working and decided to add the super shotgun to the game so it could outclass every other weapon and make deathmatch stale and monotonous -The design of the cacodemon is based on a picture from a sex magazine owned by Romero, which featured a red ballgag in it's cover -Tom Hall left Id software because Doom wasn't living up to his standards. He has come on record saying that "it needed dismemberment and finishing moves" 11 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rampy470 Posted March 5, 2019 The Arch-vile's attacks are not actually harmful; the damage taken is simply Doomguy shitting his space armor thinking of all the horrible pain it looks like it could cause. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post
