UnknDoomer Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) Quote When John Carmack was testing out his VR headset, he told the following famous words right after taking off the headset to everyone who happened to be present. Later, at same day he added: "Watching porn movie with your girlfriend is like playing Doom in cooperative mode - double amusement". coderamen Posted September 20, 2023 Carmack is single handedly the smartest programmer to have ever lived, and Doom is the greatest video game of all time, unable to be dethroned from its seat. Bethesda is temporary. Doom is... ETERNAL!!! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheMagicMushroomMan Posted September 20, 2023 John Carmack is a talented guy but also kind of a narcissist. Doom was the greatest video game of all time until Doom 2 was released. Doom is temporary and Doomworld will eventually be hit with C&D orders, but Bethesda is... ETERNAL and Skyrim will never stop being re-released. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr Masker Posted September 20, 2023 (edited) John Carmack used to infamously pour boiling hot milk on the skulls of ID Developers if they didn't type fast enough. This gave him the nickname, John Carmilk Edited September 20, 2023 by Mr Masker 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maximum Matt Posted September 21, 2023 Return Of The Mack was also written about him as a tribute to Doom II 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Panzermann11 Posted September 21, 2023 (edited) Did you know why Dr. Victor von Doom from Marvel was named like that? That's because he's a huge fan of Doom. Edited September 21, 2023 by Panzermann11 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

UnknDoomer Posted September 23, 2023 (edited) If you will write "I Own Doom!" difficulty from Doom 64 as "IOD" and then translate it "indirectly" on russian then it will sounds like "ЙОД", which is IODINE on english: Quote The halogens darken in colour as the group is descended: fluorine is a very pale yellow, chlorine is greenish-yellow, bromine is reddish-brown, and iodine is violet. Also. In this article it's looks like a flask from Heretic / Hexen series, while other coloring fit into 64's color scheme. UnknDoomer Posted December 10, 2023 (edited) Many newcomers often ask about rules on doomworld, due to a fact they cannot find a specific section about it. Not many known or remember, but back in the ancient times the was one and it contain such agreement: Quote Welcome to the abandoned land Come on in child, take my hand Here there's no work or play, only one bill to pay There's just five words to say as you go Down, down, down You're gonna burn in hell Oh, burn in hell Take a good look in your heart, tell me what do you see It's black and it's dark, now is that how you want it to be? It's up to you, what you do will decide your own fate Make your choice now for tomorrow may be far too late And then you'll burn in hell Hear no evil, don't you See no evil, don't you (oh, burn in hell) Lay no evil down on me (you're gonna burn in hell) Speak no evil, don't you Think no evil, don't you (oh, burn in hell) Play with evil, 'cause I'm free But so many of them didn't listen to it in proper way... so there is no more. Still, some rumors says that "post hell" is still somewhere out there, in the old backups. So, perhaps, one day it will return... BTW. New version of the Voxel Doom is coming, it seems. Quill Posted December 20, 2023 You can actually chop down a BSP tree by repeatedly hitting a wall with your fist. After it's done, you get BSP logs that you can craft into 4 BSP planks. Then you can craft those into a BSP crafting table. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Agent Strange Posted December 21, 2023 (edited) Many people falsely attribute the Aliens franchise on having a big influence on Doom. John Romero clarified in his newly published autobiography that the Star Wars Holiday Special had the biggest impact on the team when they were working in Shreveport, Louisiana. Accidental exposure to Louisiana swamp water and Tom Hall's third eye are to blame. Edited December 22, 2023 by Agent Strange 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Donowa Posted January 20 The inspiration for the back muscles on the "Pinky" Demon and Baron of Hell came from John Romero, whose muscular back was a common source of comedy around the office. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Individualised Posted January 22 (edited) Tom Hall, the resident "music guy" at id Software, originally wanted to put a cover of We Die Young by Pantera (from their album The Downward Spiral) in Final Doom (later released as Quake 2), but couldn't due to copyright issues, so he instead used the percussion track for "Into Sandy's City", and hid a cover of Them Bones from the same album in the game as revenge against the copyright system. SiFi270 Posted January 25 Doom's source code was leaked in 2004*. Fans eventually used it to make a PC port that, despite id's best efforts, is the most popular way of playing Doom to this day. *i couldn't decide what year or even decade would be funniest for my stupid pointless lie :( 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr Masker Posted January 25 On January 6th 2027, all Doom wads will stop working. The Doom Social Experiment will be closed, and the collected data will be used for all future Commander Keen entries. Thank you all for participating! :) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Guff dotD Posted February 24 The creators of Eviternity II have a roadmap for future Eviternity Releases. First, there will be "The End of Eviternity". Then, there will be three 'rebuild wads', ranging from 1.0 to 3.0, that will be released over the span of 15 or so years. These rebuild wads will be titled as follows: "Eviternity + 1.0: You are (not) a Doomer", "Eviternity + 2.0: You are (not) pistol-start UV-maxxing" and "Eviternity + 3.0: You are (not) going to win the game by killing me, John Romero". 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
