Dark Pulse Posted March 12, 2019 (edited) Device Manager should be able to, but in practice, I doubt you have it. That said, even a cheap GPU is more than enough for GZDoom, even if it's a somewhat old card. As long as you don't intend to play a bunch of modern games on super-high settings, you can get a GeForce 1050 for like $180. Third-party models go even lower, some as low as $130 or so. And they don't need any more power than what is provided by the PCI-e slot, so as long as your power supply isn't rinky-dink, that should do the bill nicely. Alternatively, your best bet would be to update your GPU drivers. Try here and see what you get. Maybe it will give you better OpenGL support, but if not, you will need to buy a physical GPU to do it. Edited March 12, 2019 by Dark Pulse 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

From the software side of things, hit the Windows key and type "Device Manager". Load the Device Manager, and look under the entry called "Display Adapters". If "Intel(R) HD Graphics 2000" is all it lists, then you likely don't have a dedicated GPU. Alternatively, if you want to be totally sure, open the case and have a look. A dedicated GPU will be a card slotted in down at the bottom of the motherboard, likely quite a big one with dedicated fans on it. If you look at the back of the card (the bit that you can see from the back of the case), it'll have ports for monitors (likely a VGA or DVI port at the very least). If it doesn't have one, it unfortunately sounds like you've got yourself a PC that was never designed for games. It'll barely run anything, let alone GZDoom. As Dark Pulse suggests, a cheap second hand GPU from the era your PC is from will do a world of good without breaking the bank. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

However ZDoom32 will be faster on that hardware but it's an older version and won't run recent mods. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pleasure Elemental Posted March 15, 2019 OK well it's a crummy PC but I can just about use one of the older GZdoom ports, if anyone knows how I can get rid of the white arrow/cursor which appears in the middle of the screen when I run it? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Set it to run in fullscreen by default, or failing that, Alt-Enter a few times to go in and out of fullscreen. Alternatively, just run it in a window and maximize it, and set it to capture the mouse (should be in the settings somewhere). As for GZDoom, assuming you're not running the Vintage builds, you should try for a version as recent as is possible (but note you will already have issues with some mods/maps that make use of functionality newer than is in current GZDoom). I believe the last version that was not split off was either 3.2.1, 3.3.0, or 3.4.1. Long-term solution would definitely be to get a cheap GPU, or possibly a newer CPU. If your motherboard is capable of holding an Ivy Bridge CPU that has Intel HD Graphics 4000, that supports up to OpenGL 4 and so would run current GZDoom builds just fine. Those CPUs would be a handful of models, but in practice, you'd only really want to look at two - the i5-3570K, and the i7-3770k. The problem is, of course, if your motherboard can handle it or not. Some can, some can't. The surefire (but most expensive) option, of course, is an entirely new, more modern PC. But a cheap GPU would solve the problem just as well for less money. It is extremely outdated. Skulltag's development stopped around 2010 and most modern mods won't work on it. Zandronum is the continuation of Skulltag. https://zandronum.com/ Edited March 15, 2019 by ReaperAA 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
