There is no platform in front of the Icon of Sin, so there's no way for the player to actually elevate themselves and fire a rocket. And if you can't kill John Romero, you can't win the game. Even when that platform is fully lowered you can still see the texture in the toxic sludge. In the picture, it doesn't exist.

Hopefully the boss speach's is a garbled, reversed recording of "to win the game you must use a source port with vertical mouse aiming, hahaha!"

I doubt it. When I get to MAP30 while playing on Zandronum, I cheat by mouse-aiming and killing the boss that way. I still noticed the missing platform.
