VGA Posted October 7, 2020 Playtest is open in Steam! I applied and got accepted, downloaded and played the beta mini-campaign, it is Brutal Doom inspired gameplay with aesthetics and music inspired from Doom 3 and Doom 2016. Nice movement and aiming mechanics IMO. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

[McD] James Posted October 7, 2020 This game looks awesome. I think multiplayer would be a lot of fun here, as well. Is it going to have multiplayer? The Steam page doesn't say anything about multiplayer, but a couple of articles I've read said that it will be included on launch. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted October 7, 2020 (edited) Looks promising, especially with the editor. Definitely gives me a little bit of Brutal Doom cross with all of Doom series vibe. Edited October 7, 2020 by Chezza 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

holaareola Posted October 8, 2020 Looking forward to this so much, I'll clear some time for sure. Of all the retro-shooters, I think this one looks like it nails feel the most. The videos I've seen look so much fun, fast movement with lots of air control, punchy weapons and more incidental combat than arena lock-ins. Great visuals too, I like the Doom3 design style a lot, and I find this very reminiscent but with larger spaces and awesome weapon and impact effects. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted October 8, 2020 My hype levels have reached Critical Mass for Prodeus. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It won't be present in early access though, the priority is to have a good game as the foundation. :) Regarding performance, if anyone has any issues the go-to change is turning off SSAO and SSR, as these are purely cosmetic but have a large performance impact. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
taufan99 Posted October 13, 2020 (edited) Finally got my request accepted! Just tested it quite a lot for almost an hour. Perhaps due to my potato of a device, almost everything takes forever to load, but once it does play, oh do I love it quite much. Glad to have applied and finally received the invitation. Biodegradable Posted October 15, 2020 My request got accepted too! Here's my playthrough: Everything felt smooth, load times were minimal, progression is straightforward, combat is solid, everything looks amazing. The opening map is very short and lame, but the main map of the Beta is great fun and the time trial target thing you can also have a go at is neat and will no doubt be enjoyed by speedrunners. I'm so damn hyped, I can't stand it! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrFlibble Posted October 15, 2020 Earlier I watched Civvie's playthrough/review of a beta release, all looks rather nice but is there/will there be an option to turn off ludicrous amounts of ketchup on the screen? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

wallabra Posted October 16, 2020 It all looks good! I give it a 99/100. Where's the mustard? :D 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Touchdown Posted October 17, 2020 I got into the Beta as well and made a video about it. Overally I'm enjoying it so far and can't wait for the full release. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
VGA Posted October 17, 2020 (edited) @Touchdown Duke Nukem 3D's jumping is floaty as fuck and the physics are WONKY! We have the exact opposite opinion, I guess :D I like Blood's jumping physics a bit more. And Quake's jumping physics even better. It has been several days since I did the playthrough of the Prodeus mini campaign but I think it was close to Quake jumping, right? EDIT: I do agree that gore should be analogous to the damage dealt. Touchdown Posted October 18, 2020 Ha! People having polar opposite opinions of mine is nothing new for me. ;P I've just launched Q1 and Blood for comparison. Yeah, I guess Prodeus is very close to Quake actually, now that I compared them directly. Personally I just prefer the faster / sharper jumping in Duke3D where it feels like you're hitting the ground with more force. Maybe that's what feels right to me, a more impactful landing? Because I totally do not like jumping in Blood where it feels like you're landing on a cushion (same thing that I didn't like in Dishonored). I don't know, SOMETHING feels better for me in Duke3d. As a player I can only look at an example and try to figure out what feels right and what doesn't. As of right now I'd say that for me it's probably about sharp/quick "ascension" and impactful landing. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
VGA Posted October 19, 2020 Duke's jumping has sharp acceleration upwards and then downwards. It may be more "realistic" but having a more linear jump makes things smoother. Like Blood's jumping. You don't like it because there isn't enough of an impact and it's like landing on a cushion but it's ... smoother that way. Quake's jumping allows for more skillful play because of its momentum and limited air control. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

D4NUK1 Posted November 9, 2020 (edited) Some friend gift me they second key lol. Man, this part of Prodeus really make you pump lead. Also Ligthing and level desing are really <3 Edited November 10, 2020 by jamondemarnatural 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
hybridial Posted November 10, 2020 I decided to get it, and played the first two levels. Compared to the Alpha, it's definitely much more polished. And I think its pretty great from what I've played and its another quality addition to the genre. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted November 10, 2020 Prodeus is a product clearly made by folks that know what a retro fps should do correctly. Game also goes to consoles if sold well enough. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted November 10, 2020 It's glorious, you guys! I had to make something to celebrate. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
smeghammer Posted November 26, 2020 So i just installed this... only played about 10 minutes so far. It certainly is glorious as @Biodegradable says. I'll give it a proper go when my kids are in bed... Seems to need quite beefy hardware though - It's struggling on my Dell i7 with 16gb RAM. I dropped the screen res and still choppy. Any suggestions for other tweaks to improve? It'll certainly run on my A51 but I can't play while watching telly on that...😠 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Turns out it defaults to fullscreen windowed rather than fullscreen exclusive which is a bit annoying. Much better on properly fullscreen. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
