DooM_RO Posted April 1, 2019 (edited) @Jimmy So I found this on the Doom Twitter. Is this...a Joy of Mapping reference? It even has the afro! If it is, has someone from Id secretly participated in recent sessions?? Edited April 1, 2019 by DooM_RO 17 Quote Share this post Link to post
SiFi270 Posted April 1, 2019 id noticed that people were more excited about Jimmy's involvement in Sigil than Romero's, and they wanted in on that. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
CyberDreams Posted April 1, 2019 Haha! More than likely it's just a reference to Bob Ross and "The Joy of Painting". After all, that is what "The Joy of Mapping" series is a reference to ;) It would be neat if it was related to Jimmy and the Doom community as well though. Who knows? Might just be an April fools thing as well. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

Suitepee Posted April 1, 2019 Well The Joy of Mapping 7 has its titlepic sorted then. ;) 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted April 1, 2019 I didn't know about Bob Ross...The more you know. It would be a perfect intermission screen. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted April 1, 2019 (edited) Kinsie's joke TITLEPIC for The Joy of Mapping 1, the character from which having now endured for five more JoM installments, has clearly left an impression on the community at large which is not dying any time soon. Dark Pulse Posted April 1, 2019 Definitely a Joy of Painting reference. But still pretty nice. "Here we just spray happy little splats. There's no mistakes, only drippy accidents." 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Novaseer Posted April 1, 2019 They clearly got a professional artist to do this - and that scares me. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
XLightningStormL Posted April 1, 2019 And now we're going to slaughter a happy little Imp right here, and that'll be our little secret. And if you tell anyone if that little imp was slaughtered, I will come to your archive, and delete your NM 100% Plutonia Demo! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dark Pulse Posted April 2, 2019 (edited) 47 minutes ago, Novaseer said: Yes, but... why put in so much effort for an April Fools' joke? Why not? Plenty of studios do jokes that are actually a pretty good effort. A mobile game I play for example (Granblue Fantasy) has an event that runs only for 24 hours. Exactly 24 hours. Every single April Fools' Day. And it turns this character... Spoiler ... into this character. Spoiler Can instantly TPK your entire team at his 60% and 5% triggers if you don't set yourself up defensively for it. Hardest version's difficulty (the one being fought in this video) is charmingly called "Blackhole" and he has 300 Million HP, making him endgame-tier difficulty. (Yes, there are stronger bosses, but he's about halfway up the chain of what's called HL/Impossible content - normally only accessible to Rank 101+ players; in terms of the "normal" tiers he's second-hardest next to a 420 Million HP raid boss.) And your reward for beating that hardest version? A useless item, that literally says, in its description, that it's totally useless. And it's 100% true. Granted, there are other rewards (an exclusive weapon, some exclusive character skins), but those still mandated actual programming, art, and voice actor support to actually get put into the game. Compared to that, having one of your artists draw a one-off gag image is pretty damn cheap. :P Edited April 2, 2019 by Dark Pulse 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Once you are a pro, it probably doesn't take too long to make. Edited April 2, 2019 by DooM_RO 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
