I can't take full credit for that joke, it was the thread's title after all! :P

Yeah I know. It just made me smile that u brought this up again by adding it in the table.

Died on MAP02. Played through the main game afterwards. There's some REALLY bullshit moments, but all in all Sigil is good fun. I kinda wish I didn't play it blind though, heh.

Cat 1, 5 kills.

I messed it up and started on the wrong level because I misinterpreted something. Ended up dying almost immediately.

Technically, you started from the wrong map, so your run wouldn't count (needs to be from E5M1!) I wonder if @Alfonzo would let you be able to do a re-run from E5M1?

Ok then........
I uh......I survived this freaking mapset in 54:54 (played all maps plus secret map). Sadly, it's category 3 (yeah, I wanted to play it blind but I played the wad a couple of times last weekend to get familiarized, I'm afraid and I admit), played with GLBoom+. Freaking cybies in M5, M6, M9 and, especially M8 almost got me and I was afraid that it could take my gameplay to the trash. Cybie in M2 can be ignored anyways and I looked for secrets cuz it helps a LOT!!!

Here's the demo... dwim_sigld85.zip

If I'm not entirely mistaken that would count as a category 3 run:

Quote
  1. This is a blind run. If I have played or watched any of the level/set being played before, I cannot remember any details that would offer a reasonable advantage over truly blind players. *
  2. This is not a blind run. I have played or watched the level/set being played before, or can at least remember some details that would offer a reasonable advantage over blind players.
  3. This is a prepared run. Before declaring my official run I:
  • Played the WAD to some extent after it was announced for this month's challenge, and/or
  • Inspected the WAD's level design in an editor, and/or
  • Watched someone else play the WAD.

Probably...probably not. I'll leave that decision to Alfonzo. Familiar or prepared, I could have died at any moment, especially with the cybies AND the crushers...

Going into such a highly anticipated release prepared just screams cowardice to me.

Yep, definitely cat 3.

Definitely I have 3 cats.

Ok. Let me edit the thing and correct it. One thing that I can clarify is that this demo is the fourth time I play the wad.

Did coop with someone and played it modded at sunday, then at monday I played vanilla casually to see where are all the secrets and formulate a strategy. Then yesterday I did the demo. It worked.

Don't worry, surviving it is a feat nonetheless. Congratulations on the accomplishment. Now let's wait for illegal Krypto.

This brings the BirdBowl to a dire state, though... 4 - 1 for you, I believe.

I lost count of the birdbowl :D

Sorry. So, let's keep on 4-1 for now...

I honestly wonder if Krypto will show up this time...*thonking*

Dragonfly told me this exists while I was streaming Eviternity and I'm interested in participating, but I am unsure of what engine port I should be using. I primarily play using GZDoom with freelook enabled, will that work as long as I use Doom (Strict) compat settings?

@Daerik

Here's the relevant parts of the original post:

Quote
  • Demos (PrBoom+, GLBoom, Eternity or Chocolate), stream highlights and video recordings are the only accepted proofs. You must link to these runs in the thread.
  • No cheats and no features that result in behavior beyond what is possible in the intended source port (e.g. freelook, jumping and crouching in a boom set). This includes dynamic lights and brightmaps. If streaming or recording videos using an advanced source port with compatibility options, you must display these settings on-screen before your run. In ZDoom derivative ports, "Doom/Boom(strict)" will suffice.

So GzDoom is fine as long as you disable freelook and enable Doom (Strict) compatibility. Video proof of your run would have to be used, as GzDoom's demos aren't allowed.

No freelook, tragedy.

I got to thinking, since I've done my run in may, does that run still apply? or is one allowed to do a run again in june?

Only one run is allowed. Your run in May would be accepted.

I recorded a run all hyped up in May after playing through once. I fell into a tiny inescapable pit in map3 (I think) and have deleted it since.

Sigh.

Also I am wondering when the leaderboard would be updated. Almost everyone who were planning to play SIGIL for Ironman have done their run by now.

Unless Alfonzo is still gone fishing 🐟.

Shoehorning my own stuff but in this link you can find a monthly table with updated leaderboards each month and as each run is posted (mostly).

Dead in E5M1

Kills: 7/33

Time: 1:43

Category 1

I've been trying to avoid this thread and all discussions of Sigil this month, so I could call this run blind. Lucky for me, no one ever talked about the beginning of the first map. I'm calling this Category 1. Even though I did watch Romero play part of the 2nd and 3rd maps on stream several months ago, that didn't help me for this run. You could argue I remember him talking about how a particular thing was always a switch, but that didn't really help my performance here. I stand by my self-assessment that this is a Category 1 run.

Now, I'll go back and finish playing Sigil. To me, the maps do feel like authentic E4-era maps. There wasn't a whole lot of variety to the textures, at least in the beginning (which is all I've seen--as of the time of my writing this, I've only played to the beginning of E5M2 and seen part of E5M3). Still, it was a decently enjoyable experience.

EDIT: Having played more of it, there's definitely more variety to the texturing, although it still feels appropriate to and E4-era release.

EDIT 2: @NaZa You have my Category listed as 3 on your results spreadsheet. I didn't do any preparation for my exquisite run. I would accept your assessment of Category 2 because I had watched parts of the second and third map on stream, and you could argue that's how I knew how to get out of the first room. But, I really think those streams didn't help me at all for my splendid run, which is why I called in Category 1.

This may seem nitpicking, but if I am going to contribute to my collection of atrocious Ironman runs with a run that had no preparation, I would like it identified as such.
