Considering you have been consistently producing high quality work either in the form of music or mapsets for many years now. I like many others can only offer the greatest of thanks and the community for be a far lesser place without you.

Like many others, I am short on money with a poorly paid job and raising a child. All I will say is given the effort and motivation you put in here, I hope you will be able to transform your hobby into a fully fledged career (whatever path that may take). It is always the best reward for your career to be around the things you enjoy doing than solely for paying the bills.

While supporting creators is always nice, i think hobbies should be self-funded, otherwise people are going to expect content you made for yourself, which can create some unrest once you decide to move on or do something else, or just kinda dissapear.

Tho patreon is great for careers.

It's fair to say that Jimmy has crossed the line from hobby to career considering that he has likely spent more time writing music and mastering his craft than doing anything else in his life.

I can relate to the dream of turning a hobby into your actual, paid job.

For me, that'd be writing or voice acting. For Jimmy, that's music.

Nobody is mandating they give him money. He's not demanding it and saying "Give me bucks or I'll pick up my ball and go home and none of you will get anything from me ever again."

He's saying a pretty simple thing that all of us with hobbies can relate to - "My passion doesn't pay the bills." And if there's no donations, and he can't find better work, it comes down to spend more time on the hobby and risk financial ruin, find a better job that pays him more to alleviate the pressure, or reduce his time on his hobby so he has more time working stuff that makes him money.

It's that simple.

I don't know him too well but I know his rep in this community. Romero seems to think he's good enough for SIGIL's non-Buckethead version, and that is also a fine pick.

Frankly, if I weren't having my own financial stupidity from last year, I'd have thrown him fifty bucks. I think he's worth that and more for all he's done for this community.

Shaming him for daring to ask people to consider - not mandate, CONSIDER - a donation, is absolutely stupid, and the request to me is entirely fair and just. I'd be the happiest guy in the world if my hobby became my job.

I hope he can get that feeling too.

Whoops, should add words so I'm not encouraging shaming. ❤️ Jimmy!

Yea, fair indeed.

What are the chances of daddy Romero hooking him up with a spot in the big dev? Once they are done with whatevs they are doing.

Hey @Jimmy, I've been eyeballing your Bandcamp for awhile but never got around to pulling the trigger. Now seems about as good a time as any. You're gonna get buried under about a thousand synthwave albums on my fan page but if the Ancient Aliens OST is any precedent then you might get a bit of a rub. Thanks for producing so much quality content!

As someone who has paid Jimmy to make a track, let me tell you, it is well worth the price!

He is super talented, and deserves every bit of support.

Thanks for being awesome, Jimmy. :)

I'm always short of cash myself, but I will offer this. Thank you, Jimmy. For all that you do.

Yeah same here, once I get my legal issues and school sorted I'd happily show some support. But for now, thank you Jimmy for your numerous contributions, you've given this community SO much and helped many.

Sure, just make sure you don't do what I did and accidentally encourage shaming you in one of my posts. It's edited now, but my passion got a bit too ahead of my proofreading.

Probably didn't help I had three hours of sleep, either... :P

Echoing Terminus and Eris here - Jimmy's music has always been massively inspiring and he's what really got me writing. Despite being fairly new to it, I feel like my work is already at a pretty decent level, but I could not have done so without his help and his music providing a lot of ideas.  I learned a lot from studying his stuff as well, same as Eris. Not to mention, the sheer amount of it combined with the quality seen throughout is nothing short of staggering, and we're really lucky to have a guy like him in the community. Keep up the exceptional work!

Are you so socially incompetent that you have nothing better to do than shitting up the thread of somebody who's already going through rough times? Do you really think you're accomplishing anything positive here, by doing this? Here's an idea: Fuck off!

Well, to avoid derailing the thread, I'll not post anymore besides to say good luck to Jimmy with whatever struggles he has in life.

You kinda derailed it (As I realize I'm derailing it right now). Mainly because I cant wait for other people telling you to fuck off again. Maybe it wont, but thats what ive noticed.

I wasn't gonna post, but obake brings up a great point: those of us who have commissioned Jimmy to write some tunes should take this opportunity to share our satisfaction with just how great of a job he does.

I commissioned Jimmy to write a couple midis a few months ago. Jimmy was professional and respectful to both me and my inane ability to word what I was looking for and despite my best efforts he made exactly what I wanted, and in a more timely manner than what I had expected when I decided to look into getting some stuff commissioned. He did everything he said he'd do, when he said he'd do it, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I was happy. I am thrilled to say that I am 100% satisfied with what I payed what I payed for, and where my money went. This man absolutely deserves money and support for all the great content he has brought us and continues to bring us and I'm happy to be a patreon supporter now as well. You rock Jimmy!

I'll also +1 what Term, Eris, and AD have said; though they've stated it better than I can I will say: Jimmy you're extensive work and community support on so many fronts is nothing short of inspirational and admirable. Cheers!

I wish I had cash on me to donate, but I would like to say that you've done an immeasurable amount of work for the community with your midi contributions. Best of luck on your jobhunt. I hope you find a good job.

I think it's fair to say that jimmy's presence on this community is huge, pretty much every major project has a jimmy composition present that gives the map some personality and new life. There's a reason why Romero reached him to have some of his music in SIGIL.

I really hope things go better in the future, and i hope to contribute with something in the near future.

His guidance was invaluable to me at that time and I learnt a lot of what I know from studying his MIDIs (and some of the other Doom composers, tbh).

I lobbied for a cacoward for you despite musicians not having a cacoward category yet... the student has become the master, I'd say. It's kinda wild to see Jimmy's influence trickling down now, where once upon a time he was Random New User #5071 and we were picking apart his first maps.

Jimmy,

even being barely just a few months inside the forum I can already tell how loved and appreciated you are because of your contributions to the community.

Yet I still have to discover more of your works (although maybe I already have encountered some of them without knowing), but I heard some of the tracks on your Youtube channel and they were really darn awesome. I'm not used to hear music tracks and I usually don't display much interest in this kind of creation, but your talent is outstanding (well, I guess you have heard that many times before so, nothing new). Can't be surprised on Romero's decision to get in touch with you.

I want to support such effort put into your content creation. Sadly, I can't suscribe on Patreon, but I will gladly try to share your works, social media and any other way that helps you to get supported. And I will try to buy you a Ko-fi asap!

I don't know if there's any other way for supporting you. If you have a suggestion that may be useful, please let me (us) know!

I for one of many will continue to give my support to the best of my ability.  Although I am unable to do so financially at the moment, that may change in the future when things become more stable.  Keep doing what you do despite a few unwarranted opinions.

That's all very well, but he needs something useful, like thoughts and prayers.

Well, that's kind of what I meant, sort of. I just wish Jimmy really well, and I'm sorry I can't contribute in any major way.

I remember a long time ago hearing a really awesome MIDI in Plutonia 2 and thought "Man this rules! I don't know who this James Paddock guy is but he knows how to write a MIDI." The track on MAP01, in particular: "Pyrarinth."

Good job on all the music you've made over the years, with many more to come. In fact, I may eventually take you up on a big commission. Hopefully you are still writing MIDIs when that day comes.

The 'thoughts and prayers' thing is a joke :p

I think people misinterpreted your post because I didn't see it as being disparaging to Jimmy...

Jimmy shot back with a remark about the guys lack of education (which I don't really understand) and then you perhaps playing devil's advocate questioned the importance of such education implied by Jimmy when it had yet to be of help to him. I read it as not an attack on Jimmy and more on the idea that education in that sense is some free pass to a great job or even required to get a decent job.

Also not saying that Jimmy thinks that either, to be clear, but those ideas could be gleamed from the post in that context.

Sorry just seemed like whir was being wrongly attacked because obviously they like Jimmy.

Aaaaand I didn't get it as usual.

BTW, I'm sorry if some of my posts come off as rude or uncaring about the situation, because it's not the case at all; I'm just terrible with words.

I know sending "good vibes" will do jack shit for Jimmy's bills, but I don't have any money to give him. Being nice (or trying to...) is all I can do right now.

The older I get, the more I want to help out people keeping my favorite games going rather than dumping money into AAA machines just for them to try to coerce me into buying loot boxes.

I have heard so many of your great tracks in WADs. I used to be a MIDI composer as well and it's not an easy task (I tried going back recently and I just couldn't deal with it). So I hope people find value in your work and commissions!

Simply put: Mass shooting happens in the US. Republican Party (who generally are very pro-gun) members then tend to say their "thoughts and prayers" are with the families of the victims of this senseless tragedy.

Republicans then do absolutely nothing to curb all of these weapons from getting into the wrong hands (by claiming legislative attempts to do so infringe on people's rights to own guns), attack anyone who tries to do so as trying to contravene the 2nd Amendment to the constitution (the right to bear arms... which actually has a lot more context than that, namely that the right to it shall not be infringed in order to have an armed militia for self-defense, something the US hasn't had for well over 200 years now), and of course, eat out of the hand of the NRA (a large national gun association) because if they don't toe the line for apparently allowing All Guns, Ever(TM), the NRA will quickly move to get that particular legislator voted out of office, and we all know nobody wants to lose that cushy government job.

TL;DR: Republicans tend to be hypocrites who will make an empty statement and then prove just where their thoughts and prayers are, and it's usually not with the people who had to bury a loved one, but to powerful lobbies instead.

Think about it. We had a massive school shooting where dozens of elementary schoolers died. We tried to ban automatic weaponry and high-capacity magazines. IT FAILED. Dead children, apparently, are not enough to push a common-sense bill through.

Australia has a mass shooting in the early 90s, actually bans them - not one spree shooting since.

Holy shit, this thread got derailed to all fuck. Don't even worry about all the tangential posts, if you like @Jimmy's work and want to help sustain the community a bit consider flicking a few bucks to him or other content creators as you see fit. That's pretty much all that needs to be said other than thanks for making so much stuff for us.
