Freedoomer Posted May 13, 2019 So I am making a fps game and I was wondering If I could use freedoom's assets? It is completely free and I am making it for fun. It won't go on steam only on itch. I will put in that art is from FreeDooM with a link to the official site. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
dybbuk81 Posted May 13, 2019 I wouldn't know the answer to this, but I can only assume it'd probably be okay with the permission of the guys who were behind freedoom. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ok I will make the game and post a copy when a demo is out. If I get in trouble then I know what not to do. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ferk Posted May 13, 2019 (edited) It's BSD licensed. See https://freedoom.github.io/about.html Quote A collection of reusable artwork Freedoom contains hundreds of original textures, sound effects and music tracks that can be reused royalty-free by Doom level authors and other independent game developers. Freedoom is liberally licensed under the BSD license - all that is required is that you include a short copyright statement that credits the Freedoom project. -TDRR- Posted May 15, 2019 (edited) This also allows commercial use, right? Nevermind, just read the details on the Wikipedia page. Edited May 15, 2019 by -TDRR- 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

To quote the Wikipedia article: Quote The BSD License allows proprietary use and allows the software released under the license to be incorporated into proprietary products. Works based on the material may be released under a proprietary license as closed source software, allowing usual commercial usages under them. Which is nice, because one of my commercial projects is balls-deep in Freedoom. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
