How to edit deachmatch?

Hi, I'm starting to create deathmatch map for doom and I have a question. I know this is a dumb question but how does doom deathmatch work? I mean the map ends when a player has a certain amount of kills, the player have to go to the exit of the map to end the deathmatch or the map ends automatically after a certain time pases? if so, how can I edit the deatchmach system?

You can set these when hosting the server. You can choose the fraglimit, timelimit etc
