I haven't played every single WAD ever, so my list may change one day.  Nonetheless, these are *my* essential/favorite WADs.

NRFTL

 

If NRFTL doesn't count, then put Brotherhood of Ruin in its place.  If I had to choose one of those as my favorite it would be Memento Mori II primarily because of game-play and nostalgia.
