The Next Iteration of DSDA

Recommended Posts

I'm pleased to note that DSDA now displays on single pages WAD collections released as a single package, e.g. DAVOWADS.

One such release appears to have been overlooked: ACE_DWF. Currently the demos for it are scattered among 23 pages:

This is a compilation of entries that made it into the finals of a WAD competition held in 1994 by the British mag PC Zone. Curiously, the winning entry, TMP, was not included, I suspect through an oversight.

The DSDA page for TMP is

https://dsdarchive.com/wads/tmp

Provided an ACE_DWF page is eventually assembled, could anyone think of a way of associating the TMP demos with it? Something along the lines of a "Also see: TMP" below the table, perhaps?

Another example of a single release featuring multiple WADs: LEVPACK.

Currently there's only one demo for it on DSDA but I have two more to submit. The 0:52 demo by Revved could use an "EHD11.WAD" comment in the meantime.

I also found the author's name: Ed Jankovsky. See the unsigned TXT file on idgames and compare it to the "Try These New Levels!!!" post on a.g.d.

Is it just me, or has the DSDA been updated recently? For me, it hasn't since the 11th.

It's alive. ALIVE! :-)

Hello <3

My demo of scythe 2 map 02 pacifist was recorded with Nugget Doom v.1.8.0 (It's also written in the txt file), but the dsda page shows "woof v.1.8.0". Can this be fixed?

Thanks in advance :3

Hey, I'd like it if my player name on the DSDA, "Tobby_Happy", could just be shortened to "Tobby" please. Thanks in advance.

There are many demos that don't have dates. Lots of file submissions, especially from the old days, had corrupted or impossible dates that got removed (e.g., dates from before doom came out). I think we fixed a bunch of them, but there are a lot left.

Heh, this was actually a topic of discussion for some time recently. This will be a useful list, but tbh the latest stuff I did was splitting to multiple pages, like https://www.dsdarchive.com/search?utf8=✓&search=dmp2021&commit=Search. I don't personally think this is a great solution, though, but I think DSDA right now isn't well set up to handle these cases. Separate pages is the most convenient in some way but breaks visibility for all runs of a particular release, plus there's the weird cases where a single zip has multiple wads all on separate maps that could conceivably be played together like a movie run. But using the map data to keep track of multiple wads is confusing. IMO, it would be ideal if the DSDA supported separate wads as an extra key on the same page that would only appear for these cases; maybe someday, someone will start adding features to DSDA. :p For now, I don't really have any action I can take on these pages.

Serenity E3M7 has 3 demos marked as "other: UV Max/ Fast attempt, misses 1 secret". Hmmmmm. This is a secret like the one in Doom II MAP27. To quote @TheV1perK1ller

Additional Notes: Normally, one secret is inaccessible (past the soulsphere) due to a teleport line, however I unintentionally ran over the linedef fast enough for it to not activate. I actually didn't think this could be done. Fortunately, the rest of the run went smoothly, so I was able to get 100% as opposed to the previous record's 96%, and in a reasonable time (for me anyway).

Malwarebytes reports that the site hosts a trojan. This is almost certainly a false positive (and I've already added it to my exceptions) but I thought I should let it be known.

idea: find some place (maybe) to put episode maplists? like, some wads style eps to be 5 maps, 11, or even random-ass numbers. Would be useful to centralize information for these wads so it's easier to know when recording.

@GoneAway When loading up DSDA 24 windows 32 bit (a few differrent updates 24.1, 24.3) After updating from 19.7 windows 32 bit playing in 4:3 aspect and 16:9 ratio I can 100% say that all the monster sprites seem to be shorter and "squished" a bit. I even showed this on stream on twitch and some people in chat agreed they could see the change in the monster sprites looking "less good" and more squished in the later version. Has anyone brought this up ? I am supprised people didn't scream this out on here earlier. I can try and take a screenshot comparison if needed. I am using the same texture and graphics settings going through each setting and tried to get the newer versions to "look like my old install" 799632282_bill-clinton-challenge-1587625886(1).jpg.78e46cd2823d03c65da65b6b0bedd0c9.jpg

Not familiar with this skip. Which direction is it?

The whole max exception debate is still kind of ongoing; I'd probably be in favor of counting these as max, but I dunno about the general consensus. I think the IWAD exceptions aren't necessarily something we want to apply everywhere since they are sort of grandfathered in, but that said, clearly unintentional line skips in a max is probably a bit too far to require? Not sure. :P

North and east are wallrun directions, so line skips are harder. This one doesn't have a lot of room for a skip, though, at least doesn't seem like it, so it might not be that easy anyway.

rs03 and rp11 by me have the wrong date. The demo date is off by a year, and they were both recorded in 2015.

Do you remember what timezone were you in when recording those? I'm trying to fix them.

I don't see how that's relevant, but I am in pacific time.

Fixed. It's not really relevant, but the field of date/time can record the timezone info, so I may as well put that in.

So I was looking at some of my older demos from last year on DSDA and I noticed that my lilith.pk3 Map 02 Pacifist demo is mistakenly timed as a 41 second demo as it's actually timed 13 seconds.

Is it "clearly" or "probably"? Make up your mind. ;)

To me requiring line skips for a run to be a valid Max is wholly unreasonable.

1) Three demos for BNBEYOND linked in this post were missed in last update. Yes, those were external links.

2) Missing complevels for VILCORE:

 cl9: Revved's maxes for maps 02 07 12 19 20 22 23 25-27

 cl-1: Revved's maxes for maps 10 15 31 32

 cl2: Revved's max for MAP30

3) the UV Max for WANTON is cl9, the NM Speed is cl3

4) the E3M3 UV Fast run for WADPAK2 should have a comment like "plays back with WP233fix.WAD".

5) the author for LEVPACK is Ed Jankovski (see my previous post for the source)

6) I have the names of most of the authors of the WADs in the ACE_DWF collection (ibid). Are you cool with updating 20+ pages? :)

I think what I meant is skips that are clearly unintentional should probably not be required. :p But it's up to debate anyway. I believe these demos were removed from Other purely automatically (based on an existing real max), so it's not really set in stone.

WRT external links, I'll get around to those, I don't have a great way of dealing with those yet, heh. Missing complevels are something that I will probably automate at some point, just haven't been able to get around to that lately. For the authors, feel free to post them and I'll update those, shouldn't be that bad. :D
