New to speedrun

Hello everyone, I'm new to the speedrun genre and I would like to know where to get the game and what version of the game I need:)? (doom 1/2)
Plus any tips,guides will help too

You can get doom, doom 2 and final doom from steam and gog. They all should stay on version 1.9 . 

 

Widely used port for speedrunning is prboom+, you need copy your doom iwads here when you'll get those. Get familiar with command lines for demo recordings and complevels. You can use zdl or old fashioned bat file with needed commands. There's plenty of information in doom speed demos place and if you google "doom prboom+".  I admit that I'm just touching surface here, more experienced people will tell you more.
