VGA Posted March 19, 2020 In the videos I've watched and all the screenshots I see on Steam the brightness seems very high. And I hope there is some downscaling/pixel-doubling option to make it look more retro! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted March 19, 2020 I guess this has a Quake-like progression with a techbase first level and then it's Hell until we can defeat The Auntie of All Demons. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SiFi270 Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) So if I have to beat the original to unlock it, does that mean I have to do a continuous run, or is there something behind the scenes keeping track of which levels I've done even if I'm doing them separately? It won't be as simple as entering the password for Map28 and beating that, right? My original plan before the new episode was announced was to do a continuous run on the Switch and a pistol start run on PC, but because I'd rather go into new and unfamiliar levels with the keyboard/mouse controls I'm most used to, I'd like to know in advance if I'm better off doing a continuous run on PC instead. SiFi270 Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) From the initial announcement on USgamer: "James Haley, senior developer: On our end, persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga" And then I'm sure there's another article that said it more clearly but I seem to have lost it. I realize that excuse is omnipresent throughout time and space, and I'm not happy to have to resort to it, so I'll keep looking for a little while. EDIT: Aha! It was in the other thread. Apparently you can unlock the new chapter using a password to map28 and beating it. I just tried it on Xbox One version. Spoiler I also unlocked achievements for Unmaker and BFG9000 in the first room of MAP28. I didn't think to try this so thank you! (I've been able to play this game and Doom Eternal today, because I changed the location setting on my Xbox to New Zealand. Don't know if it works this way on other consoles... but it's out very soon either way.) Edited March 19, 2020 by plynthus 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Immorpher Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) Avoiding spoilers for now until I get it! :D But its nice to know you can jump to the last map if needed. Edited March 19, 2020 by Immorpher 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted March 19, 2020 Thanks to this thread reminding me, I bought it. Its 8 dollars in New Zealand. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted March 19, 2020 Whatever you do please don't judge the gameplay only by the videos that are coming out from the news sites, because they've all resorted to using ITYTD skill level in fear of being labeled the next Dean Takahashi. Play this shit on WMD, and I promise it'll be a lot more enthralling challenge-wise. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

Mr. Pogo Posted March 19, 2020 I'm currently playing D64 on ps4. Eternal and 64 both released today because of virus hysteria. Just played through the first couple of levels. It's a damn good port. I mean a really damn good port. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted March 19, 2020 Spoiler There are 6 new levels in the Lost Levels, and one new Fun level, beat Hectic to unlock the new campaign early. Features is unlocked permanently, using the cheats inside will disable achievements as usual. There seems to be an oddity with the loading screen, there is an empty save slot above slot 1 that only appears when loading. Quality port, been playing for a while. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Senor500 Posted March 19, 2020 I checked the Steam page and it asks for an Intel i5-750, 8 GB of RAM and R7 240 | GTX 660 | Intel HD 530 to run. Is this for real? I'm not buying Eternal because I can't run it and I wanted to buy 64 but apparently not either... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted March 19, 2020 The requirements are based on the minimum specs the game was tested with, not the minimum specs the game can actually run with. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted March 20, 2020 Ye, the specs are inflated. If you have a GTX 650 and above/a Vulkan compatible card, it is guaranteed to work. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted March 20, 2020 Reached Outpost Omega before stopping for now. Definitely an extremely solid port, works better than EX ever did for me. Hopefully the PC version can run custom D64 levelsets or gets that ability patched in later; would be nice to see D64 mapping take off now that the game is legally available for PC 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted March 20, 2020 Thats one thing I immediately liked about this port: Being able to turn off the filtering and antialiasing to have all the sharp pixels I expect from Doom. Playing it on my TV (Which has really good colour for darker games like this), it looked so damn good. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Boaby Kenobi Posted March 20, 2020 Getting the sphere in that level without dying like the game intends you to. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altazimuth Posted March 20, 2020 I forget, does the grab for the soulsphere require abusing the bug where you go faster than intended? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SteelPH Posted March 20, 2020 I always got it by slowly inching forward until I collect it without falling in. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
