DoomedDude Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Has anyone thought about getting 8 seconds in E1M1 on Nightmare! I’m curious how much more difficult it will be than on Ultra Violence. Edited August 17, 2019 by Sector 147 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Looper Posted August 17, 2019 Getting 9 seconds on nightmare is a lot more difficult than 9 seconds on UV. Very difficult question to answer because you die a lot more, but it also means you get pushed a lot more. Some of the monsters are placed quite annoyingly and coupled with the fact that they shoot you pretty much instant. But who knows... maybe the RNG helps in the zigzag room enough to negatiate the other luck factors out, but I doubt it. I'm gonna say it is a lot more difficult, but I'm not gonna say it is impossible. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted August 17, 2019 (edited) ^ Yeah, agreed with @Looper here. E1M1 on NM is really difficult, the worst part of it being the area infested with hitscanners, you have to be quite lucky to have the enemies shoot each other, which from my experience rarely happens, they usually sniped like there is no tomorrow, not to mention that it's equally easy to get monster blocked in the last room before the exit (and just how many times I got killed at the exit because projectiles happened). I've managed to get my time as low as 0:10 recently, 9 is already super difficult to get, 8 sounds possible but no idea how. I think one could win some time at the exit if all goes well at the hitscan party. Edited August 17, 2019 by seed 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomedDude Posted August 17, 2019 Yeah, dying a lot more is the main issue I see. Also, don’t enemies move quicker in Nightmare!? Assuming they do, then monster movement to get the perfect line in the zigzag room has a lot more RNG. The enemies can either get out of the way quicker and possibly make it easier to run the best line; or, they can move into positions to block you much quicker. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I think they move the same speed, except demons. The more RNG there is in the zigzag room, the easier it gets. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SaladBadger Posted August 17, 2019 depending on how you look at it, wouldn't nightmare monsters actually move slower in the presence of the player? they're taking single steps and immediately attacking, so unless you're out of sight they aren't moving much at all. Can't comment on how relevant this would actually be to the run, not being an active runner, but I could potentially see it being a factor. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Not on E1M1 I don't think, there's not many routes to take to get the best time possible and the group of hitscanners will always see you whatever path you take. To my knowledge anyway. Also on NM, as far as I recall enemies shoot you on sight, only on -fast they actually make a step or two before engaging. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SaladBadger Posted August 17, 2019 hah, my bad on that one. I seemingly remembered monsters on nightmare taking a step right before they shoot, but I loaded it up and checked and yeah they just stand still if they can see you at all. What I suspect I was remembering was that they do briefly face their old facing angle, I guess. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Looper Posted August 17, 2019 They do move a bit at times. The chances are pretty much reversed compared to UV. If it takes a step on UV, it shoots on NM. If it shoots on UV, it takes a step on NM. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
