Betruger

Was Betruger somehow in communication with Hell or was he possessed the whole time? 

 

I mean, he already looked quiet ghoulish, takes on a demonic voice later and in the span of 6 hours becomes a Dragon.

 

It's a question that's bugged me for eternity.

Being possessed means he is under direct control of hell, but why would hell make a pact with him then? So it's more likely that he communicated with hell and then made a pact.
