I wonder whether this WAD will ever be finalized?

It seems a few people did runs for all 32 maps, but this is at a very strange state where demos are not going to be uploaded because it is likely to desync.

In Sep 2021 I uploaded ver 3.0 and it is the last version. There definitely won't be any other after that. I go into more details in a video I've uploaded recently, including why I haven't yet uploaded to /idgames.

I talk about this stuff about 1min into the video.

Can't watch the video because my office blocks it.

Not that if I'm going to do anything with it, the thing is that it got that more than 3 versions per year, so nobody could have guessed it's finalized because I didn't see any information about this. I replied that post because somebody mentioned it, but I guess my main point is my sympathy towards whoever put some effort into the demos.

@DASI-I

Should probably take the chance of this thread's resurgence to personally thank you for making Doom Zero. It's not an exaggeration to say that it turned my view of doom mapping upside down.

Check out this Youtuber if you're into 100% complete pistol start playthroughs of Doom maps. The reason why I'm bringing this up is because although I do think they are good videos, the real reason I'm sharing is because I don't think the quality of his videos are to scale of the current subscribers he has (and at the time of this post he has 1 subscriber). The only reason why I discovered this guy in the first place is because Doom Zero is his first 100% playthrough/walkthrough. I normally don't do searches of Doom Zero on YouTube all that often but I think this guy deserves a bit of love.

Im enjoying this so far but i've seen a glitch with this sprite:

Screenshot-Doom-20220316-060135.png

On the videos its supposed to be a pentagram but here its clipping on the floor.

Also, its the SSG supposed to reload faster? on the videos it works normal.

It’s something in your user config that results in this. If you run it in a more vanilla sourceport or change your renderer settings it will show up.

Under Hardware Renderer options change the Adjust Sprite Clipping option to Smarter or Always. This way this particular sprite will look as intended (other sprites being adjusted not that significantly in the process).
Note: this does not work with Software Renderer, be it plain Doom or Truecolor (obviously).

IDK about SSG tho, rather than its sounds being played in a changed order, which can explain a feeling of it reloading faster.

But it's not needed in software.

The problem is that if you enabled Always the corpses look like they are floating.

Also, why did they change the SSG at all? its annoying.

Congratulations on the idgames release!

I see there's a (very) small size difference compared to the version 3b that was on ModDB, are there any changes compared to that?

If there was a real difference, I would've called it 3.1 but the reason why I just added a "B" is because 3.0 and 3.0B are exactly the same. Just the boss sprite is a bit different. Doesn't matter which you use, demo recordings won't desync if you switch between these two. As a result, The idgames version is actually 3.0B. But from now on it's only referred to as simply ver.3

So now that this thread is resurrected, let me say 2 things:

1) I really enjoy this wad, I'm glad it's part of the "sorta official releases" and the changes to the basic Doom formula are all really interesting. This feels a bit like a Doom 3 the way id would have done.

2) The one slight visual hiccup that I wish could be fixed is with the new boss (seen in levels 20 and 29). It clips horribly on the sides in GZDoom Software Rendering. The fix is to switch to single core rendering, but that does affect my performance just a tiny bit, plus the boss still pops in and out if you strafe.

I played through this. It feels like a parasite leeching off of my ability to remeber, compare and feel nostalgia. Kinda bland gameplay, one billion references to older Doom (half of which are poorly done IMHO,but still) The only enjoyable maps were 01,10,03,06,08,23,everything else after map 11 looks worse than the worst Doom 2 had to offer. The weapon changes are nice, although not without weird stuff like the SSG sounding less organically. Additional monster sounds either do not fit or sound bad. MAP 31 is just a big reference and is painful to look at.Also,Romero's level design fetishistic disorder.

4.5\10 Good ideas,subpar execution.

Huh. I would like to go ahead and categorically disagree with everything he said in the post above me, except I guess the "good ideas" part. I loved this wad.

Opinions and taste are opinions and taste, so I'm not going to argue with that - although I vehemently disagree.

What I will point out, is that you could have phrased your opinions in a way that was at least minimally respectful of the time a creator put in making a 32 map, full megawad that, certainly - and here I claim objectivity - does *not* look in any way worse than the worst D2 has to offer. This is just plainly false. This post's angsty hyperbole is the kind of tone this forum does not need.

Oh no someone has a negative opinion! what will we do!!!!!1!11

Dude what do you mean "kind of tone this forum doesn't need"? If you just keep sucking the creator off each time they do something they ain't gonna improve. I am respectful,in a way,but if you're telling me that, titanic effort went into this then you're telling falsehoods. You do know there's lots of stuff out there that is a 32 level megawad,full-on vanilla and also looks good? looking at the words:"Build time:4 years" you kinda expect not that, especially not 3000000+ levels with lowering\raising floor puzzles. Some of you people need to learn how to take negative opinions.

Just a little PSA here, you are allowed to dislike wads and leave poor reviews so long as you aren't insulting the author or something like that. Shibainumaster seems to be posting his opinion in good faith. (I've had people tell me my wads were bland too, it's not the end of the world.)

Wad is bland =/= wad is 'a parasite leeching off', 'worse than the worst D2 has to offer' etc etc. But I said my piece and now take my leave, as apparently we all have very different thresholds of what 'polite', 'respectful' and 'constructive' criticism is.
