Probably you should also put a key in the BFG area, so no matter what, the player can use it for a "final fight" or some sort, BUT I don't remember where is the yellow door...

edit: as far as Doom Retro goes, it seems like the TEXTURE2/PNAMES lumps are responsible. not sure what it is about them, though, considering Eviternity and its TEXTURE2 lump works just fine in Doom Retro. will keep poking around this, but might eventually have to ask Brad Harding for some debugging help or something? not sure...

 

as for glboom+, @dmslr I seem to be able to run the wad ok on glboom+ 2.5.1.4. if I try to load a random Doom 2 map that's not replaced by a drought map, like map06, then I do get signal 11 because the iwad maps are trying to load textures that no longer exist. but otherwise if you stay in the confines of what drought, it's looking ok for me. do you get a signal 11 even on map01 - map04?

I really like the way the levels are designed with the monster behavior in mind - like the cyber-mancubi on map2, and how map1 is narrow so you can't circle-strafe the baron and you just keep getting pushed back by it.

I got an idea for a level, inspired by map02 (Punchline) of Scythe - make a melee monsters only level! Zombies, pinkies, and hellknights! You have to score some kills vs pinkies without berserk, but you eventually get berserk and have to punch your way through sections with zombies/pinkies. The zombies will be the sole source of ammo. Massive groups of zombies are always fun to shoot up, you could create a section where you fall into a room and are surrounded and have to mow them down with a minigun along with pinkies and spectres and a hellknight or more. Also forcing the player to fist-fight a hellknight would be cool too, maybe make a trap next to a berserk pack/armor that drops iron bars in place to trap you for 10 seconds so you have to kill it to survive.

Will the wad be updated to the latest version of D4V or there will not be any gameplay changes in the final release?

indeed it will! it's just taking me a lifetime to get to it, due mostly to procrastination, but also because I'm still not certain how to make the bfg path in map03 feel more worth the journey for players that already have the yellow key. maybe just a cyb or mastermind battle after getting the bfg would do it, but I've not played around with it yet.

 

but yeah, I will get around to it, but not for a few weeks still. next RC ought to be early December sometime. many thanks to everyone that's played, provided feedback or demos, or even modified a source port to make this work ;D

Loved it!
Your maps all kept me at the edge of my seat from start to finish. I played it on HMP (my skill level of choice) and it was incredibly balanced so that I didn't die once but often went down to dangerously low health, bravo.
The level design felt very Doom2016 in how you had to keep running all the time.

Woah, This looks good! I'll definitely try it out! (note I was looking for maps/mapsets/wads to play with D4V and I find One made by You and then I instantly got excited because of your talent in terms of modding, still haven't played any of your other wads yet though Ive played it now and it was pretty good

in terms of gameplay)

It's VERY hard to believe these were made in such a short period of time, with how much fun (and surprisingly large, at least the third one) they are. These might even be some of the hardest maps you've made and i love that. Also taking this as an opportunity to bump this thread so that more people check it out :D

hah, I was really gung-ho about speedmaps with a very short time limit around the time I made these, and it worked out really well for me here. you can see from my commit logs on github (map01, map02, map03) that I was able to crank out the initial, rough versions in just a few days, and then spent the next few weeks expanding and detailing them (in separate files, not covered by those commit screenshots). the first versions were really rough, but the whole process made me realize it's much easier for me to expand on a rough base versus just building something refined from the ground up. for the curious, here's a layout before (left) and after (right) of map01 - 03:

Oh man, this is just so enjoyable for a D4V experience without the headache to look for other mapsets to load it with! Considering that not so many stand-alone gameplay mods, much less DeHackEd-based ones, have their own maps/mapsets, this is a blessing for me.
