I am aware that going down is popular. However, unlike the other top 15-20, it doesnt come up in talks as often as them. The only time its mentioned is when either Cyriak or the wad itself gets brought up. It never comes up for any other reason, like the other popular wads.

I know going down is popular, but what do you want from me, i like it, therefore im giving it points. Buzz off.

Also, dont start fights. We both know you wouldnt get punished because you're a regular, and im not, but thats not an excuse for you to start fights, just because it wont harm you.

It's easiest to do an all-time list when you've played fewer wads and the clear standouts from those are obvious. But when you've played dozens of wads you'd think of as, like, 9.5/10 or 10/10 good even while being stingy about that, it becomes really hard. I have Sunlust and Lost Civ and Counterattack as top-3 still but between 4-30 it's just vibes and feel because the differences are so small to me.

Small update to this, idk if it's worth the 2 month bump, but whatever. IIRC I gave Ultimate Doom a bunch of points because it had the least points of the 4 Doom IWADs at the time, but it doesn't really need that many points when everyone is familiar with it... :P

I started my wad journey from scratch a while ago. Playing popular old stuff currently, and I found the first 6 wads that I enjoyed. Ready to share my picks, and give them a bump, heh (although they're already popular enough).

 

I found that I dislike ranking stuff, so I'll give everything equal scores, except PG because I found it less memorable (and because I don't have enough points to rank it the same as others).

Noticed an error, the rankings haven't been updated across the list. For example it says Sunlust and Alien Vendetta are both #2 even though Sunlust overtook AV by 3 points.

10 DBP37: AUGER;ZENITH - the environment detail in this mod can wipe the floor with a lot of zdoom maps, the added mechanics like glass and destructible walls mesh well with vanilla gameplay, and the concepts for many levels are fun and/or original

 

9 Externination Day (updated version of the Hell on Earth Starter pack) - while i haven't played it with brutal doom as intended, i feel that it's the most fleshed out remake of the original doom 1/2 campaign on zdoom, especially with how its designed with jumping in mind. however, the bosses can be dry, the tanks are cheap and underhanded, and the support marines often feel like extra weight you need to lug around.

9 Doom 64 for Doom 2 - i mostly played doom 64 instead of this mapset, but i assume it's basically the same (minus the scripting shit that d64 has)

 

1 TNT: Evilution - underrated, but still not great. there are many maps that i enjoy a lot (like crater, redemption, shipping/respawning, stronghold) but the flaws that people point out are definitely true

If a wad at any point has more than 3 monsters in one room it's a slaughter wad.
