Which is why I actually prefer him to the Doomslayer. It's easier to me to identify with a regular guy been thrown into a really bad situation. However, there are many people here that have stated that the doomguy doesn't have to be the protagonist, but rather just an important character that the movie shapes around, which is a great idea. Having the protagonist being a newcomer marine (the one from the cover maybe? :P) that gets to work with the doomguy and see that he's a bit too efficient in his job and maybe even inspire dread on him sounds interesting. This video plays around with this idea and references many clichés along with other id things Edited January 14, 2021 by cu2 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted January 14, 2021 If you take the Doomslayer's story as presented through 2016 and Eternal, he was just a regular marine originally (implied to be the one from Doom, Doom II, and Doom 64) who got stuck in Hell, eventually arrived (somehow) in Argenta, and was put in the divinity transmogrifier after that. Then he got stuck in Hell again, until excavated by the UAC and released by Samuel Hayden. Then who knows what happened to make him lose all his weapons when Samuel exiled him after taking the crucible, but he found a sentinel starship and used it to go back to Earth and decided not to do what Sammy tells him to do anymore. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DiR Posted January 28, 2021 Kind of a necro, but I just found it funny how there's even a dude who looks like doomguy in the cast but wasn't really significant to the story 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It’s a curse. You could have a game where when you boot it up, it is literally just the script to an amazing film lying on the ground sorrounded by amazing sets, props and actors and they would still turn it into garbage, usually by ignoring it all. God himself can’t make a good video game movie. I think someone signed some deal with Satan or something during the production of the Mario movie and now it is physically impossible to create a good video game movie. Sure you can imagine a good video game film, and theoretically it’s really not that hard to get right. Obviously, somebody would have gotten it right by now, were it possible... But it’s not. It’s a curse from Satan. Case closed. There's more to it. It's about the people involved with the project. Compare Schumacher Batman to Nolan Batman movies. The difference between the movies is night and day. One clearly has the talent while another does not. You need to understand the source material and to be part of the culture to do great stuff. Now that we've established that, we really don't have anyone with gamer backround representing us in the movie industry. It's mostly a homogenous culture of out-of-touch filmmakers with their own beliefs and prejudices who have never played a video game in their life. But I can almost guarantee that most if not all the adaptations to movies have been made by greedy pricks looking for an easy cash grab with the video game crowd while changing the movie to please the movie people while not even understanding the source material. And failing every single time. We're talking about a soulless industry that went bad decades ago. Lot of those filmmakers are also old enough to not recognize gaming as a legitimate medium because it wasn't the thing of their generation. Theoretically it's possible, but breaking into movies is not that easy. Edited February 1, 2021 by Samuel Slayer 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
