Sneezy McGlassFace Posted February 16, 2023 (edited) I'm not much of a megawad person, that's my disclaimer. I would always appreciate 6 little eviternities with one theme each more than one masterwork with everything in it. I love bite sized experiences and I think the thematic episodes in megawads would often benefit from being split into smaller wads - miniwads, if you will. Like up to 10 maps each. Or squish them all into one sprawling map, that's cool too. One of the reasons I think is consistency and one is difficulty curve. If I play let's say scythe 2, and don't vibe with the sewer theme, I'd feel guilty for skipping it because it's a good chunk of the megawad, and I'm breaking the flow of the experience. And then comes the jungle theme, and the difficulty is all over the place from one to the other. If they were split into miniwads, I could easily go for the jungle, and chances are it would be balanced differently too. When it's a megawad soft-split into theme episodes, often times the first episode is a snooze, and the last is a ball buster. That could still be the case in separate miniwads but I'd know what I'm getting into before I start it up. When it comes to thematic consistency over a span of several maps, I think it's great. Makes it feel like a coherent journey. Makes it feel like a believable space. Edited February 16, 2023 by Sneezy McGlassFace Spelling 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
