MeetyourUnmaker Posted December 5, 2019 I just noticed that the Fragile (1999) has a song on it with a melody progression that sounds similar to a song in Doom 64, you think I am overthinking it a bit? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Taw Tu'lki Posted December 5, 2019 Hmm, yeah, I feel some similarities. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hybridial Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Oh I got a couple of good ones for this Spoiler And yeah I guess this one isn't technically a videogame theme (but has definitely been used in a bunch of them) but still I can't believe this hasn't been noted more. TheUltimateDoomer666 Posted March 2, 2020 Unlikely. Staccato chords like that are very common in music. You can even hear it in this game: 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Taw Tu'lki Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) Hmm, maybe. But when I heard a song of this post-punk band, it reminds me "Nobody told me.." Some examples, when post-punk songs remind me Doom OST DooM The Demons from Adrians Pen - Joy Division - Lord Of The Days DooM II DOOM - Bauhaus - Mask (the drumming and intro in particular are identical) Waiting For Romero To Play - Кино - Раньше в Твоих Глазах Into Sandy's City - The Sisters of Mercy - Black Planet Final TNT Evilution Death's Bells - Siouxsie And The Banshees - Face To Face (very similar arrangement) Let's Kill at Will - Something from The Cure (because I think that this midi is arranged to post-punk from 80s by bass and drum part) More - Something from the early The Sisters Of Mercy Edited March 3, 2020 by Taw Tu'lki 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I made a medley out of four songs - "Kalinka," "Grabbag," "The Broad and Rolling Steppe," and the Russian National Anthem. To my knowledge, all of them (except for Grabbag) are Russian folk songs, and are public domain within the United States. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
taufan99 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) Oh wow, I finally got a chance to post this one! It's such a curiosity, since personal computers like ZX Spectrum weren't a thing in Indonesia, and far too few people know about this, so I can practically brag that I'm the only Indonesian who knows this factoid. Very obviously inspired by this track from a ZX Spectrum game... ...which, in turn, also inspired other renditions. Spoiler Edited January 8, 2023 by taufan99 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Grimosaur Posted January 8, 2023 ^ A Trip to the Fair 3:32 onwards and Cotton Island 0:07 onwards Tim Follin has said a lot of his songs were inspired by prog rock so I wonder if this was something he'd lifted or if it's just a coincidence? ^ Vibes and Stuff 0:03 onwards and Peggle 1:15 onwards This however surely can't be a coincidence I mean come onnn! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

SiFi270 Posted January 10, 2023 This one time my dad was listening to BBC radio and something came on that was incredibly similar to Plasma by @leejacksonaudio. I was able to find it again later with the iPlayer, and apparently it was called "Zone Out" and composed by Holly Archer, but searching both of those names in quotes gets me barely anything. I recorded it with Audacity and uploaded it, but I'll understand if a mod thinks I shouldn't have and removes the link. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Eh, it's close, but it's not anything that you could say they infringed on me or I infringed on them. They're both unique enough pieces that they stand out from each other. Thanks for posting it, though! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kinsie Posted January 11, 2023 My friends and I are insistent that Lower Brinstar from Super Metroid pulls more than a little inspiration from the guitar at the start of This Love by Pantera, but nobody else on Earth seems to be able to hear it. We're probably just crazy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Neat tunes both. With a finite number of chords and notes, some accidental similarity is bound to happen. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SiFi270 Posted January 11, 2023 I never really thought it was deliberate. I should have made that clear in the initial post. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Sena Posted January 11, 2023 Spoiler I don't think I could pinpoint it to a specific track, but Burn from the Natural Born Killers OST would've been right at home in Quake 2. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
PsychEyeball Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) The soundtrack of old Fallouts owe a fair bit to Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol II, especially with these two songs. Aphex Twin (Windowsill): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGcT-mbAeTg Fallout (Moribund World): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMkWkNuxFAA Aphex Twin (Grass): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBU3uAzRejs Fallout (City of Lost Angels): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjy8XqJClTc And as a bonus, here's a band called .O. Rang which provided the backbone for another Fallout song. .O. Rang (Little Sister): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItYTwaYWTeI Fallout (A Trader's Life): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6So4k5UqHw And now for something different. While the overall structure of both pieces aren't quite the same, I always found the Tristam theme in Diablo kinda reminiscent of this Tangerine Dream song, especially in the way the guitar is played and the overall guitar sound.
