elend Posted July 30, 2020 @Scuba Steve What kind of coffee table book are you thinking of? I have kind of the same idea, probably a rather large square format one, featuring sexy map layouts and possibly noteworthy title screens. With today's printing services prices are actually quite reasonable and "cheap" if you don't need to turn a 500 USD profit per book and enough people buy. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chip Posted July 31, 2020 I don't think a coffee table book is possible. This is a large essay, but it isn't that long. only 145 pages on PDF. I would say a simple hardcover novel/novella would be great! I would love to get a copy of that, but when I tried to print my friends book as a gift for them (just a single copy), it was a total mess. All the websites I used had to shave off a bit of the book so it would fit, and after hours of editing, I had to pay with a check sent to the actual company! I ended up canceling it, as it looked crappy anyway, and I just gave my friend like a card or something. It was pretty cheap, though, so if somebody were to actually print this, it would probably cost them like 10 bucks, which seems crazy to me! Thank you Elend for the PDF version, I'm on chapter 2! great read so far! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I get that you have to buy them in mass quantities, but maaaaaaaannnnn! I thought a coffee Table Book would be like 6 bucks (USD), but they are only 2-4 bucks! that's insane! it would cost only $20,000 to make 8,000 hardcover books! imagine the profit you could make on that! I bought a Coffee Table book a few months ago for 20 bucks, you could make $160,000 (only making $140,000, also not including taxes). of course shipping and handling are in there somewhere, but you can still make a crazy profit! Also, forget what I said earlier about 145 pages as being too little, as that is about average for a book that size. Still, I'm amazed! One of my teachers nieces is getting published by a big publisher (I forget which), and my teacher said her niece made like $750,000 for her first book (it was part of a conversation the class was having, so it wasn't weird that she shared that information). But, you could make that much by self-publishing! That's amazing! also, @Scuba Steve amazing idea! (I've used amazing a lot in this, haven't I) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Another good contribution to our non-fictional literature! First Endless' Doom Master Wadazine, and now we get this. I can sense this year becoming the year of DOOM non-fictional literature ;) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
elend Posted July 31, 2020 @Scuba Steve That sounds quite ambitious, tbh. If you need contributors, count me in. :I @LiT_gam3r Costs of (offset) printing books have come way down in recent years, mostly thanks to the internet and the combining of several "customers" on one sheet of paper so to speak. Also digital printing (inkjet and the likes) have come a long way and offers quite some awesome quality by now. So theoretically you can print only 1 book, if you like. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
