Not Jabba Posted December 10, 2019 We know you've been waiting for this moment, because you've made your own threads about it and everything. Well, here you go: The 2019 Cacowards are now live! It's been another amazing year, and we're thrilled to bring you this celebration of the Doom community's fantastic content as always. Without further ado, it's time to begin the time-honored Cacoward tradition of complaining about the awardees. 78 Quote Share this post Link to post
Obsidian Posted December 10, 2019 No complaining about the Espi award, that's for sure. Massive congrats to @Jimmy, very well deserved. 55 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altazimuth Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) I claim shenanigans! Anyway congrats to all the winners. I'm interested in the choice for Codeaward, but it's definitely deserved. The choice does make me wonder if the "Codeaward" title is strictly suitable to something that appears more general than "Code somebody the winner wrote that can be found on GitHub or whatever." That's unimportant though. Edited December 10, 2019 by Altazimuth 15 Quote Share this post Link to post
Joshy Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) Happy birthday Doom! Congrats to all the winners, and Ukiro for his amazing work on OTEX and Eviternity, very well deserved. And massive congratulations to Jimmy for the Espi award, such an appropriate award considering all his timeless achievements over the years! anotak Posted December 10, 2019 grats 2 all winners! <3 as is customary, we must gripe about those we thought shouldve won but did not: in my case, that is sigil. but you know what, it's good shit that romero doesn't auto-win even if i disagree in this case! 16 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gaia74 Posted December 10, 2019 Congratulations to all the winners!, They deserve it after their wonderful collaborations 13 Quote Share this post Link to post
NuMetalManiak Posted December 10, 2019 This was easily worth losing sleep over. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
RonnieJamesDiner Posted December 10, 2019 Not a single DOOM 2016 Snapmap. Shameful. Congratulations everyone, well deserved. The quality of writing for each review is spectacular, and (not to take away from anyone else) I just want to give a shout out to you @rdwpa, your reviews just have this wonderful narrative quality to them. Loved them all, though. Looking forward to reading Roots. Not the Alex Haley book... the uh... Doom level design one. Yeah. 20 Quote Share this post Link to post

Marcaek Posted December 10, 2019 All of the cacowards are bad!!!!!!! All of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grats to all the winners especially Jimmy for the Espi. You're a titan. 19 Quote Share this post Link to post
reflex17 Posted December 10, 2019 Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to the organizers for putting it together. Every year seems to get better and the talent of the community leaves me nearly speechless. Big round of applause, congrats and thanks to Jimmy for being an absolute legend. To me the name Jimmy goes almost hand in hand with 'Doom', his works are so widespread and consistent through the years. Can't think of anyone more deserving. 13 Quote Share this post Link to post
antares031 Posted December 10, 2019 Congratulations to all the winners and runner-ups of the Cacoward 2019! Another year, another great community-made wads & mods. I'm surprised that Hocus Pocus Doom is on the list, since I was certain that it's going to win the award in the next year, judging from the release date of the final version. At any rate, I'm so glad that this total conversion has won the award. Special shout-out to ukiro for winning the Creator of the Year award, and Jimmy for winning the Espi Lifetime Achievement award. And much appreciation to all of Cacoward judges for doing a difficult work for the community. Gonna sit back and relax to enjoy this another great article about Doom level design, written by Not Jabba. 26 Quote Share this post Link to post

Mechadon Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) I haven't had a chance to read everything yet, but I gotta say congrats to @Jimmy! It's been so long now (well over a decade ago, holy shit) but I remember Jimmy being one of the first guys to give me feedback on one of my crappy DM maps back in the Skulltag days. Since then he's always been helping me out with my stupidly ambitious projects in one form or another. It took me years before I dove into the community because social anxiety is my kryptonite. And I don't know how long I would have stuck around if it weren't for him. It has been a pleasure to see him turn into a pillar of the community :) Congrats to everyone else as well! I have quite a few things to add to my to-play list. Eviternity was definitely my favorite this year, and maybe in my top 5. My only regret is that I couldn't make a map specifically for it, though people seemed to really like Gossamer. OTEX is such a well done texture pack and I wanted to do more with it. tourniquet Posted December 10, 2019 Congrats to all the stalwart winners. A bit of a sorry tale that i haven't played a lot of releases this year, however the write-ups are great and provide at least a bit of a summary of all i've missed. I'm quite happy @Paul977 received some attention, the runners up is well deserved. Also grats to Mr. Duff for snatching a shiny Caco. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
Capellan Posted December 10, 2019 Congrats to all the winners! It was clearly a very big year for Cool New Things. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
xvertigox Posted December 10, 2019 Gratz to everyone! Really looking forward to reading it and the Roots feature. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gordon Posted December 10, 2019 Congratulations to all of the winners. I'll have to catch up on a lot, but Eviternity is a classic and Hell-Forged is creative and fantastic. Shotgun Symphony is a great showcase for Doom 1 difficulty, especially with the sneakily dangerous shotgunner. And of course congratulations and thanks to Jimmy for all of his work in the community. It's always been a treat hearing his stuff from Plutonia 2 to Sigil, and to me his music has become as synonymous with Doom as Bobby Prince's. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Denim Destroyer Posted December 10, 2019 Another year another Cacoward to look out for. Glad to see Sonic Robo Blast get some recognition and as usual managed to find some stuff that flew under my radar. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
FrancisT218 Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) Finely Crafted Fetish Film was a release I totally forgot about...how could I let myself! After all Ribbiks snatched Cacowards in 2013. Then again in 2015. Then again in 2017....so the conclusion ought to have been obvious...right...? Entropy also something I'd forgotten about, and I'd heard of Phobos but don't follow Doom 3 a lot...the other 19 though were definitely ones I'd seen a lot about over the past year, and Eviternity shall surpass Scythe II as the biggest shoe-in ever! Honorable snubs (released by end of October), aka 'I wish I saw this but not because what I did see doesn't deserve it too': SPECTRUM by @Capellan, Sinergy by @Crunchynut44 (plenty of UD this year!), Mapwich by @Bridgeburner56 @Insane_Gazebo et al. (and the special article - what a great surprise BTW - even has a community project feature that omits it...), Hurt by @elend, Mass Extinction by @nicolas monti. To name a few. elend Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) Thanks to the organizers for doing all this. Very fun to read, some well deserved praise and some interesting mentions, which I have yet to check out. Congratulations to Jimmy and Ukiro especially. Well deserved. Edited December 10, 2019 by elend fixed a typo 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
SteelPH Posted December 10, 2019 Quote But where EVERY official Sonic game of the past 15 years has failed to capture the magic of the original series Strawman. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lorenz0 Posted December 10, 2019 Congratulations to all winners! I'm especially happy about Eviternity and Paradise getting cacowards, incredibly well deserved. I'm also really grateful for my Alienated getting a runner up :) 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Phobus Posted December 10, 2019 Congratulations in particular to Jimmy, but certainly to all recipients and indeed, the authors! It's a strange one this year for me. I've barely played any of the awardees, but reading through the article was enough to convince me that they were justified in being highlighted and placed on a pedestal for the future. One day, I've got a lot of catching up to do! 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
pcorf Posted December 10, 2019 Eviternity was the best .wad of the year. Absolutely mind blowing stuff. And thanks to Jimmy for all your awesome music and not to mention maps as well. At least SIGIL was in the runner ups. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

seed Posted December 10, 2019 Congrats everyone, good job. I must say, I was slightly surprised by the results, but more-or-less they were predictable. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReaperAA Posted December 10, 2019 Happy birthday to doom and congrats to all the cacoward winners! Although I am surprised that Sigil didn't get the 11th cacoward like "Tech gone bad" did in 2016. On 12/9/2019 at 6:22 AM, Crunchynut44 said: If Sigil doesnt get the first page all to itself I'm going on a hunger strike. Oh no!! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
