4shockblast Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) Another year, another demo pack. This is a collection of 354 demos, totaling 10 hours, 33 minutes, and 40 seconds, for NoisyDiarrhea by @NoisyVelvet and Nanopineapple 2018 by Sophie Kirschner (@meapineapple) (DSDA page). 76 demos made it into the leftovers at 42 minutes and 6 seconds. Competition was held on the UV-Max, UV-Speed, UV Pacifist, NM-Speed, NM100s, UV Tyson, UV -fast, UV -respawn, Nomo, UV Stroller, Nomo100S categories. Notably both max and speed tables are filled as much as seemed feasible to do, with crazy good pacifist/Stroller coverage! Dubzzz even got a D2ALL max in for pnano18! The pack was organized and started by Kraflab. Here's some words from him about why and how the WADs were chosen: Quote Each year, interest in a new demo pack grows on the discord until it reaches its apogee, at which point I'm tasked with picking the next wad that everyone will spend the following months complaining about. While the last pack (mayhem 18) had a lot of suspect maps, the results were quite satisfying. I liked the "double wad" element because you could either focus on one or drift between the two based on your mood, whether you were feeling purple or orange that day. So, when the time came to set up the next pack, I tried to find a pair of wads that at least thematically went together, and where neither was too "big" on its own. The nano wad month challenge seemed like the perfect pool of wads, and some had just popped onto idgames, so I took a look. As per a vote from the discord, I picked wads without playing them enough to know if they had good runs. Rather, I just checked that the maps were reasonably sized. Once again, we have a lot of suspect maps, but a great result. Thanks to everyone that contributed a run, and a special thanks to shock for helping to maintain the spreadsheet & compiling the pack for submission, which is the most arduous part. Runners: @38_ViTa_38, @4shockblast, @Archi, @depr4vity, @Bdubzzz, @Dwaze, @eLim, @elmle, @kraflab, @Looper, @Noobest, @paymentplan, @Tezur0, @TheLoneliness, @Vortale, and @wakecold Thanks to all the runners and Kraflab in particular for organizing the pack! noisypineapple-lmps.zip noisypineapple-left.zip Edited January 5, 2020 by 4shockblast Update demo pack zips 21 Quote Share this post Link to post
meapineapple Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) Whoa, what the heck?? This is great. Where can I go to see what people had to say about Nanopineapple, was there a Discord channel somewhere? I must know what magic caused some of these runners to quit Doom, so that I might be better empowered in the future to reproduce these factors and recreate the same magical experience FYI to runners, especially @Bdubzzz: Nanopineapple was in part a kind of retaliation against people constantly telling me that my maps were too easy, and that is why it is so cruel. I'm not sorry Edited January 4, 2020 by meapineapple 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I must know what magic caused some of these runners to quit Doom, so that I might be better empowered in the future to reproduce these factors and recreate the same magical experience This pack happened in the Hell on Earth speedrun Discord, there's a link to it in the gargantuan Welcome thread pinned to this forum: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/1574591 (https://discord.gg/ghWqUYu). FYI, I updated the zip file above to correct some issues that I noticed when trying to set up the DSDA upload. Namely, the following changes were made: Missed -fasts for couple maps in pnano18 from Dubzzz and couple maxes from Dubzzz and ELMLE Removed slower nomo demo for noisydiarr 12 that was somehow duped from the leftovers pack Fixed Tyson map number on np18 Tyson from Dubzzz Added 15 nomo100 to table for noisydiarr (which was equivalent to the 15s secret exit) Informational comments in the pacifist table for noisydiarr for maps with no monsters While I was at it, I also added a full time table for the pnano18 movie from Dubzzz with individual map and episode times, which I was meaning to do for the original release but didn't because I was in a hurry. :P Edit: updated again, new changelog: Add missing -fasts from Dubzzz for the rest of pnano18 (spreadsheet also updated) One final update hopefully: Move Archi's np29 UV-Max in 0:30 from lmps zip to leftovers Edited January 5, 2020 by 4shockblast 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
SleepyVelvet Posted January 5, 2020 I watched almost all of the NoisyDiarrhea pack. Extraordinary stuff. I was aware of some of the exploits, but I saw a whole lot of clever tricks that I wasn't aware of. One of my favorites was the Map24 vile+rocket window jump bank shot. Some demos got a few laughs out of me, like Map20's pacifist: shooting switches and needing to not hit the cybers dancing around in front of them was funny. Thanks for the demos. They were a great surprise. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
