Doom Pictures Thread 2020

Here's the military base I'm working on for a siege/invasion-style map. The green structure is a medic tent, and the brown building is an armory. The other two brick buildings are placeholders for now, but the idea is to make them into a barracks and a mess hall.

Hm... What makes you think of space when seeing some mountains with the moon in the sky above? That thing looks as earthly as they come (disregarding that perfect angle with the egg-shape of course. ;) )

It feels like it came from Reqiuem, Strain or Reverie, it's just my three guesses.

Me: I know, I'll make the opening area of my mapset start in a secluded overgrown green planty area kinda like Hymn E1M4, because it's prettyful and I like organically-shaped outdoorsy areas and there's other room for such a place in the mapset I want to make and the premise does call for starting unceremoniously in some random area anyway and why not!

 

Hexen: What is "green"?

 

I've been working on this one little area for like a week and hoping I'll get far enough along that the other ideas I have can start connecting to it and I'll suddenly have like 3 maps done in an explosion of activity. Skylining is such a pain though. 😖 At least sprites that clip through the sky ceiling still show up correctly, in vanilla, Chocolate, and GZDoom hardware mode alike. (See tree in first pic.)

Thanks for the kind words! The gothicDM wads were definitely my main inspiration for this map, so you're right about the late 90's early 2000's flair. I'm pretty proud of how this turned out, since I made this in like 6 hours. Maybe I might just do more maps with this theme in the future, maybe I won't. Who knows?

I'm gonna go with GZDoom on the right because it looks "taller", as if factoring in Doom's 1.2 aspect ratio correction factor. (You can turn it off, though.)
