(Testers needed) WIP 7 level WAD - Heller City Rampage

Visually looking pretty solid if you are going for classic style.  I'm getting a lot of Memento Mori vibes from the screens here.

Looks good! Doesn't look too large for it's own good, that usually seems to be biggest problem with city wads. At least the ones i've played

These look great for a first attempt, looking forward to playing :) One little thing I notice from the screens is that a lot of enemies are placed symmetrically (imp, shotgunner, chaingunner and zombieman on both sides), and encounters can be more interesting/challenging if you unbalance the two sides a bit.

I'm interested in trying this out! I wanted to mention that something about the screenshots remind me of early Scythe maps. Its kind of got this very small, but cute architecture which I find attractive.

So i have just finished making level 3, and i have posted the 3-level demo wad for testers in the OP, so if you want to playtest the first 3 levels, go for it.

Alrighty, so I played the WAD and have a few thoughts. First of all, the visuals. They're cute. I love shit like this, however, I will say I was a bit disappointed when most maps teased me with the city aesthetic and then turned into yet another bland techbase. Map03 especially. I hope this WAD has at least one honest-to-god city map with several open buildings and a confusing layout inspired by Peterson himself. Speaking of layouts, they were all extremely linear, not that that's a necessarily bad thing. What was a bad thing was the combat. Most of it followed the rigid structure of open door -> clear room, standing in door way -> wash, rinse repeat. Most of the combat scenarios were just rooms filled with hitscanners that the player is best off sniping from the door. No real effort is made to surprise the player, besides that baron in map02 (which I would swap for a rev). There are no real encounters, you never get lowered into a room, or get put into a situation that would make you uncomfortable as a player. I would recommend introducing more arena-like encounters, or at least some enemy placement that forces the player from the doorway they're definitely clearing the room from.

Okay, so after hours of thinking, i have decided that i'm going to scrap the maps that i have finished and i'm going to redo the wad from scratch, i'm just not happy with the maps i have currently made for this wad, so stay tuned for screenshots of the new and hopefully, better maps.

I hope I didn't push you to do this, the maps are fun, the combat's just a bit stale.

Nah, i just thought about it, and now i got a new idea for this wad, so i want to make the maps a bit more open, improve the combat and make the wad start in city themed maps and not techbases.
