Liquid Ink Posted February 4, 2020 Having us wonder how we got from being transported out of Hayden's hair to being in the Fortress of Doom is exactly what Hugo wants us to do. Get us to play it to find out. I do find it lacklustre over 2016's beginning and feel that having to find the Fortress after wandering about in Hell would be cooler, but I'm not fussy. Also I am loving the Deag Nilox's little compound thing (Hell Barge?). Reminds me of the wooden structures in Thy Flesh Consumed. I have a soft spot for hell wood. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Caffeine Freak Posted February 4, 2020 I see the Slayer has worked on his anger management a little, as he no longer punches those helpful upgrade drones. I also like how the game sets you up to expect the Fortress teleporter to take you directly to a recognizable Earth environment straight away, but it instead takes you to the Fortress, a dungeon-y type of location that could just as easily be in hell. Clever decision, since the panoramic sky reveal it does right after you kill the Hell Priest is more impactful that way. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Heejyhorang Posted February 4, 2020 I was hoping to see the Slayer kill the Titan. Was bummed when he let it walk away. If he hates demons so much wouldn't he want to kill that thing before it goes and murders more people?? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

So I think its effectively passive considering the Hell Priest was killed. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

You'd have to do it in a cutscene, and that would make every boss an underwhelming experience. Much better the player see that thing and begin to wonder when and how they'll kill it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I guess that makes sense. I guess we'll save our titan slaying for when we kill the icon of sin. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sgurk Von Spankraght Posted February 4, 2020 Ok, looks cool. Had hoped to see something else in the beginning than what we already saw in the trailer. Titan looks badass. Tutorials somewhat slows down the experience. Played the game in October and it was awesome. That one had a full tutorial in the beginning before going into the real action. Thought that was a bit better. Ah, maybe you can turn them off... Ready for March, bring it! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

All I'm saying is that it's a clever set-up to prime the player for his transport to Earth, only to immediately subvert that expectation with an environment that could just as easily be in hell. At the very least, it's not the first environment most people would expect to see, especially considering the Vega display pinned the Priest's location as New York. 11 hours ago, Stale Meat said: Funny enough, I noticed all of the upgrade drones seem to have the Vega logo stamped on them. I assume the Slayer is on friendly terms with Vega at this point, and probably has been since the last game (otherwise why would he have backed him up on that removable drive?) Maybe Vega himself deployed the drones for the Slayer to find. Hell, that could even explain the Slayer's less aggressive attitude towards these particular drones. Just a wild guess. EDIT: actually, it seems almost certain to me that Vega deployed the drones specifically for the Slayer. Why else would the packages have his symbol on them? Duh. Urdak5891 Posted February 4, 2020 Wow awesome stuff! I am so curious to see if that voice is indeed the seraphim / wretch / red robed figure, and I have a feeling what happened in between 16 and eternal will be for the dlc. But we'll see, Earth level and that temple on the titan's back look like very cool environments. Game looks polished and good to go. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I meant it could be from a flashback scene of either novik or whoever is talking addressing a / the legion of elite sentinels, not just the slayer. I hope we find out who that is and its not left for the dlc's 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

If you don’t use every tool at your disposable, you die. So it’s important to make the info a lot more clear, because we had people who made it half-way through 2016 without realizing the chainsaw drops ammo. That won’t fly this time around with at least double the amount of things you have to keep track of. Edited February 4, 2020 by oCrapaCreeper 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
whatup876 Posted February 5, 2020 One of the human voices in the intro seemed like that of a priest. I hope the guy in this commercial is finally canon in the Doom universe. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

But they were at the start of the demo in a tutorial level and once that was done, you could dive straight into the action. Liked that better, but that's personal taste of course. :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

whatup876 Posted February 5, 2020 22 minutes ago, Zemini said: Maykr Drones are questionable in the design department. Is it because they look too "alien"? I feel like the sci-fi approach with Heaven would work if this wasn't the only aspect of Doom's Heaven. (specially considering what Hell was like) Even though Doom's Hell wasn't always faithfull and had different versions, it can still be recognized as Hell from some point of view and because of some elements and references. Creativity isn't bad but i feel like for a Heaven to work in Doom, this direction may raise some questions. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zemini Posted February 5, 2020 Not just alien, but robotic alien. Just don't fit into the theme of doom. I am not a fan of the Khan Maykr either. I just think her and the robots should have a more devilish/fallen angle look instead. I do like the design of the other Maykrs though.. namely the three we have seen from the concept art. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted February 5, 2020 Speaking of aliens, at 1:15 in the weapon mod video we see the codex on Urdak, home of the Maykr, and there's that bit about "multiple pan-galactic religions". It's clearly implying that, other than the ongoing demonic invasion, the setting is full-on space opera. For there to call things "multiple pan-galactic religions", you need to have explored nearly the whole galaxy, and encountered many alien civilization, and studied their religions. Which is weird. I don't think this kind of things really fits Doom. It's one thing to have an ancient, extinct civilization on Mars, or to have alternate Earths in parallel dimensions, but going all Master of Orion feels very different from those. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
whatup876 Posted February 5, 2020 Someone would make an arguement about how the Archvile itself looks alien but they work because they still exist between other demons, that are also diverse by designs and other aspects, while Hell was once a salad mix of elements that still tried to look like Hell or some idea of it. I've said this a lot of times, but a Heaven could work in Doom if it paralleled/mirrored Hell in that way; that balance between "yep it's Hell/Heaven/etc" and "but it's also our take in it". The metal stuff just shouldn't be the main focus of it when Hell still had upside down crosses, pentagrams and levels named after stuff from the Divine Comedy or the bible. At least there's the tower of Babel in Eternal. But i guess it could be related to the games' eras where OG Doom came in a time of DnD, heavy metal and a satanism scare and new Doom occasionally treats its setting as a mix of "sci-fi and fantasy elements" while the religious stuff feels more secondary and the art style is something that can be compared to Darksiders and WoW at times. Might be just how we portray Hell and Heaven nowadays but the names "Urdak" and "Maykr" sort of raise questions. 13 minutes ago, Gez said: Speaking of aliens, at 1:15 in the weapon mod video we see the codex on Urdak, home of the Maykr, and there's that bit about "multiple pan-galactic religions". That can be the one part of this "Doom universe" that comes off as "maybe they could try a new series" because at this point, that changes Doom's identity a lot more than the gameplay's direction. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
