thewormofautumn Posted February 11, 2020 I don't think the Archvile has such a health buff. I think the videos just show a timing issue; the BFG hits as he's spawning, when he's probably invulnerable. This video (also Nightmare) shows how the Archvile can be killed with a single BFG shot https://youtu.be/-CeyUE4VC54?t=449 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The mods here are similar, but a lot of weapons seem hellified in some way (burning chain on the SSG, rocket launcher change etc). It would've been nice to have the Gauss again as the sole sci-fi weapon. I think the Ballista should have been a crossbow instead, like the original Rage where you could switch ammo types. Uber weapon should stay as the Gauss. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Tbh, if that is the case I will be very, very happy. Obviously it can't resurrect enemies because of the disappearing corpses, but if it can heal them to full health, along with with a visual indication of that by giving the demons back the bits of flesh they lost in battle, it's a nice way to call back to the classic Retro archvile while still accommodating to the necessary changes of this new engine. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
SaiNth Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) The arch vile actually summons the red glow effected demons and you can see it at 33:30 of the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sPl086iqWA#t=33m30s Some imps spawns in fire and glows in red for the rest of the fight, they also seem to be faster and more aggresive or at least that is my impression. They also seemed to stop glowing when the arch vile is summoned. (Look at the zombie at 33:46 then the AV is killed) Despite of keeping summoning them as the last years instead of resurrecting the demons, the effects really fits the enviroment and its very cool IMO Edited February 11, 2020 by SaiNth 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

In all fairness, we do still have more than a few "sci fi" weapons in the list: - Combat Shotgun - Plasma Gun - Chain Gun - Chainsaw - The sword kind of counts, being more of a tech style handle than the Crucible was. - Does the Praetor Suit cannon count? - BFG 9000 The only "Hellified" weapons then, are the SSG, Rocket Launcher and Ballista. Personally, I'm psyched about the Ballista, as it's reminding me of the Rail Detonator from Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. At least in function. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Now that's some great blind playthrough of the Slayer Gate right there! I'm really looking forward to play on Nightmare myself! :D I do wonder if the Ballista allows for Gauss rifle-style jumping with a recoil like in 2016. The rest are standard weapons in any game or things we can get IRL. The sword is more fantasy than sci fi to me (and yes the suit counts I suppose). i still think the Gauss is more visually appealing to me. I’m willing to give the Ballista a go but to me the Gauss was the perfect weapon in 2016 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
