Triggering actions based on which side of a line is crossed

Is it possible to trigger two different actions based on which side of the same line is crossed?

 

For example... say I have a platform that goes up and down.  I want it to go up when the player goes on it, and then go back down as soon as he steps off.

 

How could I do this with an ACS script, using an if else statement, for instance?
