What is your most hated demon in Doom?

Can't stand Lost Souls and can't believe it took so long for someone else to mention them. Seems like about half of them succumb to one glitch or another and waste (or make me feel like they're wasting) a ton of ammo.

The thing I dislike about lost souls is how they get snagged on items like ammo. I think they infight too easily with each other too.

I wonder if it's possible to swarm the player with Lost Souls. I've seen slaughter arenas with lots of Demons, Imps and other monsters with flesh. But Lost Souls (without Elementals)? No? They cooperate badly?

They infight often.One of the few reedeeming things about them.Then there's also the floating glitch,but i'm not getting into details...

Barons are fine if the map maker gives you a Rocket Launcher or anything more powerful than it, along with a half-decent ammo supply for the gun. Otherwise, they're a slog and are best used to start in fights or just to run away from. Taking them down with the SG or Chaingun is a complete waste of ammo and time.

At least not without ports (20 soul limit).

Arachnotrons is one of these monsters I love as a player and hate as a mapper. So many times I want to place one and realise there isn't enough room for the poor thing to not get stuck.

And one good thing is related to infighting, which Arachnotrons are very useful to kill tough monsters like Barons and revenants since their plasma balls have quite high damage.

Zombiemen, I guess. Because they're so easily disposed of that I wonder why they were included to this day.

I like arachs too (their death sound is awesome), but those things don't make them much more interesting to fight. Assuming the map has enough space to move in or some cover the arachs' constant firing doesn't mean a thing. However if the map is built so that the arach's fire can drive you in a corner where you can't help being hit then it's good (that's why I said they're a borderline case). Still, a projectile aimed straight at you is just a projectile aimed straight at you, no matter how fast it moves or how fast they're shot.


edit: Just imagine if all Patche did was throwing bullets straight at you. That would make her much easier, and that's how majority of Doom monsters function. Yawn. :(

I said Lost Souls without elementals. I meant simply placing lots of Lost Souls in the map to teleport/appear in a large arena to overwhelm the player.

They do work much better at overwhelming the player under -fast mode or nightmare. See E2M5 or E4M5. But how about not -fast?

Lost souls seem to work pretty well in combination with barons and rocket launchers. The RL is needed to quickly dispose of the barons, but have to be careful or a lost soul might get in your LOF and mess up your day...

If a projectile moves fast enough, your reflexes will be tested more to the limits. It's harder to evade a fast imp fireball than a slow one.

For some reason, I feel I shouls make a thread similar to this one, but only it will be about Doom 2, meaning we can mention monster you can't find in The Ultimate Doom. Should I do it, or not?

It's hard to decide between revenants and chaingunners, but at least I can dodge rockets.
