DMPhobos Posted February 25, 2020 I couldn't care for a TV spot or for what type of music they slap into it, but i find the stock 'grunt' sound at 0:07 incredibly funny since it reminds me of goldeneye and how unintentionally funny that game became for me as the years passed 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted February 27, 2020 I think Youtube has bugged out. I was watching a Doom Eternal ad, but somehow the audio got swtched out with a CoD trailer... 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Maybe there's too many posts about it but so far, most reactions come more off as "wow that's kinda cringey, dude" and not someone literally yelling through the computer. At worst, it's a dead horse still being beaten. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted February 27, 2020 Eh. I wouldn't have said the trailer was bad, just sorta bland. And I can understand the difference in music if they're trying to market to a wider audience just before release. Metal is more niche than rap these days. I mean, it could have been worse. They could've used 'X Gon' Give It to Ya'. Actually... I think that might have worked a little better. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
silentzorah Posted February 27, 2020 Awful trailer. Bethesda ought to go back to ruining Fallout, and leave Doom and ID Software alone. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
SladeTheAssassin Posted February 27, 2020 can you all stop????? seriously grow the fuck up. your all getting pissed off over a fucking 30 sec trailer. you must have horrible lives to get mad over a dumb trailer. how mature this communtiy is. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bashe Posted February 27, 2020 Yeah!! Do NOT express your opinion over a very questionable music choice. Your life is HORRIBLE and you're immature otherwise... 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doominator2 Posted February 27, 2020 Ok, who cares? Is a 20 second audio clip plastered over doom gameplay really worth starting a thread complaining about how much you dont like a rap song? I only wish I had time to worry and complain about such trivial nonsense. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

My example was bad. Instead, I would say it's like advertising a serious action movie with a happy fun song in the trailer instead of something serious or dramatic to match the tone. Sure, we understand that the real movie likely won't have that, but the point of a trailer is to sell the tone and theme of the product. You know, like when they say "teaser" trailers. Just a really bad marketing approach if you ask me. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted February 27, 2020 I'll admit if I had overheard this on a TV I would've never known it was for Doom Eternal. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
RichHomieBajiQuan Posted February 27, 2020 I can understand trying to catch someone's eye by casting a bigger net, but the song they used was just trash. At least give me X gon give it to ya or something that fits if you're gonna go that route. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I disagree, Fallout 3's trailer is probably one of my favorite trailers of all time and showcases an extremely depressing and hopeless world while playing an upbeat and happy song. Its the irony and juxtoposition in this trailer that makes it work. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted February 27, 2020 The difference is Fallout 3 actually has that type of music in the game's radio stations, and that style of music is pretty much essential to the game's atmosphere. A Doom game such as Eternal would not have rap in-game (at least I'd hope not) and metal is essential to its atmosphere. You have to match the music with the product or you end up with a bad and unconvincing trailer. Doom and rap simply do not match. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Beginner Posted February 27, 2020 Music in trailer sounds like someone added some mumbling over "orchestral with wfooms" piece for some reason. In my opinion it would've been better off without mumbling. 7 hours ago, SladeTheAssassin said: can you all stop????? seriously grow the fuck up. your all getting pissed off over a fucking 30 sec trailer. you must have horrible lives to get mad over a dumb trailer. how mature this communtiy is. Fuck off. No one needs yours, some random guy's on the Internet, permission to talk negatively about a thing that's related to subject they're passionate about. Even if it's something insignificant in your eyes as music in TV ad. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted February 27, 2020 @Man of Doom At the very worst, the TV spot is a goofed attempt at being hip, hence my initial WTF reaction. Guess I'm probably just out of touch with whatever target audience was specified in the brief. "Disgrace to the Doom franchise"? That's hysterical in more ways than one. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Robo_Cola Posted February 27, 2020 I laughed at how unfitting it was...that's about it. Still can't wait for the game to come out, less than 30 days left. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rare Hatchiama Posted February 28, 2020 Just business. Appeal to the moat young people you can. Use popular music of the decade and the idea is that you'll attract people outside of your typical market, increasing revenue. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

chemo Posted February 28, 2020 TBH in a way I think the song choice is a brilliant marketing move. Not just because it could attract the "hip-hop" crowd, but after all these well-received trailers and previews targeted towards the "hardcore" fanbase, this takes advantage of their negativity bias to boost discussion and the creation of edits; spreading more awareness of the game. Maybe it wasn't the intended reaction, but still. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

E.M. Posted February 28, 2020 I agree that the use of hip hop in the ad was cringe, but as someone said earlier, this is meant to be aired on television. Television is the realm of ultra-normies. Metal scares them, so they had to go with music that was less threatening. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Okay, now that you have not only just failed to differentiate between expressing an opinion and a call to not express an opinion (with a side of shaming), but also transformed "you are retarded" from insult to merely an expression of opinion, I can safely assume that further conversation about this with you would be futile. Have a nice day. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

First, they were cheering that Doom Eternal had the "melting pot" joke and now they are losing their shit because of a music choice that doesn't adhere to their taste. I personally don't like the music choice myself (Bethesda could've chosen a better music), but I kinda understand why they didn't go for heavy metal music for the TV commercial. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted February 28, 2020 (edited) It's not even the choice of genre that got to me. It's just a rubbish track. I've heard that some people have been uploading edits that replace it with metal. I think they're missing the real problem. I don't believe that there is a single genre of music that doesn't have any good works in it. For example, the song below pisses all over the nonsense they used: I think it's fair to say that the Slayer wants to "shut down" Hell. Yeah, I know it's a song that's been around long enough to drink alcohol in the US, and my choosing it could just be a sign that I'm getting old. I'm still not convinced that they couldn't have found a better song within the genre to licence for the purpose. Edited February 28, 2020 by NoXion 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
