Doom Eternal TV Spot Trailer

I couldn't care for a TV spot or for what type of music they slap into it, but i find the stock 'grunt' sound at 0:07 incredibly funny since it reminds me of goldeneye and how unintentionally funny that game became for me as the years passed

Eh. I wouldn't have said the trailer was bad, just sorta bland. And I can understand the difference in music if they're trying to market to a wider audience just before release. Metal is more niche than rap these days.

 

I mean, it could have been worse. They could've used 'X Gon' Give It to Ya'.

My example was bad. Instead, I would say it's like advertising a serious action movie with a happy fun song in the trailer instead of something serious or dramatic to match the tone. I can understand trying to catch someone's eye by casting a bigger net, but the song they used was just trash.  At least give me X gon give it to ya or something that fits if you're gonna go that route.

I disagree, Fallout 3's trailer is probably one of my favorite trailers of all time and showcases an extremely depressing and hopeless world while playing an upbeat and happy song. Its the irony and juxtoposition in this trailer that makes it work.

The difference is Fallout 3 actually has that type of music in the game's radio stations, and that style of music is pretty much essential to the game's atmosphere. A Doom game such as Eternal would not have rap in-game (at least I'd hope not) and metal is essential to its atmosphere. You have to match the music with the product or you end up with a bad and unconvincing trailer. Doom and rap simply do not match.

Music in trailer sounds like someone added some mumbling over "orchestral with wfooms" piece for some reason. In my opinion it would've been better off without mumbling.

@Man of Doom At the very worst, the TV spot is a goofed attempt at being hip, hence my initial WTF reaction. Guess I'm probably just out of touch with whatever target audience was specified in the brief. "Disgrace to the Doom franchise"? That's hysterical in more ways than one.

TBH in a way I think the song choice is a brilliant marketing move. Not just because it could attract the "hip-hop" crowd, but after all these well-received trailers and previews targeted towards the "hardcore" fanbase, this takes advantage of their negativity bias to boost discussion and the creation of edits; spreading more awareness of the game.

 

Maybe it wasn't the intended reaction, but still.

I agree that the use of hip hop in the ad was cringe, but as someone said earlier, this is meant to be aired on television. Television is the realm of ultra-normies. Metal scares them, so they had to go with music that was less threatening.

While I don't consider myself an SJW, people like "The Quartering" (and other such Anti-SJWs) are just cancer for this world. First, they were cheering that Doom Eternal had the "melting pot" joke and now they are losing their shit because of a music choice that doesn't adhere to their taste.

 

I personally don't like the music choice myself (Bethesda could've chosen a better music), but I kinda understand why they didn't go for heavy metal music for the TV commercial.

It's not even the choice of genre that got to me. It's just a rubbish track. I've heard that some people have been uploading edits that replace it with metal. I think they're missing the real problem. I don't believe that there is a single genre of music that doesn't have any good works in it. For example, the song below pisses all over the nonsense they used:

Yeah, I know it's a song that's been around long enough to drink alcohol in the US, and my choosing it could just be a sign that I'm getting old. I'm still not convinced that they couldn't have found a better song within the genre to licence for the purpose.
