My Doom 2 v1.666 and Ultimate Doom CD's I got in December 1995 don't have Doom 95.   But my Final Doom CD does.

The dos ones seem fine to me last I messed with them in dosbox.  I last ran Hexen v1.1 in dosbox.   Some source ports are pretty close to the replicating the dos version such as Odamex, Crispy Doom, Chocolate Doom, or Eternity.   If it plays the demos, then it mimics vanilla well.

probably yes, but you should get a sourceport like gzdoom or prboom+.

doom95 doesn't work well on modern operating systems.

cool, thanks.

also, is there a tutorial for prboom+?

There are versions of the Ultimate Doom that come with Doom95, they always say "For Windows 95" on the box. If it doesn't say "For Windows 95" or "For Macintosh", it's the DOS version. AFAIK Every standalone Doom2 box comes with the DOS version, but don't quote me on that..

The first disc doesn't but the second one does. Not sure about other versions like the DoD boxset, Id Anthology, etc.

sounds like there are multiple different versions. interesting.

i wonder why they did that?

When Doom was first released there was no Windows 95 so that's why some discs have different versions of the game.

The anthology boxset can still be acquired but it's not cheap and sometimes the set is missing items, usually one or more of the four discs it comes with.

Buying physical copies of Doom depends on what you want it for. Are you a collector or do you just want an actual genuine disc of Doom?

The one that's newer must have it and it wasn't ready at Ultimate Doom's release.   My CD looks like neither.   It's full color "The Ultimate Doom", "GT", and "id Software" with the Doom title screen art in monochrome dark gray behind it all.   So it seems there's two older editions without Doom95, and one newer, besides the Anthology one.   The dos version is the same on all of them though.

I have an elusive WinQuake CD which installs and runs just fine on Win 7, which oddly has no mention of Windows anywhere on the case.  It's in a standard jewel case rather than the part cardboard ones.   I hear dosQuake runs at an incorrect speed in dosbox but I haven't tried myself.   I think I hear Quakespasm and Dark Places are good ports.

i guess you can say im a collector for doom since i have every version out there for doom, lol. Doom 3 pc, doom 3 roe, doom(snes), Doom64, Doom 3 original xbox collector's edition, doom slayer collection, doom 3 for the switch, lol. soon doom eternal and i also have two different versions of doom(2005 movie), lol. i also have doom 3 bfg edition for ps3 too. i still have my ps3 account of having doom classic complete.

so yeah i guess hoping to buy one somewhere. idk if amazon has id anthology.

if theres none. i can go for the regular versions of ultimate doom and doom 2.

My Ultimate Doom Cd except replacement jewel case because original was broken.   I don't have the box at home as it's over in my Dad's attic.

I actually haven't tried the Quake source ports yet.   But here's pictures of the WinQuake CD:

That version of Doom 3 for Xbox with the steel case is just incredible. That's something I'm needing to get this year.

The Id Anthology is very expensive, like 400-500 minimum, and it's not exactly common on sites like eBay. I think it's an amazing boxset and well worth it if you're a Doom fan but be prepared to a few hundred for it.

Here is a text list I compiled of official retail releases of the classic DOOM games (pre-DOOM 3).  I obviously don't own all of these, but I do have references photos for many of them from sources like eBay and MobyGames.

i recommended it for sure. its a good edition for the original game if you don't have doom 3 for pc. the levels are quicker, but i believe enemies are harder.  it has content of g4 videos when id software was making doom 1-3. it has all the content. making videos of doom 3 are petty cool to see. it has doom 1 & 2 as well. the game is old to warn you. its still a good game though regardless of age. you can still find them. any retro store or online store would have it. i know amazon has it.  so yeah defiantly get it. you can get doom 3 roe as well for original xbox too. i don't think there is a collectors edition for that one far as i know.  it was doom 3 collectors edition that had g4 videos or it was doom 2005 movie that had them.

But, yeah get it for sure. wolfenstein return to castle tides of war is also good cause once you beat the game you get wolf 3d as a bonus.

i did a little searching on ebay, looks like they have them.

im not sure if anyone has them or not.

i be thinking about it for awhile before i make decision.

im still do some searching on the regular doom cds.
