Recommended Posts

hi there, im new,

i just wanted to ask if there is a possibility to configure chocolate doom so that it starts with a higher render ingame resolution than like the vanilla one.

i know theres crispy doom but i would like to keep it as original as possible but ONLY with higher render resolution, is there a way ?

Chocolate Doom does not support 640x400 as part of its MO, but Crispy Doom can be configured to be more-or-less identical to Chocolate Doom, since all gameplay and engine-changing features are completely optional. In fact, I think most of them are off by default too, so just by running Crispy, you're already really getting vanilla Doom at 640x400.

It's a can of worms, actually. If you double the resolution, you are showing four times as many pixels at once so you are more likely to hit the engine's static limits - which you'll thus have to raise next. Then you are where Crispy started with its 1.0 release.

However, if you want Choco with nothing else but raised resolution today, you'll have to compile it yourself.

Hi @oofmatic, it is not possible to configure Choco this way - in fact this is one of the commonly-rejected feature requests that we often receive. I think your best option is probably to just use Crispy Doom, which is 99% of what you want. Are there specific features in Crispy that you wish you could disable? If there are specifics then I'm sure Fabian would love to hear them. Otherwise you'll have to learn C and make your dream port yourself.

it is possible to mod chocolate doom that way ? would be awesome

  • open crispy doom and turn off all its exclusive features except higher resolution
  • create a shortcut of crispy
  • change its icon to chocolate's
  • rename it to 'Chocolate Doom'
  • never look at crispy options again
